Serious Stuff Today

October 28, 2022 at 8:29 am by Claudia

The sky over the back forty this morning.

Today, I’m going to update you on my sister, Meredith. Meredith had Pelvic Floor Surgery last Friday. I’m sure many of you who have had children are familiar with this. I believe my mom had some form of this surgery decades ago. Anyway, Mere has had discomfort for a long time and scheduled the surgery for last week. Originally, I was going to go down there and take care of her, but I got work and she found out it would be done on an outpatient basis and that the older boys would be there for the few first days taking care of her, along with two of her good friends so we decided my presence wasn’t necessary. She expected to be feeling better a few days after surgery.

Her good friend Cathy was with her on the day of her surgery and kept me up-to-date via text message. The surgery went well and after she got out of recovery, she expected to go home. She was bleeding a lot after the surgery. But she couldn’t urinate. A catheter was put in. Long story short, she had to spend the night until she was able to urinate the next day. Meanwhile, the nurses at the hospital tried to get hold of her surgeon, but the surgeon’s partner was on call that weekend and the partner never got back to the hospital.

And there’s been nothing but trouble ever since. She has been bleeding quite a bit, which is considered somewhat normal. She came down with a urinary tract infection from the catheter and she was in a lot of pain. She called her surgeon’s office for an antibiotic and they did not call it in for 22 hours. Almost a day. When they did call it in, it was for a drug she is allergic to. If she’d taken it, she would have been in ICU. Finally, her regular doctor called in the correct prescription.

She is very weak and she’s crying a lot. It has been much worse than she anticipated. Thankfully, she has friends who are checking on her and her oldest son was there all day on Monday and he’ll be there all day today. My brother-in-law has been watching Little Z.

She’ll come through all of this, but my god, she has had a shitty year. There’s been one thing after another, along with a soon-to-be-ex-husband who makes things more difficult on a daily basis. And that’s all I’ll say about that.

Anyway, I asked her if she would be okay with me sharing this information. I wouldn’t do it without her permission. As you can imagine, this is a moment when being separated by several states is very hard, indeed.

Please keep her in your prayers, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

I am so very sorry about your sister and I will remember her and you in my daily prayers. Seems it is so hard these days and worry is always with us. We all have our problems but we can still be concerned about others whose situations can be worse. Take care and your daily posts are something I look forward to with my morning coffee. God Bless you and Don and your sister and her family.

Claudia, I am so sorry to hear about this. Meredith has had so much to deal with and she certainly didn’t need more! I am sure you are frantic with worry for your dear sister. I hope she will turn the corner and feel better starting today. She does so much for so many – I hope she gets time so she can pamper herself a bit. Thanks for sharing this info. Wishing you both some peace!

sorry for what meredith has been going through. thanks to you and meredith for letting us know. prayer said for her, you, don and the rest of your family. prayers for healing, comfort and ease in life will continue.

am sure it is quite difficult for you being states away from her. :( glad meredith’s adult sons and friends can help.

hope and praying that don’s hand troubles heal quickly, too.

and that you do something relaxing today.

here? within two days of sam’s suicide in the apartment next door, i got a letter from the irs. i was hoping it was my federal tax refund finally being sent. it was not. it was a notice for me to explain something on my filing. looking things over, i then saw what i didn’t see last april (also a super-stressful time) … a $138 mistake i made. ugh. so i sent them what they requested along with a letter of explanation and hope that resolves the matter. and that they send my refund. and don’t put a red flag by my name for future filings. also, i will be using a professional tax preparer for my 2022 tax filings (with two jobs, three weeks of unemployment, starting a pension and social security) … don’t want to repeat this experience!

okay. best i get going on things around here.

    happy, safe friday to everyone!

    sending hugs to you all,
    kathy

Amazing negligence (to be kind….other words spring to mind) on the part of the surgeon’s practice. Some people are in the wrong profession, to the great danger of innocent patients.

I am so sorry to hear this news about Meredith. It sounds like the doc and his staff are not very competent…and I’m being kind. It sounds like she has a great support system in her sons and friends, and that is to be cherished. I will keep Meredith in my heart, and I’m hoping she has a quick recovery. Hang in their my friend! ;)

So sorry to read about Meredith’s surgery. How can a surgeon not check in on their patients? I don’t understand. Anyway, poor Meredith, she has had the most awful year. Thankfully it sounds like she has a good support network around her. I will be thinking of her and praying for a much better recovery.

I have always admired her, she seems like such a giving and loving person.
It has come back to her because now her friends and sons are there for her.
Maybe you still can visit her because you are not working.

Thank you so much for sharing this information, Claudia, and please pass on to Mere all my best wishes for complete and fast (well, as fast as possible) healing. What a grim ordeal and those docs have a lot of ‘splaining’ to do. I knew she hadn’t been feeling well but that’s pretty heavy duty — beyond not feeling well. I’m glad she is surrounded by her son and friends. Perhaps a visit from you when she’s doing a little better would be far more welcome than now when she has a lot of help.

If I had your address or hers, I’d get a note in the mail to her right away. But since I don’t, please make sure you pass on all my good wishes. I know you must be terribly worried as well, so please take care.

I’m so sorry Meredith is going through this. That type of surgery is not fun. I think covid has affected medical care in many areas….not enough staff. In our local hospital there has been a turnover of staff including doctors….covid burnout.
Will be praying that Meredith recovers well.

I am so sorry this is happening to your sister. I’ve been divorced with young children while going through health issues and believe me, I can empathize. But I came through it all and my life became so much better. I know the same will be true for your sister in the not distant future. Prayers that the really good days come soon for her and she can get on with her life. Without health issues or sh***y husbands.

I am sure she just wants to pull the covers over her head and zone out. I would be miserable. We all would. Given time , she will be back to feeling much better. What a terrible thing to happen to Meredith! It seems like the doctors offices and the hospitals are short on help. Me, going through health issues this year, found that in my case that was true. Some mistakes made that should never have happened. You and Meredith are both in my prayers. Take care.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
