Another sunny day! And it will reach 51, which is a treat. We’re due for at least three days of rain mid-week, but I can’t complain as this stretch of sunny weather has been fantastic.
I slept in today, which was nice, but it throws off my ‘schedule,’ to use the word loosely. So I’m writing this post rather hurriedly because we want to take a little drive today.
I read a lot yesterday, straightened up my part of the office – which needed it, and watched The Music Man last night with my husband. It’s one of my favorite movies for many reasons. It’s done so well, I love Robert Preston, the story and score are charming and heartwarming, and it’s one of the few movies that our family saw in an actual movie theater, right after it opened. My dad loved Shirley Jones. He loved the movie. We had the soundtrack and he played “Being in Love” all the time. It’s such a good memory. Paul Ford, as the mayor, is brilliant. Anyway, it was such fun to watch it with Don.
I got an email from Netflix yesterday – Season 3 of Babylon Berlin is coming on March 1st. If you are a fan, I thought you’d like to know. I have raved about this series since I saw it last year. It’s the best series I’ve ever seen. Obviously, that’s my personal opinion, but the acting, the script, the level of period detail, the gripping storyline – all of it taking place in the last days of the Weimar Republic in Berlin – is impeccable. I actually shouted out to Don when I read the email and made him come into the den to read it. We can’t wait.
Okay. Have to run.
Happy Sunday.

We saw The Music Man on Broadway with Robert Preston and Barbara Cook. It was thrilling. Lovely tunes you could hum along to, fabulous voices. One of my favorites.
Claudia says
How lucky you were! I was a big fan of Barbara Cook. I saw her at least 3, maybe 4, times in concert, and got to meet her once. Such a glorious voice!

Oh, I love the Music Man, too. I’d love to see the Jackman/Foster version coming soon. I like them both onstage. But can anyone beat Robert Preston? (In anything?)
And I have to tell you what a kick I get out of seeing so many books that are on my shelf on yours!
Happy Sunday. It is SUNday here — and supposedly 50 (I’ll believe it when I see it) so a good day for a walk and painting and soaking it in!
Claudia says
No. That’s the answer. No matter how talented, no one can ever bring to that character what Preston did.
Sunny here today as well! Thanks, Jeanie.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Sunny here, too!! Supposed to be close to 50*! But heavy snow on Tues into Wed. ugh.
Music Man is a fun show. Both of our kids were in HS productions over the years. And the music is so lasting!!
Enjoy your drive today. The kids are coming here for lunch today. Good reason to clean the house this weekend!!
Claudia says
We’re getting rain tomorrow and Wednesday. I guess the snow isn’t getting this far. I’m sorry! Thanks, Chris.
Donnamae says
Oh..I do love Music Man. I haven’t seen it in years…but I can still see Robert Preston leading the band!
As Chris said, heavy snow is coming. Sigh….I am so over snow, and it’s been a relatively mild winter. Guess my age is showing…oops. But…today is Sunny and warmer. Good day for a walk.
Hope you enjoy your ride! ;)
Claudia says
I’m so sorry about the snow. When it is relentless, you feel worn down by it all. Thanks, Donnamae.

Sunny and in the low 50’s here today! However, a big snowstorm is coming our way Mon night – Wed afternoon. Depending on how it tracks, we may just get a few inches. Or, we could get a LOT. We’re a little bit worried, because Tim’s plane leaves O’Hare on Tues afternoon. This storm could cause a huge delay. Only time will tell. In the meantime, I have the windows open in my house today and it’s heavenly!
Brian and I started watching Babylon Berlin a few months ago and I just couldn’t get into it. It’s not that I thought it was “bad”; it’s just not the type of TV drama I enjoy.
I’ve never seen The Music Man as far as the movie, but I did see a local theater production and it was excellent.
Hope you have a nice drive today – enjoy the weather!
Claudia says
I hope that weather doesn’t interfere with Tim’s flight and that you’ve been having a wonderful visit with him! Thanks, Melanie.

