Some Flowers & a Birthday

July 31, 2011 at 8:49 am by Claudia

Despite an erratic sleep schedule and some mental fuzziness (only a little), I am feeling much better. I really hit a turning point a couple of days ago. Thank goodness! I can sleep in any position, do some moderate housework and take a walk in the garden, as I did this morning.

Queen Anne’s Lace just about ready to unfurl.
More Queen Anne’s Lace
David Phlox – luckily, I had two plants and the deer left this one alone.
Purple Coneflower

One of you asked why I wasn’t taking pain meds. Of course I was taking pain meds! They were a great help but didn’t take all the pain away and I didn’t want to be on them 24 hours a day. The good news is that I was able to stop taking them on Thursday and everything is much better. I think that because the surgery is laparoscopic, it seems like it will be a piece of cake. And it might well be, save for the pumping of  gas into the abdomen. It’s a necessary evil but the side effects can be quite painful. I heard from several bloggers who had this surgery or some other abdominal laparoscopic surgery and suffered the same kind of pain.

Enough about that. I want to try and focus on the good stuff. Don is going to take me for a drive today because I am definitely suffering from cabin fever. And today is my mom’s 84th birthday.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Tell Don not to hit any pot holes in the road… don’t want to jostle you around too much.

Glad things are looking up physically for you. A few more days and all pain will be long gone… :-))

So glad to hear you are feeling better, and able to get out a little. Love the Queen’s Anne lace! Mine did not seem to reseed this year. Isn’t it funny how some people consider it a weed, and others of us consider it a beautiful flower? Kind of sums up lots of things in life!
Enjoy that Sunday drive with Don!

Davud Phlox – I didn’t know that was the name of that plant. Good to know. “Happy Birthday” to your mom, Claudia. I hope she has many more. I lost my mom 14 years ago and still miss her everyday. You don’t get over that…you just learn to live with it. Moms are so precious.
Happy to hear you are feeling a little more chipper. Enjoy that ride today. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

Oh dear Claudia I am so sorry you have to be going through this! You are a brave girl with a wonderful husband and family and friends to help you through. I’m sorry I have not been around lately. I am just getting back to blogging. Many things are happening in my life…not all are good but I still feel blessed. Prayers are going out to you my friend. My mom had her gall bladder out when I was a kid. I don’t remember much about it but I now have a new appreciation through you of the severity of it all. I am sending positive…healing thoughts to you.~~~

I see that you have had your surgery while I’ve been ‘away’, I’m glad about that and to see that you are now on the mend. This operation is no walk in the park tho, it may be minor in terms of the external incisions but internally it is major surgery and it will take time for it not to hurt. Be kind to yourself Claudia and just do what you feel is comfortable, this is no time to be brave!! ;)

Happy Birthday to your dear mother. Good to hear you are feeling better. Getting out for a bit will hopefully put some perspective on it all. I love your Queen Anne Lace. I haven’t seen any in years. When I was small I called it, “My Lace”. Ann

happy birthday to you mom!!! love your garden goodies and get well soon!! my friend that just had her surgery was feeling so weak for several days after the surgery. 2 weeks later, she still felt really tired and out of breath, and then out of nowhere those side effects went away and she started getting her strength back immediately. she is feeling awesome and it has been about 3 months since surgery. hope you get well soon. rest when you can.

    Dearest Claudia,

I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with so much lately….I do know how you feel! Things have been pretty sad around here for awhile, too, but thankfully there have been a couple of bits of good news to brighten things up. My mom got good news from her oncologist in that he feels he can still either put her in remission or cure her for a possible 8-10 years more. She’s 80, so seeing her to 90 would be awesome. The company my husband has been working for, for the past 5 years has finally been sold to an actual business person!!!! You’d understand if you knew all that’s been going on with the company in these past 5, terrible years. The owner basically milked his own company for over 17 million…..just frittered it away on family trips around the world, after taking 25% pay away from the hubby and keeping us on the edge wondering if the company would cave in or not, whether he’d even have a job day to day. Needless to say, it’s been stomach turning trying to find another job at the age of 51 when no one is hiring.

Anyhoo, I hope and pray things look up for you soon and that you heal quickly and with minimal pain. Email me if you ever wanna’ vent…..I’ll hear ya’!

    Love and hugs,
    Meri

I hope you’re still doing well Claudia! I had my surgery in the dark ages and have the foot long scar to prove it. I had a newborn and my other children to care for and got very depressed because I couldn’t do anything for awhile. I don’t know why things seem to pile on all at the same time. But I’m wishing you well!

    Hi Claudia,

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Hope you had a great time celebrating your moms birthday! The David Phlox smell heavenly. I have a few in my garden. It must be so frustrating having the deer eat everything. The flowers you do have look beautiful. Take care and hope you’re feeling even better as the dog days of summer roll on!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
