I don’t get it.

I like my house. I like my dog corral.

I like to sleep on the loveseat.

I like knowing where everything is.

But what the heck?

Let me tell you what has been happening: A few weeks ago, Dad and Mom put me in the car. There was a lot of other stuff there, too. We drove a long time. Then we stopped and all the stuff in the car was moved to another place. So was I. The floors were slippery and I felt like I might fall. We went to a park.

Then, we spent the night. The next morning, Mom and I left that place. But Dad didn’t.

Huh?

We went back home. Everything was okay for a week or so. Then Mom started making piles of things and she started packing. She tries to pack upstairs so I can’t see her, but I know what’s going on. I mean, really, does she think I’m that dense?

Then she piled all that stuff in the car and we drove again. For a long time.

Then we ended up in a big building with lots of people. Mom says it’s a hotel. And that we’re in a Suite. But let me tell you, the first ‘suite’ we were in bothered me a lot. It was small, and something didn’t seem right. I couldn’t settle down. I had to keep sniffing and checking things out and I DIDN’T LIKE IT IN THERE.

So we moved again. This place is nicer. There’s more room. I can stretch out. And the smells are okay.

But I don’t get why we’re here.

Sometimes Mom leaves for a long time. Then she comes back for a bit. Then she leaves again.

I DON’T LIKE IT.

But I do like this place she takes me to, which is the only reason I’m putting up with being far away from home stuff.

There’s lots of grass and smells and poop and leaves and boy, do I like it! It’s called a park.

Mom usually takes me there a couple of times a day.

Yesterday, we went at lunchtime and there were people everywhere.

I mean, everywhere! And there are lots of people on the streets, too. Some of them stop to pet me. Everyone thinks I’m cute. And they all ask about my limp. (Mom gets tired of having to answer that question all the time. She tells them I have something called Arthritis – Mom spelled that out for me.)

I like people. I stop when they walk toward me. I wait for them to admire me.

Sometimes, they just keep going.

What??

Poop on them.

We go up and down in an elevator. I like that.

Everyone likes me here at the hotel.

They think I’m pretty. And they can’t believe I’m 15½.

Neither can I. I know I look good for my age.

I have to say that I’m liking this change of scene.

I don’t understand it, but I like it.

I miss my Dad.

He misses me, too. He talks to me on some thing that Mom holds up to my ear.

Can I let you in on a secret? I try to con Mom into taking me outside. I act like I have to take care of business, but I really just want to explore the street and the smells and the cars and the people. Sometimes, she’s on to me and she tells me to lay down.

But other times? I win and we go outside.

Ha!

Have to start bugging Mom again. I haven’t been to the park yet this morning. And I have to poop.

  5. The pictures of Scout are so sweet. Glad she’s doing so well. Looks like your girl has got your number Claudia! Glad to report my aunt is finally home from the hospital and we are hopeful she gets her strength back soon. She loves home as much as your Scout. We have been getting lots and lots of rain here in central Florida but it’s still pretty hot even if it’s fall.

  8. Scout, you are so very talented. To use the computer, and make your mom’s post for the day. I like the park. It looks like lots of fun stuff going on, and lots of places to soak in the sun. I never get to go outside, but I find sun in lots of places in the house. You know Scout you’re kind of lucky to get to go for car rides. The only time I get to go in the car is when my mom takes me to a smelly place with a hard shiny table. I am glad you like you home away from home better now. Sometimes. Adventures can be fun.

  9. You are gorgeous Dame Scout…and looking quite remarkable for 15 1/2! So glad you are able to con your mom into more walks…more smells! I know it all seems a bit confusing to you…but a few more weeks…and you’ll be home! ;)

  12. They do love to pull the “cry wolf” trick several times a day about going outside, don’t they? Too funny. They must get bored as do we, and just want a bit of fresh air. Glad your girl has settled down a bit and remains happy with her park walks!!

Well Miss Scout..It’s good to hear from you again..I know this is all a bit confusing for you but it will all work out in the end..then you and Mom and Dad will be back to your sweet little cottage and feeling happy..I am so glad that you get to go to the park everyday..I could never pass you on the street without telling you what a pretty little lady you are..You and Mom take good care of each other and we will talk again sometime..Hugs..

  15. One of my favorite blog posts ever!! Miss Scout has so much to say and lots of it is about poop which is something I am familiar with, having 4 cats. Also, poop is a fact of life and Scout embraces all of life.

    Very happy our weather has been so good for you and Scout. Please tell her that she is loved by many, even those who have never been lucky enough to give her a scratch behind the ears.

  17. Dear Scout, going to a new place can be confusing at first, but it won’t last long. And Claudia is making everything so comfy, soon you’ll feel almost like you’re home at the cottage. Having a change of scene every once in a while can be lots of fun. The important thing is that you two are together, and you’ll be seeing your Dad too. PS – I bet Hartford is a very pretty place in the Fall. If you’re still there at Halloween, you’ll really see some fun things. Hope things get a little quieter though, especially at night. Enjoy your park visits today in this sparkling weather!

  20. What an interesting post that Scout did!! Hey, I watched ‘PS, I love you’ last weekend!! I saw Don, and then watched for his name in the credits at the end. Mailman….Don Sparks!! Tell Don I am impressed, I ‘know’ someone in that movie!!

  22. Dear Scout, all of your wonderful things will be waiting for you when you go home. But, you are making new friends and having many outings and I hope they are keeping you from missing home so much. I know my cat, Keeko, would not be as brave as you. He would put up a terrible fuss if we took him somewhere new. I hope you have a nice nap today and remember that your Mom and Dad love you. I bet they miss you very much when they aren’t with you all the time. Just remember, you are a Dame.
