In all the news yesterday, I forgot to mention that this arrived on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon. As always, it will not be read for a while as I like to delay gratification, knowing that there won’t be another one until next year. I have plenty of other books to read in the meantime. I might wait until I’m working in the city, as it would be the perfect book to read while I’m waiting on set. A lot of time (my husband tells me) is spent waiting for shots to be set up.
Thank you for all the wonderful comments yesterday. First, I haven’t heard anything from my sister about Z not feeling well, so that’s good news. Second, your heartfelt congratulations on the film brought a big old smile to my face.
I wrote Jim yesterday morning to thank him for this opportunity and he wrote me the most beautiful letter in return. It made me cry. I know he adores me (he said that in the letter, I’m not bragging!) and I adore him. Working with people who are good at what they do, that you trust implicitly, and that you love and adore is a rare thing and I think Jim has brought a lot of them in for this project.
I’m very blessed.
And, to take the ‘former student’ blessings even further, one of my former students from Boston University days contacted me on FB when I wrote a post asking for possible sublets. She and her family live in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn (I think in a brownstone) and she has a separate apartment in that brownstone that she sometimes rents as an airbnb. She was getting ready to rent it again this fall and she reached out to me. I’m going to chat with her today, but it sounds like the perfect solution. It has a kitchen, a living room, bedroom, etc. I trust her. She trusts me. Park Slope is right on Prospect Park and it’s gorgeous. I can access several subway lines.
I’ll know more tomorrow, but this whole thing seems to be shaping up quite nicely.
I’m also beginning to coach today. Ben and I have a Zoom session this afternoon.
In the meantime, we have yet another heat advisory today – I’m so sick of this humid weather and, believe me, my allergies and sinuses are really complaining!
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

I don’t know anything about NYC. Is the apartment close to where you will work? Does it mean several subway rides or long walks or a ferry? It will be wonderful to see the pictures you take. I always liked it when you went off to other cities and took us with you.
I watch British/Aussi/NZ tv shows almost all the time and whenever a character is supposed to be American I always think of you. Ahhh. that’s what Claudia does…
I hope it is all a grand adventure and you will love it.
Claudia says
Filming will happen all over the city – on locations – and in a studio. So where the apt is doesn’t really matter. I’ll have to travel all over, depending on the location.
Stay safe, Rose!

Love to see things working out. I am so happy for you. Sounds like a good place to live if it works out. Nice to have a network of friends, students and co-workers. Its hot here also but maybe a bit of Fall in the air? Probably just wishful thinking. Hugs!
Claudia says
It’s definitely too hot to be fall-like here! But soon…
Thanks, Linda
Stay safe.

Wow! Sounds like this job is coming together quite well! Will you stay there the whole 6 weeks or visit home during the job? Or maybe Don will pop into the city to visit you?
Hope it continues to go smoothly for you! Stay safe!
Claudia says
I will probably come home for a weekend or two. And Don will definitely visit me.
Thanks so much, Ellen.
Stay safe.

It does seem to be shaping up nicely. Since your former student contacted you it sounds like a done deal. It’s good to deal with someone you are comfortable with and trust.
I hope Little Z stays well. It must be difficult for him to have to adjust to a different school assistant while his is sick. I assume the school is providing him with someone. It’s so important for them to develop a good consistant relationship. I hope his assistant feels better and is able to come back soon.
Stay safe
Claudia says
So do I. But he’d just started school a few weeks ago and this year’s assistant was new to him. It will all get back on track.
Thanks, Marilyn.
Stay safe.

I have to admit I brought the Louise Penny book based on your love of her books and I have already started it. I can see why you like her as an author! But this one hits a little close to home. I may have to delay reading it and gobble up some sci fi first.
I can see Jim Parsons adoring you—don’t we all 😏. Nice to see the pieces falling into place!
Claudia says
You should read her books in order Becky, starting with Still Life. There’s an ongoing line of character development that you shouldn’t miss. You can read it as a stand alone, but much better to track the overall story line in order.
Thanks, my friend.
Stay safe.
Becky says
You got me started on Ian Rankin at book #23. We read backwards for a while and then we gave up and started reading them in order. We bought them all! So now you’re recommending another prolific writer who has a zillion books—I’m going to have to space these authors out!
Claudia says
Sorry! But I’m happy to be a book enabler!

So exciting! Prospect Park – neat!
I’m running out of superlatives ;-))
My sense memory of the subway is kicking in. Love that awful damp diesel odor. Continuing to be thrilled for you.
I looked up the L Penny book and read that she has set it during the pandemic. Interesting. Having heard several Stephen King interviews recenyly, he said he found it difficult to set his story during Covid so Billy Summers is set in 2019. It will be interesting to see how she copes with it.
Continue very well. XOXO
Claudia says
I’ll be on the subway a lot, Martha!
Thanks so much.

