It’s still a degree below freezing, but it will warm up to 61 today. Quickly scanning the week ahead, it looks like this will be the last week where it goes down below freezing at night. Next week? In the forties. That means I’ll soon be able to begin garden cleanup.
But not until I’m feeling better. And I’m not feeling much better. I felt crappy most of the day yesterday and it wasn’t until about 6 pm that I began to feel human. Today? Can’t tell yet.
This group is on the petite side and not one of them has a marking. So I don’t know who made them.
• A blue and off-white egg cup, fairly heavy. I believe it was a gift. Lovely design.
• A plastic Art Deco-inspired egg cup that I found at the Paris flea market. I love all things Art Deco and this was so unlike anything I had that I grabbed it. Also: PARIS!
• Another Paris flea market find. It’s a bit battered and not in great condition, but it’s red transferware (if that is even what it’s called in France) and it’s very old. Also: PARIS!
• This is a very heavy egg cup, Asian in design. I have no idea where it came from (did I buy it?)
I’ll show you the other side of this one:
An Asian design with dragons – there’s even more, but it’s hard to get the whole picture because of the curve of the cup. It might be stoneware.
And these two:
You might remember me knitting these bunny egg cup cozies several years ago. I believe that happened when Don was away somewhere; Boston, La Jolla, somewhere. I was so charmed by this pattern that I couldn’t resist. The one on the right is Mom. The one on the left is her son. If I had eggs in the cups, they’d be sitting up higher. (Note to self: Do that.)
The son is perched on a tiny lustreware egg cup that was one of my very first purchases. Mom is perched on an egg cup from Prague – a gift from Don that he found when he was filming The Poisoner’s Handbook for PBS.
Speaking of films, thank you to those of you who have taken the time to watch Spoiler Alert. I can’t tell you how important it is to me that you see it, and when you let me know you’ve seen it, my heart is full. I’ve had a full and rewarding life in the theater; teaching, training actors, working with all sorts of wonderful people including many, many actors who would be called ‘famous.’ I’ve worked on Broadway. Pretty much every dream has been fulfilled and I’m profoundly grateful
But this movie, such an unexpected event in the later years of my career, is the most visible and important thing I’ve done. Attending the premiere was one of the biggest things to ever happen to me. And the icing on the cake was acting in it – completely unexpected and a gift from God. I’m very, very proud of my work on this movie – Ben sounds completely American – and I think I make quite a believable nurse.
It’s available everywhere now. You can buy a DVD, you can rent it for a modest price on most all the streaming platforms. Obviously, I can’t make you watch it. But, you know how much it means to me that you see it. It’s a beautiful movie full of wonderful, heartfelt performances. You’ll cry. You’ll laugh, You’ll get to see me in a scene with Jim, Ben, Bill Irwin, and Sally Field.
Thanks! I don’t ask much, if anything of you. It would mean a great deal to me.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

I love these unusual egg cups and yes…sigh….Paris! I love Spoiler Alert and will watch it again soon. It’s such a lovely story and great acting including a certain nurse. I hope you feel much better soon.
Jacqui Pierce says
How I love seeing details of your egg cups each year as Easter nears. I’ve mentioned before that I collect egg cups as well, and I think they are such a treasure. I actually use mine when I’m in the mood for a soft boiled egg and it’s always fun to pick one to use on those occasions. Haven’t seen Spoiler Alert as yet because I don’t stream much tv, but I will check Netflix and if I don’t find there I will be ordering the dvd. I would love to see “live” Claudia in action — my husband laughs when I share your blog info with him and say “my friend Claudia”. But I enjoy your blog so very much, and find that we love so many of the same things. My husband and I are best friends as are you and Don, and it’s refreshing to hear you speak so lovingly of him. Unfortunately, so many women do not do the same. Have a great day my friend…
Claudia says
It’s on Amazon Prime for sure, not sure if it’s on Netflix. It is definitely on Peacock.
I don’t like it when women (or men, for that matter) speak disparagingly of their mate, unless there’s real cause for doing so. But casually doing it, like it’s a joke…that’s not for me.
Stay safe, Jacqui.

