This morning.
First up: Meredith is feeling a little better. She got out of bed and drove Little Z to school yesterday because he really needs his routine and he’s been very, very upset this week. His mom was away and then home sick, and he stayed with his dad, and everything was out of order. And he was worried about his mom.
It wasn’t easy driving him there, but she felt it was important.
She was also calmer yesterday and we even laughed together over the phone. Healing will take time.
Thank you for your prayers. They help a great deal.
She can’t lift anything per doctor’s orders. So she obviously can’t work for a while as a lot of her work involves lifting children and sitting on the floor working with them.
One day at a time.
I finished this puzzle yesterday.
I dropped some things off at the post office and picked up a package (Elaine, I got your package) and then I drove to a local antique shop. I haven’t done that for so long and I just wanted to shake up my daily routine. I don’t know why, but every shop I used to frequent has been disappointing of late. In this case, there’s a lot of mid-century modern and some junk, and some favorite vendors have disappeared. But I did see a couple of booths that I liked. I found a miniature stool that was very inexpensive. I thought the girls might like it.
Zoe looks a little wary, doesn’t she? I think she looks adorable there.
No apple pie yet, but I have been told that one should be on the way. Don went to see the Orthopedist yesterday and the doctor said Don’s thumb was doing much better than he had expected. So no cortisone shot! Don has to continue to exercise the thumb and stretch it. Good news!
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Love the puzzle…good news about your sister…prayers continue…since Covid, I have been wary of shopping and just do not enjoy it. This has surprised my family as when we owned the Hallmark Store, I had a tshirt that said…I shop…therefore I breathe…maybe it is my age…have a great day…
Linda says
Brenda I would love a t shirt like that
I find no enjoyment in shopping
At this age who needs anything more, that is just how I feel
Claudia says
Well, walking into a vast antique market with hardly any people there and wearing a mask isn’t what I’d call shopping. Shopping in a mall? No. But looking at lovely old things? Yes.
Stay safe, Brenda.
Marion Shaw says
I am happy to hear Meredith is feeling a little better.
And I love all your puzzles.
Zoe is adorable on her new stool!
Enjoy apple pie!
Claudia says
Thank you, Marion.
Stay safe.

that progress (for meredith, for don’s thumb, towards an apple pie) sounds great! prayers will continue.
what a beautiful view you have. and another fun puzzle done (hope you have a new one ready to go).
and you found the perfect wooden stool for the girls (i can see bertie jumping up on it, too). sad to hear of some vendors closing, but hope you otherwise enjoyed the outing.
i’ve always liked wandering around antique-ish shops (some more than others, for sure). haven’t done that in a very long time for the obvious reason, but it does sound nice.
we missed out on rain again, but are instead to get a week or more of 75-degree days … not usual for us this time of year. will try to make good use of such mild weather. to that goal, i best get on with things …
hope you, don and everyone have a happy saturday, a wonderful weekend. stay safe!
kathy
Claudia says
I’m not afraid to walk around a large antique store. I’m always masked. I think I might have been the only person there with a mask on.
Stay safe, Kathy.
kathy in iowa says
same. not afraid to wander around an antique store for going to two or three grocery stores each week since covid began. earlier during covid i avoided going into anything but grocery stores and bought books/gifts online or used curbside pickup, but not now … just haven’t had an inclination to go antiquing, i guess (my little place is full!). i also continue to wear a mask in stores. did so at sam’s service, too.
happy, safe saturday!
kathy
Claudia says
I must admit this is the first time I’ve gone to an antique store for a long time.

I missed yesterday’s post, so went back and read it after you mentioned that your sister had been unwell. I join others in hoping she’s soon feeling better.
Congratulations to Don for the improvement in his hand. I hope it continues.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Linda.
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
Glad Meredith is slowly improving. And Don’s thumb is getting better, too. These health issues all take their time to resolve. Oh, my, that little stool with Zoe perched on top is just too cute. Love her dress, striped stockings and sweet shoes, too. She has a certsin fashion flair. Happy you got the package. Enjoy your misty Saturday. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Zoe is a beautiful girl. Her customizer did an exquisite carving and faceup.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Linda says
My heart aches for Meredith.
I hope she will be getting sick pay. Being a single parent can be very stressful financially.
I can’t even imagine the discomfort she felt taking her son to school. Only a Mom would understand.
Hopefully you can visit her.
Claudia says
Thank you, Linda.
Stay safe.