Thanks for the news of Babylon Berlin, I really enjoyed the first two series, having studied the era for history exams. I mentioned recently the Harlan Coben series The Stranger on Netflix. If I hadn’t been location spotting for local places, I probably would have given it up. Some of the acting was woeful, but the cafe’s interior where I met my friend for coffee was shown plus lots of other places I recognised😀
I’m hoping to go on my annual trip to the Lake District next weekend. I go with the same two friends and we stay overnight in a cosy hotel in a lovely village but there’s snow at home and also there starting on Tuesday. I’m not the one driving and the motorway will be open but it’s the narrow, winding country lanes to get to the village that will be the problem. It’s forecast to last at least a week!
It doesn’t snow often enough here for towns to have snow ploughs or winter tyres to be fitted so we always seem to have problems. I do own a pair of ice grippers that fix on the soles of my shoes and they’re worth their weight in gold!
Happy Sunday
Claudia says
We watched The Stranger. I don’t think any of the acting was bad – to me it had more to do with the storyline or the direction. We enjoyed it. I guess, according to Coben, it will probably be a just the one season.
Have fun on our your upcoming trip, Dee Dee! I’ve always wanted to visit the Lake District. Hope the weather doesn’t make it too difficult. I have those grippers as well. They are a necessity for my neck of the woods!

Oh, I hope you have a lovely drive today on your sunny day!
Claudia says
Thank you, Vicki!

So happy for the nicer weather. I hope to do a few things outside this week after the rain. I will be doing some errands tomorrow and enjoying the nice weather.. The front and back yards need cleaning up. Enjoy your ride.

It’s giving me spring fever, Marilyn!

I hope your Sunday outing was safe and enjoyable. My husband has also enjoyed Babylon Berlin (I haven’t watched it as yet). He will be watching the third season from March 1. He has enjoyed reading books by Philip Kerr about a German detective named Bernie Gunther. The books are written at a similar time to Babylon Berlin. The books are described as historical thrillers.
I haven’t read any references in your posts to Philip Kerr so I thought you might be interested in checking one out from your library. Apologies if you have already heard of him.
Claudia says
I’ve definitely heard of Philip Kerr, though I’ve not read any of his books. Thanks for the information, Miche. I think I’d be interested in reading that series.

The sun has been nice here and after freezing every day last winter, I’m enjoying the milder temps the last couple of months, even tho I invested heavily (for me) in 4 long-sleeve t-shirts so I wouldn’t be so cold this year and I really didn’t need them. I guess better to have them than not. I discovered I have that thing where your limbs turn white in the cold. As I age, it seems like every year there’s some new “thing”. I think the drug companies have medicalized every pimple and pore. We used to just call it all getting old. LOL. Anyway, my point was going to be that I have missed the beautiful snows we had last year. It’s true I don’t have to shovel which makes a big difference, but the expanses of pristine white and the sun darting in and out of the trees making blue/purple shadows and the clear footprints of the critters which move thru our “yard” that we never actually see are so satisfying. As I’ve mentioned, I moved to New England from the North County area near San Diego which you are familiar with, because I wanted a change of seasons, and the last decade there hasn’t been that much change–just freezing cold and slippery snow or hot muggy summers. I now miss the more even weather patterns of San Diego and coastal environs if we’re not going to have a real spring and fall and winter and summer. Not too picky am I? But the older I get (there’s a theme here), the more impact the weather has on me and my relationship with the world. Possibly because I’m more aware of the man-made threats to the golden California summers and the fresh, frosty New England winters I experienced when I first moved here in 1981. It’s sunny now and up to the 50s, so I’m hanging up my long-sleeved Ts and fishing out a 3/4 length sleeve. LOL. Wishing you a week of wonders.

I love a beautiful snow covered landscape as well, but having had to deal with shoveling it all by myself in the years Don was away, not having to shovel much this year has been such a relief. It’s hard on my back, I can’t shovel as much as I used to, it’s exhausting, and it’s hard on Don as well. We need the snow for our wells, etc., (and for some of our plants) but all the rain we’ve had has made up for it.
San Diego’s weather patterns are not nearly so even as they used to be, Nora. We have many friends who still live there and we’ve both worked out there in recent years. It gets much hotter, much more humid, and forest fires impact that area much more frequently. California is beautiful, yes, but it is not the land of idyllic weather any longer. Sad, but true. It has been negatively impacted by climate change. It makes me very sad. (It’s still gorgeous, of course!)
