Bored, Miss Scout?
This is the view I had as I came down the stairs yesterday.
To be fair, it was a beautiful day out there, with temperatures in the sixties. We haven’t seen that around here since last autumn. All that sun and warmth made me want to get up and do things! Scout felt the same way. So her dad took her on a walk later that afternoon, where she did her little gallop and enjoyed being out in the spring weather.
Don had a gig last night and I took a nice long bath. But somehow Dame Scout, who I thought was sleeping peacefully, found out I was in the bath and came in to tell me she had to go outside and take care of some urgent business. So there I was, getting out of the bath, wrapping a towel around myself, and running to the door to let her out. Afterwards, I slipped back into the tub, added some hot water, grabbed my book and settled into my bubble bath. However, Scout felt she needed to monitor my bath and proceeded to come into the bathroom, check out the little basket of trash, sniff my pajamas, walk over to the tub for a pet, go back out the door – about 20 times.
Oh, that girl. She makes me laugh. Nearly 16½ years old and she’s still full of the devil.
I stopped by the post office yesterday and there was one of those wonderful little cards in my box telling me that I had a package waiting for me. Susie of She Junks, a lovely reader of this blog, sent me a present.
A beautiful egg cup with a rooster, edged in gold on the rim and the base. Marked: Japan. I love it. It’s so petite and pretty! She also included the lovely wooden trinket dish which was made by her husband Ted. Do you believe it? I can’t believe he made this lovely dish!
That’s not all.
A jumping jack for Don’s collection! He’s very happy to have a new member of the jumping jack family, Susie.
Thank you so much, Susie. You made our day here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. I continue to be amazed by the generosity of my readers, who are, indeed, my friends. Thank you.
Happy Friday.

That egg cup is adorable. It looks delicate, and that wooden bowl isn’t too bad, either!
Glad Scout was taking care of you for Don :)
Have a beautiful day!
Hugs,
Deb

She apparently felt it was her duty, Deb!

Aren’t you the lucky girl! ;)

I am, indeed. Very blessed!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Scout sounds like Charlie! He comes back and forth since it is his job to see what I’m doing at all times. Love the gifts, blogging friends are the best! It’s sunny today so I’m going to get outside for a bit!
hugs
Linda

No sun here – I have to say that 9 times out of 10, it’s cloudy or rainy on Good Friday. And we’re getting rain later in the day!

Very lovely gifts! Doris
Claudia says
They are! Thank you, Doris!

Oh, that sweet Scout!! She was taking on the role as your Guardian Angel while Don was away. Such a busy girl! Bet she was happy when you were finally out and back on the couch so she could rest a bit.
What precious gifts. You do, indeed, have wonderful ~ and generous~ blog friends.
Hope you have another day of great temps. We just had 3 in a row, but back into the 40’s today.
Of course that is certainly much better than the 30’s or below, so we will gladly take it!
Claudia says
She is such a stitch, that one. She’s never boring, that’s for sure. It was gorgeous here yesterday but today is cloudy and there’s rain on the horizon. I think we’re getting your lower temps tomorrow. But it ain’t snow or ice or temps in the thirties, so I’m not complaining!

Scout wanted to make sure Mommy was ok! My cat apparently sits on my piano staring at the front door for at least half an hour after I leave. She is happy when she finds out I was just going out for the newspaper, and I return within a minute. Then she trots happily by my side to sit on the chair next to mind as I read the paper at the kitchen breakfast counter. Actually, more often than not, she sits on the newspaper laid out on the counter. I guess she wants to help me with the crossword puzzles…

Such personalities our little ones have!
Susan says
It makes me happy to know that Scout is happy and doing well. I have become quite fond of your sweet girl. Give her a hug from me.
Big Texas Hugs,

I will, Susan!

