Sunday Snaps 2

July 1, 2012 at 8:02 am by Claudia

Whew. It’s been a tough week here at the cottage. Scout is recovering from her illness. Riley is getting more and more frail and needs constant help navigating around the room. He can’t get up from the floor by himself any longer. But he’s got a formidable appetite and scarfs down his food. So, for now, I’ll do everything I can to help him stay with us. My back went out earlier in the week, but is much better now.

I looked around at the three of us, sitting here in the living room, and thought: We’re the walking wounded!

So, let’s look at some Sunday Snaps; this week, a view of life around the cottage garden.

One of our little chippies, up in the sugar maple tree (taken from my hidden spot just inside the kitchen door.)

Coneflowers are appearing here and there throughout the garden.
The impatiens that self-seeded are flourishing under the wooden bench on the funky patio. They like the shade. There are other babies cropping up here and there, as well. See the little red impatiens blossom in the upper right hand corner of the photo?
Here’s another one. Wouldn’t it be great if, eventually, all the little spaces between the pavers were filled with impatiens? That would definitely bring a smile to my face.
The hydrangeas are gorgeous this year. Time to bring some in to put in the McCoy vase on the coffee table.
Another view of this little cutie. Oh my goodness, I love chipmunks. And we have several hanging around the cottage this year, more than I’ve ever seen. I need to get some peanuts and try to feed them by hand, like my friend Donna does.
Since I’ve finished another round of two days of lawn mowing, today I plan to buy some non-skid mats for Riley. It won’t contribute much to the ‘charming’ look of the living room and kitchen, but, hopefully, it will help him get around. The wood floors are just plain impossible for him nowadays.
Happy Sunday.

I am so sorry to hear about all your troubles this week. The mats sound like a great idea. I have wood floors too and my Max sometimes slips.I am always afraid that he is going to get hurt. I hope they help your pup get around. Here’s hoping you have a better week this week.
    Blessings, Joanne

It seems to all come at once doesn’t it….and when the pets in your life are ailing it’s so much worse.

I love the chipmunk, adorable little creatures, that despite all the trees here we don’t see to often.

But I can live vicariously through your photos.

Hope that your back is better soon, I went through that last week, honestly, it sucked. Do you go to the chiro?

Lovely pictures Claudia. We have some adorable little chipmunks living in a pile of broken cupboard pieces we use to make furniture with. Rufus and Daisy have discovered that they live there and spend most of the day waiting for them to appear…..they wait a long time!

Glad that Scout is better and it is good that Riley still has a great appetite. Sometimes we have to adjust to help them. I know that there are days when I have trouble getting up (sore knee) but we do what we have to do.

    Happy day,
    Sue

Claudia, my heart goes out to you. It is oh-so-hard when our pets get old. Riley was blessed from above when you and Don adopted him. You two have more than made up for whatever bad things happened to him when he was young. And I know he has blessed your lives as much as you have his. Hoping the non skid mats work. You are a good doggie mommy, that’s for sure.

LOVE your little Chip! Oh, yes, you will definitely be able to win him over with a little bit of patience and a lot of non-salted peanuts! haha

I can’t imagine anything lovelier than impatiens growing between each of the pavers – what a gorgeous patio that would make! Hoping they spread like wildfire and come back stronger each and every year – which is a miracle in itself considering the weather we get here in the northeast!!

    All my best to you,
    Donna

Gotta take care of our babies first and foremost! I love your chippies. So cute. And I am envious of your hydrangeas. My little one I bought earlier in the summer kind of looks pitiful. If it ever does bloom, I’ll be a happy camper!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