I am happy to hear Meredith is doing better. I can’t imagine what she’s had to go through. You know what they say…laughter is the best medicine.
I don’t really enjoy shopping either…as in food, or clothes shopping. But, I do enjoy a stroll or two through a good charity store, or an antique mall. My personal term for that activity is browsing…lol. I’ve also noticed a lot of MCM furniture and accessories in those places. I do have some of my parents pottery from that era that I enjoy very much…but furniture, not so much.
What a cool puzzle…guess it’s those cars. I tend to swoon over antique cars. Also glad to hear Don’s thumb is better….and that apple pie is on the horizon. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Yes, since my parents had that kind of furniture and it’s what I grew up with, I have no interest in having it in my home.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

Your photo today of your surrounding landscape is so ethereal! I love the fading fall color.
I feel my heart aching for a lot of people. Your lovely sis, Don, the people in Ukraine; and now for Nancy Pelosi’s husband whose skull was cracked in an unprovoked hammer attack at his and his wife’s San Francisco home. I’ve looked at photos online of the Pelosi mansion, from as much as what can be viewed and wondered, without knowing details of course, why there were so many vulnerable glass doors to the home when she’s come under threat so much since Jan 6 (and needs every protection). I lived in an old cottage once which had six of them (exterior all-glass doors/French doors) in different rooms and it always made me feel a bit uneasy, as in a home-invasion scenario, except for the fact that, while everybody else in the neighborhood had been broken into while we lived there, we remained unscathed, I guess because we had four noisy dogs in the house at all times (natural alarms!).
But when I’d visit my cousin in San Francisco (late 1980s), when I was young and thin and well-exercised in my 30s, I’d often walk from where she lived in Russian Hill to indeed the Pacific Heights streets where the Pelosi mansion is located (just a mile walk), so I feel like I can remember very well that tony area of gorgeous homes and how, yes, too many of them have a front-door/entrance and also a garage door very close to the street if not ON the street (acreage is at a premium in that hilly, crowded city of course), and not protected by a gate. (Not like some country house on a large acreage with multiple gates and gatekeepers before you get to the house.)
It’s just awful that our lawmakers and their families have to feel fear for their personal safety, and spend a lot of money (for personal protection) to ensure that safety. Thousands of dollars and only a portion provided to congressional members. Who’s gonna want to be a new senator or a congressperson if you know there’s a chance you could lose your life for just doing a paying job? Might want to find another line of work.
Anyway, I guess because I have fond memories of freely walking the Pacific Heights neighborhood in (my formerly-beloved; always will be loved) San Francisco (people tell me it’s not so great to visit these days; big increase in crime, for one; what a shame); the feeling of familiarity I have from many visits over many years; this Pelosi attack just left me feeling unsettled (and also because I am acquainted with someone who also once fell victim to a hammer-to-the-head attack, so what a horrible coincidence [my friend survived as will Mr. Pelosi, thankfully]).
But today is another day, clear and sunny and pretty in the low 60s at 9:30am in Southern Calif, and I’m gonna clear my head; go enjoy some of it!
Well-dressed Zoe in her autumnal outfit thinks her stool perch might be a little too high off the floor!
Claudia says
It’s a dreadful and depressing time in this country. And the Republicans are already trying to spin the attack into ‘crime in the cities.’ No, it was a attack by a zealot cult member who would have assassinated Nancy Pelosi had she been home.
Stay safe, Vicki.

I am so happy to hear Meredith is feeling better. I hope her routine gets back to normal soon. The puzzle is great and I love that little stool. Enjoy your day. Its cloudy here but that makes it a good day for working on my journal. Hugs!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Linda.
Stay safe.
Petra says
I can relate to Zoe… I would look a bit wary, too, that high above the ground!
Claudia says
Yes, it’s a bit high!
Stay safe, Petra.
Deb in Phoenix says
Happy Meredith is feeling a little better. Bill and I got our vaccines yesterday. We feel pretty okay today except for sore arms. At least one thing checked off of our to do list. We are sitting out on the patio in this gorgeous weather. This is what we wait for all summer. Now we have to work on outside projects. Do you like to cook or bake at all? I do like to bake, but I shouldn’t eat it! I always look at your stove and think about how fun it would be to cook and bake in it.
Antique stores…..I am right there with you. Take care.
Claudia says
I don’t like to cook. Don is the cook. But I do love to bake. I do it very seldom these days as I have stopped using refined sugar. But, Don requested my grandmother’s biscuit recipe sometime this week, so I’ll be baking biscuits.
Stay safe, Deb.

I am so sorry for Meredith’s troubles. It is so hard to be in pain. I am relieved that she is improving. Sending her wishes for a quick and full recovery.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Kay. I’ll pass your message on to Mere.
Stay safe.

That’s good news about Mere. I know this is such a tough time for Mere and for you. Sending love. Cute stool!
