So far today, I have:
:: discovered this bird’s nest right outside the door to the balcony
It’s really a work of art. A closer look:
I suspect it is from last year, as I’ve seen no activity there. Just to make sure, I got up on the dining room chair and peered in. A perfect little nest with no eggs. Of course, I do have a smidgen of hope that the birds have it all ready to go and will soon be laying eggs. If it’s still there and hasn’t been used by the time I leave, do you think I can take it home as a souvenir? I just may do it. You know how much I love bird’s nests.
:: drove into town to buy some more groceries. I now have the route to town and to the theater all figured out.
:: looked everywhere for a metal steamer insert. I eat a lot of vegetables. I’m a vegetarian. I ended up paying $10.00 for one at the local hardware. A small town mark-up, wouldn’t you say? Yikes. I actually felt ashamed that I paid that much. But to get anything cheaper, I would have to drive to Madison and with the cost of gas, I would lose the amount of money saved on the amount of gasoline used.
:: tried to rescue a dog. Wherever I go, this happens to me. I was talking to Meredith on the phone and saw a Brittany Spaniel puppy running around on the golf course. Collar but no leash. Off I went to see if the puppy needed rescuing. But then I saw the owner walking across the green, exasperated expression on his face. Good thing, because this little guy wasn’t going to come to me. “Beauregard” was the cutest darn puppy, full of the dickens, but so cute. Once I knew the owner was on the case, I left.
:: bought this copy of Midwest Living because…(take a guess):
No, it’s not because of the Twisted Chicken (see note about vegetarianism above.) You get a star if you guessed the pottery in that perfect shade of aqua.
Of course, I am from the Midwest – a Michigan girl – so a magazine about the Midwest makes perfect sense.
:: said many thank yous to my husband for suggesting I bring the small Bose speakers we use for his computer with me. Before I left, I took an afternoon and downloaded lots of my favorite pieces from our CD collection to iTunes. Having my music to keep me company makes me happy.
:: started to play around on Pinterest. Sort of fun!
Tomorrow we begin rehearsals.

Claudia!
Had my house power-washed the other day and the guy covered all the nests that are under construction with garbage bags to keep from soaking them!
The bittersweet that grows on the house makes great hiding places for those Robins Nests.
Your right…they are amazing…How DO they DO that!

Take care – Mary

Your bird nest is a cheery welcoming sight. I hope you enjoy your stay in Wisconsin. Growing up just north of Chicago, Wisconsin was the spot where my family often vacationed in the summer. I have very treasured memories of the state. Enjoy your time there and keep us posted!
Lots of love,
Susan and Bentley

Hey Girlfriend,
What a beautiful nest! I hope it’s abandoned for you, so you can be crafty. Karen Valentine of “Desert Cottage” used a real nest in the shadowbox she created when she came to the luncheon….really cool.
Most of my family is from (some still there) Wisconsin, especially Madison. I’ve never been there, but hope to travel there someday. My husband is from Racine.
Big Hugs,
Meri

What is it about a nest that makes us so happy? Maybe it’s the idea of a family, the tiny “peeps” we hear in the Spring! I love listening to the tiny birds outside my bedroom window. They have a nest hidden in the Ivy climbing up my garage wall.

What a treat for a “nester” to find a birds nest. The perfect welcome! Hoping you’re so busy and appreciated, you won’t have time to be homesick.

So you’ll ripping out the 30 must-try Midwest foods section and mailing it back to Don I guess, wouldn’t hurt him to get some ‘test kitchen’ practice in before you get back home ;)
When I saw that jug on the cover I thought for a moment it was yours!

PS – I’m STILL waiting for the Pinterest folks to get back to me – looks like they’re getting inundated – but in the meantime it’s fun to look at other people’s so I’ll have to check yours out :)

Hi Claudia- I am playing catch up :) The condo you are staying in looks very nice- nice views at least. I think dogs are drawn to you- they know a good soul when they see one :) I am glad the owner was so close behind. It sounds like me when we first got out pomeranian- he got off the leash and away from me and wasn’t trained to “come” yet- what a fast little bugger he was! I’m so thankful I was able to get him to come to me, I never would have been able to catch him. The bird’s nest is incredible. Last year I was lucky enough to watch an oriole make her nest- it looked as if she was sewing with grass- I was so amazed! I hope you are doing well- sending you lots of hugs!!!!
