Some Needlework

April 1, 2022 at 8:48 am by Claudia

Big thunderstorms last night, heavy rain for hours, and I opened the front door this morning to see no leaks. None inside the door, none on the siding next to the door. It’s a simple thing, but oh my goodness, what a blessing to finally have it fixed! I only wish we’d done it sooner.

I know we’re supposed to have rain later this morning and the sky is still darkish, but the sun poked through and it’s beautiful. Plus, the peepers were back last night!

Since I have yet to be inspired re painting in oils (that will come) I pulled out a quilt that I pieced several years ago when I was working in Hartford. I’ve hand quilted it off and on – more off than on. I should have been finished with it by now. It has been sitting in the same basket where we stash throws and the heating pad (ever present lately.)

Imagine my surprise when Mei plopped down on it.

She knew that these colors and stripes worked very well with her outfit.

Luckily, all my supplies were here in the den, so I sat in my chair and watched Gardener’s World while doing some hand quilting. I have to be very careful that I don’t lean too far over the quilting hoop – my lower back is still fragile. It was a challenge and I feel good that I’m back at it again. A little bit every day. The quilt is about the size of a large throw and I’ve been thinking it would look good on the sofa in the living room. That’s just a thought – I may use it elsewhere.

We have several days of rain in the forecast. I’m so anxious to get out there and do some work, but this happens every year – it is Spring, after all – so I’ll be patient. As I finish this post, the sun has disappeared and it’s cloudy again.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

    That is a terrific project.
Sorry to hear that your back is still bothering you. Hope you can get relief before you need to get out in the garden. The weather is helping you to stay inside and give your back a rest! :)

The quilt is so pretty, Claudia. What a good thing to have while watching a video. I usually feel very sluggy if I’m not doing something while I watch.

I just talked with Jerry and he recently heard about Barbara Maier Gustern’s death. He wondered if you’d ever worked with her. I didn’t remember your mentioning it on the blog but who knows? Maybe. Anyway, just asking!

Have a wonderful weekend and treat the back kindly.

No, I never worked with her. She worked with singers, so she was a different kind of coach. Give my love to Jerry.

      Stay safe!

I love quilts but making them is not my thing. Enjoy it and go away rain!

I can sympathize with back pain, I struggle with it every day.
You look so different in your new photo

Just a fun picture we took when we were on the road a few years ago. It’s good to change things up.

      Stay safe, Linda.

What a happy & cheery quilt to work on while Spring rain showers continue for a bit.
Much prefer rain as to snow this time of year.
Hopefully, the rain knocks a fair bit of pollen out of the air, and seasonal allergies are lessened.
Hope you and Don have a peaceful, relaxed, and healing weekend.
    Stay safe & well.

Thank you so much, Amy. We’re due for a lot of rain over the next week so pollen shouldn’t be an issue.

      Stay safe.

Love those thunderstorms which we never get! We got a couple days with sprinkles, that’s it.
I think your girls have more clothes than I do! I was never a clothes horse, just a blue jean kind of girl. We received the most wonderful gift at our wedding. A great aunt who was in her 80’s made
us a quilt all handmade with 1 inch size squares. It is incredible! The best present we received.
Spring is not far off. Take care!

They definitely have more clothes than I do. I really have very few items of clothing.

And there are 8 of them, as opposed to 1 of me.

      Stay safe, Deb.

I got Mei from the same woman who customized Pippa and Olivia. She lives in Spain.

      Stay safe, Jenny.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