the main thing … hope you and don feel completely better soon and stay that way!
more collectible things … those egg cups are lovely, especially together. thanks for all you share here and for the time and effort these posts take.
a moving thing … “spoiler alert” is powerful (i hope lots more people see it and that you have a copy of it to keep). that you are pleased with your career is powerful (not everyone can say that most of their career goals have been reached). what you’ve done in your career is powerful (not just anyone can get up on stage or in front of a camera and act, sing and dance and so bring happiness or a break-from-real-life to people. not just anyone can teach or coach other people to do something. not just anyone would choose or be able to move clear across the country for work or education). you are powerful. don is powerful. while efforts are made by you and don, prayers are said by people, including me, and your lives are lived in other good ways with hopes of more work for you both, always know that you two help make the world a better place by sharing your talents with the world. and i thank you for that.
happy, safe monday to everyone. including, sincerely, everyone who cheers for the lsu women’s basketball team (who beat the iowa hawkeyes in yesterday’s national championship game). had to go for a ride … that big game was stressful!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Kathy, which really touched me. I’ll be sure to read them to Don.
Much love to you.
Stay safe.
Barrie says
Yes, the egg cups just being from Paris makes them cool! I do like that Art Deco one… very nice! Hope you and Don are feeling a lot better soon!
Claudia says
Me too! I’m getting impatient now.
Stay safe, Barrie.
Betsy B says
Oh! I remember those little bunnies. Still cute as can be. The art deco egg cup is lovely.
Spoiler Alert is so well done.
Claudia says
It is, isn’t it? Thank you, Betsy.
Stay safe.
Marilyn Schmuker says
I love the Art Deco cup and also the Asian one. And love, love, love the bunny cozies!
I did watch Spoiler Alert and it’s very good. You were a very believable nurse. Coincidentally, as I was reading the book, my brother-in-law who is gay, was diagnosed with anal cancer so it hit really close to home for me. He has completed chemo and radiation and his prognosis is good.
Ben sounded very American and I loved Sally Field, one of my favorite actors. I just noticed it is still streaming on Peacock (I think) so plan to watch it again soon.
Take care-Feel better
Claudia says
I’m so sorry about your brother-in-law, Marilyn but very happy to hear his prognosis is good.
Thank you, my friend.
Stay safe.

prayers said for your brother-in-law. glad his prognosis is good.
will be praying for him, you and the rest of your family.

Claudia, I wonder if you and Don may have contracted RSV? We were stunned here that my husband came down with it and have no idea from where he got it. He was more sick than with the flu or Covid. There’s no vaccine but there is testing. In any case, I hope you feel better soon.
I just want to add that I’m a faithful daily reader of yours and former occasional comment-poster. I have been very low key since the untimely death of my millennial-aged daughter from Covid in December 2020. Your topics over time on grief and loss have been enormously helpful to me. I’m working to gather my courage to watch “Spoiler Alert” which a fellow mom-survivor friend of mine says is awesome. My daughter was a huge Jim Parsons fan. I will watch I just can’t promise when.
Claudia says
I don’t know. I doubt it, but if there’s nothing you can do about it, it really doesn’t matter.
Dear Eve, I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter. Whenever, if ever, you want to watch it is your call. You’ll know when it’s the right time. Sending you a huge hug.
xoxo
Claudia
Eve says
Claudia, thank you for your kindness and hugs. I am getting closer, just the fact that I can write about it is progress. I love Sally Field.
Claudia says
Much love to you and your husband and family, Eve.
kathy in iowa says

please keep taking good care of yourself.
i will be praying for your daughter, you, your husband and the rest of your family.
sending a hug (if okay),

Eve says
Kathy, thank you, both hugs and prayers are always appreciated. We’re doing much better. My husband additionally had open heart bypass less than a week after her passing, but his health is good now.
kathy in iowa says
oh, dear eve! unimaginable, doubled hardship … :o
i am glad to hear that your husband’s health has improved, but sorry it took surgery to get there.
glad if day by day you have more and more peace.
hugs from me and prayers for you all continue!

