Somewhere Over The….

December 2, 2010 at 10:07 am by Claudia

I wasn’t going to post today – however, at the end of a long, windy, blustery day when I got drenched at least twice, this appeared:

(I posted this on my photo blog, hence the different watermark.)
I was in the middle of a phone conversation with my Mom and the dogs were bugging me for dinner. Trying to escape them so I could talk without annoying little barks in the background, I walked up the stairs and saw this out the studio window.  I yelled for Don to come look, turned the phone over to him and ran to get my camera. This rainbow was perfect. We could see the whole arc from beginning to end. If you look very closely, you’ll see a double rainbow. The second rainbow is very faint.
I was outside in the rain, in my slippers with no coat on. Thank goodness Don brought out my muck boots! It was truly spectacular. The schoolbus had just arrived and our neighbors across the street were also gazing at this beautiful end to a stormy day.
I tried to use the Stitch Assist on my camera. Of course, since I had never even thought about using it before, I didn’t know what I was doing. Here’s my attempt to stitch the shots together via Picnik. Please ignore the fact that the rainbow doesn’t meet correctly. And the fact that the maple tree has more branches than it really does.
The house looks like it is breaking in two. It isn’t. At least, I hope not. The challenge with Stitch Assist, I have discovered, is in not moving the camera up or down, even slightly. If you do, you get this Picasso-esque view of MHC. Nevertheless, this gives you an idea of how far this rainbow stretched across the sky. What an amazing phenomenon a rainbow is. I can’t remember the last time I saw one. And I don’t remember ever seeing one this fully formed and ‘whole.’ I guess living in the country helps – no other buildings on the horizon to block the view. It was a little miracle that completely changed the tone of the day. A blessing.

One other note: the winner of a copy of Dear Mrs. Kennedy is Suzanne from Privet and Holly. Suzanne, I will be contacting you for your address. Congratulations!

Claudia – lovely! I saw my first 2 rainbows – ever!!! this summer – I had to pull over and just stare at the first one. I have been going to the Jersey shore all my life and saw my first dolphins leaping in the air sitting on the beach this summer also – I believe God knew I needed hope… brief glimpes of happiness – I was in an abusive marriage and on the verge of leaving. HE knows me well. Beauty in your day, Jenn

That is one seriously stunning RAINBOW. I have never seen one so perfect. Love the pics with it over your cottage, I’m thinking that means tons of good luck for you coming up. I know I will be back to peek again. Glad you decided to post. Now, go dry out those slips…..

Magnificent! I would have run outside naked if I had too! I have only seen one complete double rainbow in my life, and it was one of my favorite life time moments.
    Your photos are beautiful.

Love your attempt to stitch… not something I have ever tried before, and to be honest I would not have noticed your mistakes had you not pointed them out.

    What a GREAT rainbow!!

Claudia, leave it to you to find the perfect rainbow and manage to get a photo. I love the first one where it is arcing over your house.

I agree with Di. I wouldn’t have noticed the splice if you hadn’t pointed it out.

    Wonderful photos!

What a stunning photo Claudia. You should mat and frame a large print of this one. A reminder always, of how blessed you truly are.

Unbelievably beautiful Claudia. I always stand in awe when a rainbow appears! I heard once that the word ‘sublime’ means ‘evoking a sense of the sacred’….rainbows are one of the few things I’d call sublime :)

    Great pictures!

Claudia: The rainbow over MHC is unbelievably beautiful. What a great late autumn surprise. See, great things happen all the time even in sloppy, wet, cold times. I love your blog. Your blog and my sister were the two main inspirations that helped me come out to play in blogland. And, you’re right, enjoy autumn as long as possible. Winter comes on the 22nd of December – then the winter decorations, and magic!!! Peace.

IT HAD TO BE 15 YEARS AGO I WAS IN COLORADO, AND MY SISTER AND I JUST GOT DONE SHOPPING WAS COMING OUT OF THE STORE, THERE WAS THE BIGGEST RAINBOW I EVER SAW, WITH THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS IN THE BACK OF IT. IT WAS JUST BEAUTIFUL. HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO SEE ONE. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. RIZZI

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
