Socks, Puzzles, and Miniatures

September 16, 2022 at 8:48 am by Claudia

Warning: If you’re offended by cuss words, I’m giving you a heads up. (I’m not, and I have a salty tongue that is in use regularly, just not on the blog.)

As you know, I was very down yesterday and I felt that way all day long. I feel much better today. I got a good night’s sleep, it’s a beautiful and cool fall morning and my back is a wee bit better. Don was out running errands. When he returned he came into the den with a gift bag.

In it was a card with a lovely note from him, a Cavallini jigsaw puzzle (theme: houseplants,) and a pair of socks that made me laugh out loud.

I’m in love.

It’s as if they were made for me – and every other avid reader in the world.

It was just what I needed, that belly laugh.

I was supposed to coach today, but the stage manager asked if I could do it next Wednesday instead. So I get a bit of a breather and that means I can rest my back. I find that when I’m sitting in my chair while zoom coaching, I often sit forward in the chair and my back tenses up. I’m not even aware of it until I start to feel pain.

Today? Reading. Maybe with my new socks on. Dressing a couple of dolls. Crocheting a hat.

I managed to wash the sheets yesterday but I needed Don’s help putting them on the bed. After a few skirmishes, we successfully completed our task and we had fresh bedding last night.

It’s the little things.

We’re entering the season where a new Michael Connelly and a new Louise Penny are published. I can’t wait. I need to buckle down, let go of all of the things that take my attention away, and read. Don’t get me wrong, I am reading, but I’m not reading in big chunks and that isn’t satisfying. Today, I hope to do that.

And I’m eyeing the next doll house project. Speaking of miniatures, the IGMA show is in a week. It’s just outside of Hartford. I’m wondering if I will go or not. I’d like to. I was reading the program this morning and I was so saddened to read that Barbara Vajnar passed away in July. I’ve mentioned her several times on this blog because I have a few pieces of her furniture. She retired a couple of years ago.

She made this:

And this:

Her work was exquisite. When she announced her retirement, she put her pieces up for sale on eBay, a few at a time. Most of them went for far more than I could afford, but I did manage to snag this corner cupboard. It will go in the Beacon Hill.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Barbara and her husband as I dithered about buying the mustard colored cupboard. They were endlessly patient and kind.

Rest in Peace, Barbara.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

I have a “salty” vocabulary too! I use it when I am alone..I have found it relieves a lot of angst. I adore the socks, I would wear them in public.

Today, I get the new covid booster and a the flu shot , one in each arm. I having second thoughts..about both at the same time. I hate second thoughts.

I am glad you get a few mores days to rest your back.

I think I will get the shots separately.

I will vaccinate always For Covid
I just finished five weeks of side effects from second booster just like after first booster
I am Not doing flu shot
Too many bad reactions to vaccines
The past five weeks have been something else
I don’t want the virus. My family has seen what this does to me. I won’t go into detail as I do believe in the boosters no matter what

Those are some great socks! Hope your back continues to improve.

Your dollhouses have inspired me. My mother gifted my daughter with a kit decades ago when I/we had little time to take it on. Planning to get started on it this winter.

The crocheted hats for the girls are adorable.

I love the socks! My sentiments exactly when I’m reading!! I always enjoy seeing your miniatures and it is sad to lose such a talented artist. I know the back pain as it is becoming more of an issue in my daily life. Rest.

Love the socks! They are perfect. My language has become increasingly “salty” the older I get…wonder why?

I’m glad you get to have another day of rest. You’ll have the time to read now, rest your back, and knit another hat. Best things to do to relax I would
think. And, I’m sure the girls will enjoy a change of outfits.

    Enjoy your day! ;)

Love the socks; I sent it too my daughters. They use salty language when needed. Sometimes it’s the only way to really express your thoughts. ha ha

dear Claudia/Don — what great socks — that Don is a gem — one in a million !! as you might have guessed my vocabulary is quite “salty”. I blame those Irish/Scottish ancestors for it along with my (used to be) red hair, freckles and green eyes!! sometimes, when I open my mouth, I hear all of them, haha!!! hope today is a good day for you all. stay healthy/safe

I love socks by the Q company. I have several different pair (not these!) and they hold up well. Dearly loved! I’m always anxious for a new Penny! Both your cupboards are beautiful and you are indeed fortunate to have these as part of your collection. I’m so eager to see what you do with the Beacon Hill! And glad you got an unexpected rest day. Do take care!

So glad your back is a little better today. And those socks are perfect to get the message across that you will not tolerate being interrupted while you are reading. I picked up “Snow” by John Banville at the library today so I’m anxious to start it. I bought the cutest little red leather shoes for my Blythe doll. I was the first and only bidder. The shoes cost half as much as the shipping but that’s often the way it is.

I’m sorry Barbara has passed away. Lovely you have two of her pieces to remember her by.

Enjoy your weekend. Wear those socks. Hugs, Elaine

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