Eve, please know thoughts and prayers are on their way from Wisconsin. So very sorry for your loss and happy to hear your husband is doing better. Take care. chris
Eve says
Thank you, Chris, for taking time to post such kind words. Claudia’s place has always been a wonderful community. I was relieved to hear you too are on the mend.
Elaine in Toronto says
Hope you and Don feel a little better every day and will soon be over the flu. It certainly saps your energy and tries your patience. Cute little Mama and son egg cozies. I remember when you knit them. I have “Spoiler Alert” on hold at the library. I think I’m #296 in the queue but it will be worth the wait. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Bless you! We both feel sick and I have a bit more energy today, but I tire out within seconds.
Thanks so much, Elaine.
Dee+Dee says
I hope that I can access Spoiler Alert as I definitely want to see you and the film. I keep checking if it’s on any of the platforms to which I subscribe but I haven’t looked for a couple of weeks.
We don’t always receive the same films even on global services such as Amazon.
Thanks for sharing the egg cups
Claudia says
I’m not sure what the delay is in England, but I have heard that from several people. I’ll try to contact Ben again to see if he know!
Thanks so much, Dee Dee.
Stay safe.
Jenny says
I think the red transfer egg cup from Paris is my favorite – which is saying a lot because you have so many splendid egg cups!! Also, I definitely plan to watch Spoiler Alert, soon. Thank you for the reminder!!
Claudia says
You’re most welcome! That little red cup is awfully sweet.
Stay safe, Jenny.
jeanie says
Oh, these petite egg cups are so dear! I love them all and your egg cup covers, too.
I’m one of the late ones to Spoiler Alert, needing to find a streaming service I have to watch it. But I promise I will. I have looked forward to it for a long while and I still am. I can see why it was such an important part of your life.
Claudia says
Especially because it came at a time when I felt my career was winding down. Unexpected delight.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Judy Clark says
So sorry you and Don are both not feeling well. This crazy weather has made everyone sick. Last week we had below freezing temps, on Friday we had 65 mph winds and today it is in the 80s. Crazy! I love seeing all of your egg cups. You know it’s your fault I started collecting egg cups? LOL. I don’t have near the collection you do but am working on it. Hope you are both feeling better soon.
Claudia says
I proudly take responsibility for your collection, Judy!
Thank you, dear friend.
Stay safe.
Denise S says
I hope you and Don start to feel better soon.
I rented Spoiler Alert on Amazon a couple weeks ago. The movie is very good and the acting is excellent. I enjoyed seeing you in the movie. You were a very convincing Nurse Claudia! The story near the end of the movie was heart wrenching and left me weeping because my mom died of a similar illness six and a half years ago.
Claudia says
Hopefully, that weeping was cathartic, Denise. Much love to you.
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
I really hope you and .Don get over whatever it is you have. No time for that….yard work is beckoning…lol.
Spoiler Alert is still on my to be watched list…one of these days I will when life settles down a bit.
I’m intrigued by the extra large egg cup…ostrich egg perhaps? Hope you start to feel better! ;)
Claudia says
Not to mention a commitment to this play I’m coaching. And a paycheck.
What extra large cup, Donnamae? These are all relatively small.
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
I thought you said the blue Asian cup was bigger. My mistake. ;)
Claudia says

We did watch Spoiler Alert. So good!! We both love Jim Parsons and that nurse was really good, too!! Ben certainly sounded American through and through!
Hope you both are feeling better as the days progress. One day at a time….. take care.

Thank you for your kind words, Chris.
How are you feeling?
