Shells, Rocks and Some Thoughts

June 21, 2010 at 1:02 pm by Claudia

From my trip to the beach last week: 2 more heart-shaped rocks and a lot of shells. I especially love these two. The shell at the bottom of the photo is embedded in another shell and that is another little shell to its left. The sea glass in the top right hand corner has something in it. I wonder what that is? It looks a bit like chicken wire!

:: I’ve been visiting all the wonderful studio spaces showcased in Where Bloggers Create. There are over 450 of them this year! At first, I randomly visited some – then I started from the top alphabetically. I’m now on F. I have a feeling this will take a while! I am so impressed with the creative uses of space. And creativity knows no boundaries, I’ve found; artists grab whatever space they can from a tiny closet to a big room to the outdoors.

:: My favorite movie was on TCM last night in honor of Father’s Day: To Kill a Mockingbird, with perhaps the best fictional Dad ever. It was nicely scheduled between my afternoon rehearsal and the evening performance. Thank you TCM! I think I know every inch of that movie by now. Do you remember the gorgeous soundtrack? When I saw Gregory Peck do his one-man show (a gift from my husband) a montage of his film roles was used as the introduction before Mr. Peck came out on stage. They saved To Kill a Mockingbird for the end of the sequence and when I heard the theme music, I started crying and couldn’t stop. We all rose to our feet as Gregory Peck came onstage and I was bawling like a baby. I’m sure the people on either side of me thought I was a bit nuts. I can’t help it, I’m sentimental that way.

:: I have to share something that happened from the Where Bloggers Create event. As part of my post, I showed a photo of some framed items on my wall. One of them was 4 photos of my brother and I visiting Santa at a local store named Muirhead’s when we were little. Celeste of Celestina Marie Designs left a comment saying she recognized those photos – she had some, too and she immediately identified them as from Muirhead’s. Some emails followed. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, as I did. She told me what elementary, junior high and high school she went to. I went to the exact same schools. Turns out she grew up a few blocks away from me and she was only 2 years behind me in school! We played on the same playgrounds, spent hours in the same bookmobile…what are the odds? She lives in Texas now and I live in New York – and we connected through this blogging world. That was truly amazing!

Have a great day.

    Hi Claudia,
I am still excited that we met through the WBC party and then to find out we are from the same city in childhood. Yes, what are the odds.
There is something very special about connecting with someone that played at the same parks, went to the same schools and swam at the same neighborhood pool. And, had Santa and the toy department of Muirheads in common. LOL Blogland forever blesses with unique frienships. Although we did not meet growing up and in different grades, we know each other now~ and I am thrilled.

What a wonderful story of the play and Gregory Peck. One of those special memories for sure. The movie is also one of my favorites. How fitting you watched again on Father’s Day.

Love your post and I too will do something later in the week and link back to you.

Have a great day my new friend!
    Hugs, Celestina Marie

It is truly a SMALL world!! Years ago we were on a cruise and we started chatting with this couple at the pool. As we’re chatting, I told Darlene I worked in Palo Alto. So did she. I work on Hamilton. So does she. The Wells Fargo building. SO DOES SHE!! She worked on the 1st floor and me on the 3rd!!

Wonder how many times we ran into each other going in and out of the building . . .

How wonderful that you met someone that is “linked” to you!!

    xxoo

Same Bookmobile?? Stop. The world certainly is a small place sometimes. And thanks for reminding me about the Bookmobile. LOVED that!

I can certainly understand crying over Gregory Peck. I burst into tears when real, live Rockette walked out during our RCMH tour! :)

That is so neat, Claudia! It really is as if the world is made smaller by the click of a keyboard. :-)

I had something interesting happen on Pink Saturday. Someone came to my blog and recognized Becky from a photo I had posted. Turns out they had been friends years ago! Saturday must have been one of those special days for people to connect through photos!

I love blogging. As a matter of fact, I prefer blogging to Facebook which I don’t do. I guess I don’t “get” Facebook. Blogging, I do.

I am going to go eat a late lunch. I had a crazy day yesterday fighting with a chair I was trying to put together for Rhondi’s porch party. Turns out, I was doing it backwards! LOL! I thought these chairs would be easier because they are slings and can be moved in during inclement weather as opposed to the heavy things that were there. But now, I’m questioning my sanity. I’m just so not technical! ;-)

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Interesting pieces Claudia, finding these things is one of the great joys of the beach I think – I hate to go in the water but I love to be near the ocean and to see what I can find that the sea has spat out.

I’m so depressed and jealous after looking at just 3 of those WBC posts – including yours ;) – that I’m not looking at any more!!

I read TKAMB every few years (just like I do with the Little House books), but I think I’ve only seen the movie once- time to update my Netflix. Thanks for the reminder.

    Hi Claudia,
Love your little bits of shell and rock from the sea. Isn’t it funny how things so simple can make us feel so happy?

I’m working on the blogger list too. Might take awhile but I am enjoying it very much.

It’s great that you connected with someone from our neighborhood, wow!

    I love Gregory Peck too.

You got it… Scout is one of my all time favorite movie characters. Right up there with Anne of Green Gables, of course.

All of your beach finds are keepers. They need a special place out in your garden when you get home. Did you know I bring home a rock from each trip and have quite the collection in my garden.

Claudia, I love your treasures from the sea. I have several myself from the Pacific NW & Hawaii to the Dominican Republic. They bring the calm of the sea into our homes, don’t they? I too am a fan of Gregory Peck and many more during that era. How exciting to meet up with someone from your hometown through blogging! It truly is a small world and blogging makes us closer even though we are miles apart!

A sweet hello from Frog Hollow Farm! Atticus Finch, what a terrific character! I will never tire of watching that movie. I love everything about it. And Calpurnia – I love that name – who knew it is the name of one of Caesar’s wives? I loved your post – it wove right into your collection and appreciation of days gone-by. Seashells from maybe eons ago, Gregory Peck (maybe not eons, but from a long time ago) – my new favorite movie with Gregory Peck is Roman Holiday – loved it when he stuck his hand in the mouth of that Roman fountain – so scary and so funny! Even though he was a serious dramatic actor, I think that Gregory Peck had a wonderful comedic side somewhere in there, don’t you? Ciao, bella!

I love your collection of stones and shells, especially the cute one with the shell embedded. Truly a small world isn’t it? How wonderful that you and Celeste connected through the photo on your blog. I adore hearing this kind of story. My cousin, whom I hadn’t seen since she was 11 and I was 9, found me through a digital scrapbook page I posted on line having to do with my childhood. It turns out, she lives only an hour from me!! ♥

You know, I don’t think they do teaching typing as a class anymore, but as part of computer class…now called keyboard. Sure like your heart shaped rocks….guess you noticed the one painted as the flag. I’m going to posting about Flags through the 4th of July.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