I feel like I know Scout. You’ve brought her into our lives; she is adorable. Oh, our dogs…what would life be without them; empty, for sure. One time my brother ‘dog-sat’ while we were gone and my dogs loved him. He wasn’t accustomed to being around dogs, although he loved dogs, and said, “I can’t even find a comfortable place to sleep on the bed for all of them wanting to hog my space, and when I sit on the toilet THEY sit on my feet!” Chuckles…
Glad your weather improved, at least for a day. Report from here in SoCal: High winds again, blowing everything around out there, dry-hot-nasty, 86 degrees at 11:30am and I’ve got to go out and brave it with errands; yuck. I wanted to go out to the cemetery today with an armload of callas growing in the yard but it would be pointless now; they’d get too battered in the heat and gusts. Governor Brown just declared new and even stricter water conservation measures this week, after visiting the Sierras and saying he stood on dry grass where there should be five feet of snow pack, so the ‘no-end-in-sight drought’ requires very controlled water use, more than ever. (An example, I usually love March, with rain and coolness. We’ve had NONE of that.) What a lot was heretofore voluntary water restriction will now be mandatory by executive order; every single city and town. They’re going to really clamp down on golf courses, cemeteries, public land-government land…digging up lovely, wide expanses of grass/lawn. People are actually pulling up residential grass and replacing it with stapled-down artificial turf, and creating ‘dry creek beds’ (rocks)…and getting lauded for it. What a way to have to be and live! My husband and I actually wound up, in the past weeks, painting the exterior of our house green, with contrasting green shutters, just to give us a ‘feeling’ of more green with our reduced lawn space. It’s scary to think how bad this is going to get (it’s already bad!) so, despite your lingering cold weather, Claudia, I think you should be VERY glad you and Don are no longer in San Diego. As I’ve said before, I can’t wait to see your photos of your country cottage all a-bloom in the following weeks. I can live vicariously through your photos of spring-green!.
Claudia, as I continue to ‘break down’ (known as ‘striking’ in the biz) Mom’s house so I can make room to ‘live,’ and I can’t keep everything, I come across little things I know other people would treasure and I’m sure I’m going to find something that I know would be a fit for you as Mother had so many small collectibles. A lot I’m keeping, true…and there’s a newer antique store in town whose owner is always interested in what I unearth. But I’m a reader here on your blog, too, who feels like I should do SOMEthing in return for all of the wonderful posts you do…consistently and daily…which are often very informative and educational for me. I’d like to eventually do something in return. So, if I come across some little thing I think you’d like in the future, how do I know where to send, as you say other readers have done? Do I contact you first by your yahoo email or is there a mailing address here on the blog I’ve missed seeing? Even if you decided it would be something you wouldn’t want, I know you have antique stores in the area who would probably buy from you, and that’s okay. I wouldn’t inundate you, and I somewhat know your ‘tastes’ by now. I’m hoping I come across an egg cup!
Claudia says
The drought in California is terrible and I watched Gov. Brown on the news last night. It’s indeed terrible there and I do not envy you. It’s a dire situation, indicative of the major changes in weather striking a lot of the country. But, STILL, there are those who dry climate change. They might as well literally stick their heads in the ground. Preferably, dry, arid ground.
As far as my address, write to me at the yahoo mail address and I’ll pass it along to you. You are very sweet to think of me, Vicki. xo

When I saw the title of your post, Claudia, followed by the photo of Scout, I thought you were going to be telling us about SCOUT’s bath. She looks so fluffy and immaculate! There’s even a halo of light around her in that image, as though she’s freshly shampooed and blown-dry.
Border collies just have to be in charge of everything and everyone, don’t they? It’s their job. She can’t help it. You and Don are her flock, you know. Lucky you.
Claudia says
She definitely herds us. And she’s very dirty right now! She needs a bath but we are waiting until she’s feeling pretty strong because standing in the tub is hard on her.
Susie says
Hi Claudia, I am so glad you liked the gifts. I have looked at that egg cup for a long time and thought it was perfect for you. Since you have such a great collection. I do remember seeing the jumping jacks on your blog. So happy that Don likes it too. Blessings to all…I think I should have sent Scout a biscuit. :):) xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Ah, she’s got plenty of biscuits, Susie! Love to you and thank you again!
Laura says
Love that picture of Scout. The epitome of boredom. She was definitely keeping you company while you were in the bath. xo Laura
Claudia says
She wanted something to happen, Laura. Fortunately, she got a walk and that made her happy.
Janet in Rochester says
How nice of your reader Susie to send both you AND Don presents! The egg cup is beautiful and I’m literally drooling over that wood trinket dish. I LOVE wood pieces of all kinds, especially when the craftsman has joined several different kinds of wood together – there are so many ways to be creative and imaginative with wood grains and colors. I have a couple of cutting boards I keep for serving cheese and fruit. Can’t bring myself to use a knife on them, they’re too beautiful.
PS – Claudia, have you ever tried putting an old towel – or old rubber bath mat – down in the tub when you bathe Scout? Gives the dog a more stable, secure footing than if they stand on the porcelain tub surface only. Tip – in my experience, dogs prefer the towel much more than a mat.
Claudia says
We use a bath mat. It’s not that she feels unstable, it’s that she has bad arthritis in her joints and hips. She tenses and feels insecure and that would happen whether we used a mat or a towel. She used to love baths, but standing that long is hard for her. We try to move through it as quickly as possible, but she has a lot of hair – a very thick coat.

Such a sweetie Miss Scout is! I was thinking of you the other day, Claudia. I’m thinking of starting a dollhouse. :)
Hope you have a lovely Easter.
