Yesterday was a gloriously beautiful Autumn day. We mowed all of the grass on the property, a very satisfying feeling, and then I took advantage of the warmth and the sun to take some pictures for those of you who have been requesting all things Fall.
The top of the maple that’s next to the house (where the big garden bed is).
That’s the house you see tucked in there among the trees. I took this while standing in the back forty, which is up a hill from the house. That’s the mountain ridge that we can see from our cottage – the same ridge where we occasionally hike.
The maple tree on the other side of the house, which is simply beautiful. Hydrangeas and porch to the right.
As you can see, there’s still a lot of green; the colors have just begun to change.
I’ll have more photos for you as the leaves change and more colors are added to the landscape. I took a lot of photos of the gardens, as well – I love capturing the changes in all of the plants as we move away from summer.

Happy Friday.
I love picture 1 so quaint. Love it.
Thank you Carolann!
Nervous… never made a comment on a blog before! I read and enjoy your posts!
I was watching North Carolina Weekend on our PBS last night and there was a little episode on miniatures on display in a High Point Museum – Meredith’s Miniatures! Thought of you. Have you seen this collection before? Here’s a link to the episode – http://www.unctv.org/content/ncweekend It’s the one that has the hot air balloon pics. I looked further to see other info about the museum and they have their own video about the collection with Meredith (for me… camera moves too fast and the two folks decided…let’s read everything we say off the cards….) http://highpointmuseum.org/merediths-miniatures/
Enjoy! And, thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, Caroline! I so appreciate it.
No, I haven’t seen that collection. I’ll be sure to check it out today. Thank you again!
Claudia, your photos are gorgeous! We are just getting a touch of Fall color here! If the sun comes out I’ll take some photos. I’m enjoying the cooler weather and hope to get some outside things done this weekend. I need to clean some junk off my back concrete slab and just make it all look better!
hugs,
Linda
Thank you, Linda! It looks like we’re getting rain today, but I certainly can’t complain – the last few days have been beautiful.
I know I’ve said this before, but I love your porch. And the fall colour is just glorious.
Thank you so much! I love that porch, too. It was a big selling point for us!
Hello Claudia, Here in CT. the leaves are starting to show color and look pretty too. I love taking rides to look at the foliage . Enjoy your day, Doris
I do, too. Especially on a sunny day!
Our birch tree right outside our kitchen is changing daily….but mostly there are just pockets of color around here. Love your maple…so regal! I truly love this time of year…the air is so clear…and the sky so blue! ;)
Oh, that blue is incredible, isn’t it?
As Donnamae said, our color is pretty sporadic right now. I was out in the yard with the dogs yesterday and noticed the top of a Maple just down the alley turning from the top down. The sun was shining on it…. so pretty!! It is supposed to be 77* here on Sunday. I hope to get a lot done out in the yard so I’m not doing it in a winter coat and gloves in a couple of weeks. I don’t do much in the gardens, but I need to cut the potted geraniums back and get them ready to come inside for the winter. I am going to try and winter over the Boston ferns, too. They can be SO messy, but I am going to try this year.
Hope you have a wonderful day!!
I have more porch plants than ever – where the heck am I going to find places to put them???
Oh, I just love the Place you live in. Your house sure seems to have the “right” Place. And the photos are adorable. As I’m an autumn person my favourite time of the year is when the leaves are changing their colors.
Hope you have a nice weekend.
Love Elzie
Thank you so much, Elzie. (Love your name!) We live in a wonderful area of the country that surely shines in the Autumn!
I first wondered where you lived. Americans mostly say fall instead of autumn lol. As I learned English English at school I mostly says autumn too.
Here in Sweden it’s the same kind of weather as at your Place. The trees starts to get yellow and red colors and today I’ve taken all my Geraniums inside today. It’s been freezing Cold the last nights.
Stay warm, Elzie. I like to use both ‘fall’ and ‘autumn.’ I alternate them! I hope I can visit Sweden some day. What a beautiful country you live in!
The photo of the suspended leaf is incredible. Seems, to me, you could somehow sell some of your photographs and make some money. They’re ART!
Thanks for the montage; helps me dream a little as I face another day over 100 degrees.
I kind of like that one myself! Maybe it will have to be framed here at the cottage?
Love the pictures! I am from Maine originally (now in Nebraksa), so miss the colors. Watched “The Poisoner’s Handbook” yesterday and really enjoyed it. Educational and Don was great!
So glad you liked it, Liz!
Claudia, your property is lovely!
Thank you, Carolyn Marie!
Now that’s what I call an October Sky. What evocative photographs.
Thank you, Nancy.
Wonderful pictures, Claudia – looking forward to seeing more. And so glad it’s finally here – October! This is MY month. Now that the colors “have started” as my Mom used to say, I’ll be out every day it’s not raining, doing little day trips along country roads, through a lot of western New York State’s small villages. I just love seeing the farms, foliage, skies, pumpkins, roadside stands, Halloween decorations, signs for church suppers and turkey parties. It truly feels like stepping back in time. And there’s only about 3 weeks a year in which to do it. I imagine the Valley just about glows at this time of year – you are SO lucky to have landed there! Enjoy the rest of your day! ?
Sounds like you’re going to have a lot of fun experiences, Janet. Enjoy, my friend!
Beautiful … fall has definitely come to your area. Long ago and faraway … in New England … we enjoyed such beautiful fall colors. Now in Lake Havasu we’re enjoying some milder temps in the 90’s rather than the 110’s and can actually use our patio … yeah!
Yay for the patio, Ann!
Thanks for sharing the autumnal photos, Claudia. Seasonal changes are too subtle where I live.
I well remember that from the days I lived in California. You could see them, but you had to look real hard!
Just beautiful Claudia!…
Thank you, Nancy!
Read All the Light You Cannot See……you will love it! Touching and memorable!
I will. It’s sitting here on my coffee table, Martha.
=sigh= It’s just a beautiful time of year. :]
It is, indeed!
