Saturday Snow

February 15, 2025 at 8:27 am by Claudia

Slow going. It’s challenging puzzle, but you all know that I like challenging puzzles. The design at the bottom is the hem of the Geisha’s kimono.

Gosh, this weather forecast is a bit scary. 4 – 6 inches of snow – starting today around noon – and then ice. And this morning we got a high wind warning from the National Weather Service. Our area could get gusts up to 40 mph, and the higher elevations, even worse. Icy trees and high winds are not a good combination. Advice from the NWS: charge our phones and any chargers, as well. Crap.

Don is going to get some salt this morning and a some canned goods.

I’m praying that we don’t lose power, that everyone around here has power. Most of us get our water from wells, and well pumps are powered by electricity, not to mention our oil burners. With temperatures in the 20s, none of us can afford to lose heat. And before you ask, no we don’t have a generator. We can’t afford one.

So, send the Hudson Valley some positive energy, okay? This could be very messy. I’m hoping that we have more snow than predicted, which would mean less ice.

Anyway, that’s all I can think about right now.

Thank goodness we have a gas stove!

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Ice storms can be dangerous. We experienced a bad one in 1976, that lasted for three days. We had to shower at a friend’s house who had power lol. Just getting around was an adventure that I’d just as soon not repeat. So…I’m also hoping you get more snow and no ice. Maybe fill a jug or two with water, just in case though…can’t hurt?

I’m sending all the positive energy I can muster to you and all the residents in the Hudson Valley! Hope you enjoy your day! ;)

My parents went through a terrible ice storm in the seventies and they had no power for a week.

      Thanks so much, Donnamae.

      Stay safe.

You and Don stay safe, too. We’re expecting about 8 inches tonight into tomorrow. Mother Nature apparently isn’t finished with us yet. But spring will come. It always dies. Hope you don’t lose power. Hugs, Elaine

Oh, Claudia, I hope you and Don make it through this with your power intact. Crossing my fingers and toes for you guys.

We had snow all day yesterday and it’s snowing now again. They have no idea how much and we never know when we’re going to get that extra wonderful lake effect stuff. I didn’t want to look ahead in the forecast but Dean had to tell me just now that below zero polar air is coming next week. I’ll say it for the millionth time — February sucks.

    Take care and bundle up,
    Kay

I’d much rather have a lot of snow with no ice.

No apple pie. We don’t have any apples on hand.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Wishing you power during this storm. Love the puzzle. I’m cuddled up under a blanket, reading and checking my emails. I’ll see my Grands on Monday and I can’t wait to check in on them. A slow life right now but that’s ok with me. Hugs!

I love the colors in your puzzle. When I visited Japan years ago I went in several department stores to see the fabrics and accessories used for making kimonos….they were all so beautiful. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping your weather is better than expected. Take care.

Here we are supposed to get a mix of precipitation. We are getting very light snow flurries right now. Tonight it’s supposed to go down to 35° and then steadily rise to 58° tomorrow! I am concerned about the forecast for Sunday and Monday. Tomorrow we could get 1-2” of rain, possibly thunder, as the temperature plummets to 19° Sunday night. The worst part of the forecast is for possible wind gusts of 50-60 mph Sunday AND Monday! They are watching the weather for Thursday with the possibility of a Nor’easter with heavy snow.

I sure hope you keep your power. I can’t imagine trying to stay warm in 20 degree temps with no heat. Snow for us in the South is a holiday, but I can see for many Northerners, it eventually becomes a curse.

Wishing you every safety throughout the next few days. Don’t forget to show us the finished jigsaw!
At work, we order new stock at least three months in advance. I saw an author’s name pop up recently and thought I must tell Claudia that this novel is in the pipeline. I can’t remember who it is now!
I know Anthony Horowitz has a new one in the Magpie/Moonflower Murders series. Anyway, it will come back to me eventually. Sigh, getting old.

    Happy Saturday

Send that energy our way, too — we’re due for similar. I’m charged, but like you, no generator. I was without power last week (when I blew out half the house, including the furnace, stove, fridge and microwave) and fortunately, got someone in right away to replace the breaker. But I’m not ready for another power event!

Hang in there — I hope it’s not as bad as predicted. Here, too.

Ice is not fun. You know the drill. Fill buckets with water etc. A gas stove is very nice to have. At least you will have a bit of heat if the power goes out.

I hope you didn’t lose power.

Ooh, take care of each other. I hope that things do not become as bad as they say. We’ve had cold winter weather, but there is ice under that snow. We always have ice. We have ‘chinooks’ where it’s real cold, and then it’s real warm. But we haven’t really had much for chinooks (a warm wind system). Take it easy, stay warm! We are doing just that. Had tea here with my visiting two sisters and their husbands and one niece. They picked a cold time to travel all the way here, especially my youngest sister from Victoria (Vancouver Island).

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
