Slow going this morning. I slept in. Glory Hallelujah!
The past two days have been rather busy with commuting back and forth to the city. The sheer length of the round trip commute tends to tire me out. I had very good coaching sessions yesterday with some of the actors. I still have to have sessions with 4 of them, but the stage manager tells me that will be next week, which is just fine with me. Such a lovely group of actors. Christa, the director, is also lovely (I’ve worked with her on three shows now). She’s also an actress. Anyway, I’ve found that nice, good-hearted directors tend to attract actors who have the same qualities.
And in “theater is a small world” news, in addition to the actors I mentioned the other day that I worked with 20 or more years ago, I had a feeling that I knew another one of the other actors somehow. When it came time to work with him yesterday, I immediately said “I think I know you from somewhere.” He responded “I’ve been thinking the same thing.” After establishing that he hadn’t worked in Hartford, I brought up the Old Globe. Sure enough, he’d done 3 shows there and the first one he mentioned was the one I had coached about 19 or 20 years ago. That’s one of the things I love about theater. I invariably run in to actors I’ve worked with before – in this case, more than 20 years later!
My favorite ornament. I found this little bluebird ornament a few years back. Isn’t it sweet?
Today is a day to tend to things around the house. Whenever I’m in the city for more than one day in a row, I feel like I’ve lost control of the house! Although, I did give Don some chores to do yesterday and, bless him, he did them all while I was gone and made a fabulous dinner as well. And he found a grocery store that had Mallomars in stock and bought me three boxes.
He’s a pretty neat guy, my husband.
Stella in the early morning light. I added a few more Christmas trees and I think she’s happy.
Happy Saturday.

Good to hear you slept in this morning. Travel is tiring for sure. I love seeing your vintage ornaments and the little blue bird one is so sweet. I have a really pretty pink shiny brite and Scout grabbed it yesterday and I almost said don’t…but she was gentle. So pretty Grammy! She loves all my girly pink ornaments but also the red trucks and Santa’s! Such a sweet girl. Stella looks very happy with her little forest of trees!
Claudia says
Sweet Scout. She understands the she has to be gentle with ornaments!

Canada has a small theater world too. My daughter works in stage management and wherever she is in Canada, she re-meets actors and directors. The ones she hasn’t met before inevitably know a lot of the same people she knows.
I don’t know what Mallomars are. Are they some kind of eating goodness?
Claudia says
Chocolate and marshmallow cookies that are only shipped and in stock in the winter. The company won’t ship them any other time because they don’t want them melting. They are scrumptious.
Wendy T says
That’s funny about shipping! There’s a pen store in Toronto run by a young couple (how they manage to do the things they do and raise two small children, I’ll never know!) who won’t ship bottled ink in the winter because it might freeze the ink.
Claudia says
I sort of love that.
Brenda King says
I’m going to keep my eye out for them.

Love your gushy window, Tammy!

We don’t get Malomars in Wisconsin…at least I’ve never seen them. After I wrote that…I looked it up. Evidently, I was wrong…Walmart has them in stock. Maybe I’ll go get me a box…lol!
I like Stella’s trees…very festive. Nice sunny day here…time to get my Christmas cards sent out! ;)
Claudia says
Mallomars are only shipped to states with real cold winters, Donnamae, and Wisconsin has that for sure!
Wendy T says
Claudia, I’m wondering if we have Mallomars in Northern California? I’m going to look around for them. I love Stella! My girlfriend rescued her vintage stove from her parents’ house and now uses it in her house. But she’s missing the salt and pepper shakers… :(
I’m glad you reunite with theater people as you and they move around from job to job, even years later. It shows a commitment to theater, and as difficult as “show biz” can seem to us lay people, that theater jobs continue to be created.
Claudia says
I think it’s too warm in California. I never saw them when I was there. I think they only ship to regions that have a real cold winter.

Thought this one was named NYC diner but was Times Square Diner and Grill!! Of course when we went to NYC each fall for son to do marathons, we ate many places but this year in February I just enjoyed this little place! The girls and I loved Ellen’s because of the singers-i am the vegetarian so the salad places are treats! Love your blog!!!
Claudia says
I was just walking by that diner. We also love Westway Diner on 9th Street.

I love your Christmas balls. We have some that like those. Glad you got to rest a little. Mallomars are one of my favorite things.

They are so delicious, aren’t they?

Hi Claudia,
I’m watching Frasier re-runs and was sure I saw Don, but couldn’t find him in the credits, so I did a search for the episode & there he was, but not credited. I recognized him from the photos you posted of when you first met.
I’m wondering if, in your theatre work, you ever worked with Greg Jbara, a friend of ours.
Happy holidays.
Claudia says
Yes, Don did a couple of Frasiers. He has known Kelsey Grammar for a long time. They did a play together way back when. Kelsey used to use a lot of stage actors on Frasier because he admired them and, of course, that’s how he started out his career – onstage.
I know the name, but I’ve never worked with him, Cara.
Cara in S. FL says
Oh well. I knew he’d had accents in at least 2 of his NY roles, and thought maybe.
