Sinkhole

June 27, 2010 at 2:41 pm by Claudia

Earthquakes…yes, we’ve had 5 since I’ve been here. But this morning I woke up at 7:00 and couldn’t get any water to flow from the taps. I looked outside and saw this:

Water gushing out of a sinkhole – right on our corner. Since this corner is at the top of a hill – there was water everywhere.

The area was cordoned off – for a long time no one could get to their cars, until the police finally let them move out, one at a time.

As we stood there we watched the sinkhole get bigger.

Big machines have moved in and are moving the broken chunks of pavement out.

No one can take a shower. I need my coffee so the very first thing I did was pull on some clothing and walk several blocks to the 7 – 11 to buy some bottled water. I’ve had coffee, I’ve brushed my teeth. That’s about all I can do at the moment.

I would like to go home now, please.

I don’t think you could pay me enough to live in California.. except perhaps the Templeton area where my sister lives. I know you will be more than happy to get back home.

Claudia, That is really scary! Thank goodness the sink hole was not closer to your apartment!

I have never been over there when there was an earthquake and I never want to be.

Not much longer now. I’ll bet you are down to counting hours and minutes after this incident!

    How soon can you leave?

Oh, Claudia! I hope and pray that you are safe! Saying a prayer right now for you.

I want you home in your Mocking Bird Hill Cottage, safe and sound with your hubby and babies. Thank the Lord that the sink hole was in the street and not somewhere else. It seems that they often open in one area and not in several… or that’s what it looks like on the news when they show them.

I’m thinking of you and wishing they would let you go HOME…

    XO,

    Sheila

Oh Claudia, I’ll be so happy for you when you are home at MHC with your sweeties.

Despite the earthquakes (which are mild to non-existant in my part of CA)I really love California. I’d take an earthquake over a tornado anyday! I know, I sound like a typical Californian– but it’s true!

Okay, enough of my “I love California” speach. How many days ’til you get on that plane? I know you’re counting!

    Hugs,
    Jill

Wow! You are going to feel so uplifted and grateful by the time you get home!! When I saw the picture without reading first, I thought you finally had the big one right there where you live! Thank God it was just a sink hole. Poor baby….you need the comforts of home soon! Hang in there…you are a very patient lady….keep telling yourself that!

Oh, my! That is not only frightening, but frustrating. I do hope the rest of your day has been uneventful, and maybe even filled with a wonderful treat to make up for the difficult morn.
California has many good things, but you also have to endure so many quirks of Mother Nature.

Our water main (under the lake nearby?!) broke a couple of weeks ago. At least the water dept. called to let us know, so we could fill tubs with water, etc. Puts a new light on ‘you don’t miss your water til your well runs dry’!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
