Street View: A series of photos I took when we were in Manhattan right before Christmas. I was taken by the Art Deco address for 610 Fifth Avenue that was embedded in the sidewalk. Don encouraged me to take a series of photos at ‘feet’ level.
Happy Sunday.
Claudia, COOL! that’s my generation term! That’s cool! lol Doris
Thanks, Doris!
Claudia, I was going to say Cool also just like Doris! It must be a generation thing for sure! Loved the photos!
hugs,
Linda
I think it is. I sure say it, Linda!
Claudia, I love it !! I have always love art deco. This is so clever taking these pictures. Hope everyone is much better at your house. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Slowly but surely, we’re getting better! Thanks, Susie!
I like the one holding a child. You can see their shoe. Doris
I know. Isn’t that neat?
Sp many walks of life… Hustle and bustle … City Sidewalks… And all that!
Like Doris– the child’s shoes caught my eye– as did the stroller! Children fascinate me!
… I don’t know the generation everyone has mentioned … But “cool” transcends ALL GENERATION!
It does, Pat! Cool!
There must be countless treasures for the viewing in Manhattan.
My brother-in-law takes issue with the fact that I take loads of photos with no people in them. Whenever we’re away, I like to take a lot of photos of architectural details that interest me – sometimes they are a reference for later drawing. I don’t condone vandalism, but I do have a lot of photos of street art, some of which is very beautiful.
I always take photos of buildings. I’ve done that for years. I find all that stuff fascinating!
Wouldn’t it have been interesting to have photographs taken at that angle starting from when that address was first laid in the cement? Just the different shoe/clothing styles! Love that kind of thing!
That would be VERY interesting!
This.is.cool! Seriously! Now, I want to know their back stories. Like in pic #2…the people with those turned down boots…I assume women, best friends, cousins, or just happenstance? But I love that brass plaque…or is there another name for them if they are on the ground? ;)
I have no idea! I had to think just how to describe it when I was writing the post. Plaque sounds good to me!
Very fun and artsy photos, Claudia!
Donna
Thanks, Donna!
So intriguing! These images would be wonderful as illustrations for a children’s book about life in the city. All the comings and goings.
I want to know more about the lady in black leggings, with the elegant black lace-up bootie. You just know she’s on her way to some kind of adventure.
That was a great idea, Don. You have the eye of a story-teller.
Don does have a great eye!
Loved these pictures! So interesting. The plaque is wonderful. You need to show us more.
Next time I go into the city, Tana.
I love this. I lived in Manhattan for 5 years. I returned to NZ 7 years ago this week and still miss the big city. This reminds me of the great good energy purposeful bustle of the streets. Great photos! They really capture the feel.
Thank you, Sally!
Great photos! Such a thought provoking perspective.
Thank you, Debbie!
Great photos. Love that Art Deco look. You know, Tulsa has a lot of famous Art Deco buildings. I need to go around and take some photos. I did that when I was doing my final paper for Interior Design degree. But, that was several years ago and I didn’t have a real good camera. So might try that.
They just don’t make beautiful things like that anymore, do they?
Judy
They sure don’t, Judy. I’d love to see some photos of Tulsa’s Art Deco Buildings, my friend.
Interesting view..Good idea Don..Reminds me of when we took the grandchildren to NYC years ago..They were probably about ten..It occurred to us that all they could see were peoples butts or bellies..They enjoyed Radio City though..Hope Don is feeling better..
Ah, the view from a child’s eyes!
Great perspective, I love shots taken from a different height, my favorite is ants eye view.
It’s not easy getting down to the ants eye view, Dawn!
I love embedded street art, even if unintentionally so. When I was in Japan, I took a series of photographs of the manhole covers for utilities, sewers, any metal plate covering a hole in the sidewalk or street. Almost all of them are elaborate, and differ from city to city and even districts within a city, as well as type of covering.
I bet they are stunning, Wendy.
Interesting Claudia..there certainly is a lot of nice footwear in NYC..lol..
There has to be sturdy footwear in NYC. You can’t get around otherwise.
What a great idea, Claudia. I love all of the feet. xo Laura
Thanks, Laura.
“Footwear of New York” is what I would entitle this exhibition! As always, excellent photos. You really are talented, Claudia. I’m always planning projects for other people – LOL. Now for you I see a gorgeous coffee table book of photographs chronicling a live play from start to finish, covering every aspect of production behind the scenes and in front. Up to and including waiting around for the opening night reviews. Are you familiar with Noel Streatfield’s “shoe” books? Skating Shoes, Dancing Shoes, Theater Shoes etc? Made even more famous in “You’ve Got Mail” ?? Something like that. I think you’d an awesome job. Think about it, my friend. :>) PS have a great and cozy evening…
Perhaps “Winter Footwear of New York” Janet.
I believe others have already done that sort of theatrical production from start-to-finish kind of book. I’d have to be working on something exciting…..
You have inspired me many times, from your dollhouse, to your photography…a painting is being created of footwear! Enjoying your blog!!