Well, I’ve needed to catch up.
Since the weekend, every time I come onto this page I’m hit with big, scary virus-protection warnings to stay away from you. The good news is, these warnings have stopped. Don’t know what was up with all that; we have the same virus thing we pay for as always; nothing has changed. It IS very sensitive, but we want it to be. My husband said, as I voiced my despair: “Vicki, you’ve got to back off from Claudia’s site for awhile.” WHHAAAAA (hear me wail). Maybe it was us and not you; WHATEVER, just glad it’s over; glad to be back and read you! I need my daily dose of Claudia and MHC.
My prayers for precious, darling Little Z. Your sister and brother-in-law; it’s just too much, with their other son stricken at age 24, too.
But, Claudia, this is FANTASTIC news about you getting work, and marvelous work, like the gold pot where the rainbow ends. This seems to have dropped out of nowhere and I am SO happy for you. This will be quite an adventure and I know you’ll share with us! Congrats! It’s money, honey! But so much more than that as you put your creative juices to work after too long! Yippee!!!!
Claudia says
It’s not me. My site has no viruses. It’s checked for them daily. Maybe the ads were triggering something? But it’s not the site.
Thanks so much, Vicki.
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Good to know. Makes sense, the ads. At least it was temporary. I didn’t want to have to start being your pen pal on email (ha).
Claudia says
I’ve never had anyone say (in almost 14 years of blogging) that they had a warning that my site had a virus. It just doesn’t happen. We have apple computers and they rarely, if ever, get viruses. And I’ve found that virus software is way too sensitive. It misreads a lot.
Vicki says
I should’ve thought twice and just not mentioned it here, or else taken the time to look at other commenters to see if somebody else was saying anything similar (was just so surprising, caught me off guard, because it doesn’t happen often that I get multiple virus messages like I was getting, blocking ‘a suspicious connection’; but from what I’m hearing from you, it seems my software was apparently/totally flipping out, so I’ll alert my husband; it seems we need to revise or edit what the software needs to be doing or not doing; maybe the service did some kind of recent upgrade that is indeed making it too sensitive so that it’s misreading, as you say); sorry for any annoyance or offense caused due to my ignorance, Claudia. I didn’t mean to put you in the position of having to defend anything; I could’ve just emailed you on it if I’d had a question/concern (I usually have better diplomacy; I just didn’t think how my comment might land; again, I regret my impulsivity; I was reading you on the run and was too rushed). It’s clearly a problem on my end that we’ll look into. Obviously, of course, from what you’re saying, anyone who visits your blog is safe because you have the knowledge and experience to ensure your site can’t be compromised (you’re not some internet newbie out there; you’ve been doing this for a long time, you’ve had a few sites and also for business/career; you’re an intelligent person about these matters!). Thanks for explaining so that I can get more educated about stuff I don’t understand. I have very little knowledge about computers; I’m a dinosaur.

You’re living under a pink cloud right now — new job, place to live AND Louise! She’ll be a wonderful companion — but probably not for long. I suspect once you start, you’ll finish in a heartbeat!
I got my booster shot today. Walgreens was handing them out. I should probably be in the second tier, according to my doc, and I told the pharmacist that but she said “Get it now.” It had been six months, not eight and they said that was fine; that while I wasn’t a transplant person, I had enough medical issues that it wasn’t a problem and they were just relieved people were getting shots. I have a wedding in mid-October in Ohio and will feel a bit more relieved to be boosted.
Claudia says
Glad you got your shot, Jeanie. I can’t wait until I can get mine but that won’t be until the end of November.
Thanks so much!
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Yes, I was just at my doctor’s office yesterday and she said not for me, even with my seven co-morbidities, til November. But, then, yesterday afterward, was when they said we could all get one at six months, so … now what. She also told me she might be able to give the 3rd shot to patients right there in her medical office, which would be nice. Also, she isn’t worried about mixing in the seasonal flu shot, when I asked her about this two weeks ‘distance’ between the two types of vaccines. I just don’t know what to think. I guess I’ll just punt for now. I have a cousin in Texas whose friend walked into a pharmacy and got a third shot with no questions asked; they didn’t look at his vaccine card or anything.

I grew up in Park Slope and lived there until I was 26. I have fond memories of spending Saturdays in the park fishing, boating, hiking and visiting the zoo. The area has grown-with lots of independent small shops & cafes. Congratulations on your new job- it sounds wonderful & very exciting!
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Liz! I’ve stayed and worked near the Barclay Center before but not Park Slope. Looking forward to it.
Stay safe.
