Sunset and Some Blog Stuff

August 10, 2022 at 8:57 am by Claudia

Last night’s sunset, which was truly spectacular.

We had another 10 minute heavy downpour in the afternoon. We were cheering! It’s not nearly enough, of course, but every little bit helps. There’s no precipitation in the forecast for the next four or five days. Today is noticeably less humid and by Friday, the temperatures should drop to the 80s which will be most welcome. We just have to hang in there for two more days.

Blog stuff: I’ve noticed that the blog emails, sporadic as they have been for the last year, haven’t gone out at all in the last two weeks. I did some quick research this morning and it looks as if the email subscriptions via Feedburner have finally been stopped – as of the end of July. It’s official.

I warned everyone about this a long time ago. And I’ve periodically reminded you about it over the past year. Frankly, I’m surprised they’ve lasted this long. Bookmark the blog on your browser and come here directly.

You truly don’t need an email reminder that I’ve posted. I post every day of the week. Besides, the blog is prettier than the emails (I worked hard to make it that way) and by coming here directly, you contribute to my ad income.

I’m going to do some work on the shows I’m coaching this morning. I’ve done a lot of work on the deductions – now I just have to wait for Don to do his. He will wait until the last minute; I can guarantee it.

By the way, yesterday morning, Don woke us both up by shouting out in his sleep. I couldn’t discern any words – just sounds, but it was loud! He hardly ever does that. I reached over to comfort him and he told me he had been having a nightmare and that he was shouting “Get out! Get out!!!”

I may grab the chance to pull some weeds this morning. Normally, I’ve stopped doing any weeding by August, but with the heat wave, the weeds have been out of control. I feel the need to exert a little effort and neaten things up.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

glad you had some rain and that it was followed by such a lovely sunset. our natural world is so beautiful and restorative (though they have a purpose and are God’s creatures, too, i don’t have the same sentiment about bugs and a few other things)!

oof … nightmares are a tough way to start the day. hope you and don have sweeter dreams and easier wake-ups.

am sure you feel better for getting some of the tax work done. good luck with that, the research for the jobs and the weeding. i know you enjoy gardening, but hope you can then do something more fun or easier and cooler for getting the work stuff done.

having spent over seven hours in an emergency room last wednesday night, we took covid tests last night and i am grateful they all were negative. :)

no other big news here so will get to doing what i need to do.

hope everyone here has a good and easy day. stay safe.

Kathy, like you, I spent some time in the hospital last week–overnight with an appendectomy the next morning. Because it was “early” appendicitis, they offered me the opportunity to stay in the hospital another two days on IV antibiotics and then test again and see if the appendix had improved. Surgery would then be done if it hadn’t. If I had surgery the next day, I could go home that afternoon. I chose the surgery the next day. I didn’t want more people than I have seen since Covid coming in and out of my room for several more days! No sign of Covid for me or my husband, either. We were all lucky, you and us, right?

        oh, linda …

sorry that you had to have surgery! i hope by now you are feeling much better and will have a full, easy recovery. i will pray for that.

i would have made the same choice, to have that surgery and get home as soon as possible.

glad that you and your husband tested negative, that members of my family did, too.

        yes, lucky and blessed here!

take it easy and stay safe.

Beautiful photo…I detest working on taxes…always did my own, but since I live near son now, he did them quickly for me. I realize yours are more complicated. Enjoy your day…

I really hate working on them and I have a feeling we’ll owe money this year.

Your sunset was gorgeous! And you got a bit of rain! How nice!

It’ll feel so nice to have the tax deductions taken care of! Maybe that’s what Don’s nightmare was about!

Call me naive but I didn’t realize you make an income off the blog
Do you have any say on the advertisements that are placed?

I wouldn’t have any ads if I didn’t need some income to support the costs of hosting a blog, security for the blog, etc. They help cover those costs. The company I’m with is very careful about ads and if one, by chance, was offensive, I’d report it to them. But, I don’t know it you know this, but ads on any site are geared to you, the reader. The browser has an idea of what sites you visit, so the ad that you see when you look at the blog might be very different from the one I see.

I’ve worked hard to keep the number of ads to a minimum, to not have them occur within the text of a post. I see a lot of other bloggers with lots of ads within their posts and it drives me crazy.

I wouldn’t call it an ‘income,’ by any means. Just a bit of money to pay the blog bills.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Every bit of rain helps, we really are paying for the first couple of months of beautiful summer. Under your influence I just bought what I think is a Blythe. I think it’s a factory doll, sold as customizable, and looking like brand new. The information you posted the other day about all the different kinds of Blythe factory in sake was really helpful, but I saw dolls with pole rings to change their eye direction, and extra ice chips, but I couldn’t find information on some of the dolls if they included that. I mentioned this only because I had no idea how complex collecting these dolls is. It’s fascinating. I have collected Tonner dolls, Ashton drake dolls, Elowynnes and Riley’s, some of them fashion dolls contemporary and vintage styled, some of them six or 7 inches and some of them taller, and some of them having head face ups But even the customized ones were pretty straightforward. I’m very interested in getting the two dolls that I ordered to find out if they really are blind or some other flavor. Over the years Claudia you have introduced me to so many interesting and fun hobbies such a doll houses, egg cups, vintage China, among others, and I’ve enjoyed everyone. All of these words are in service of my saying thank you for sharing your interests and passions. After my husband‘s death last year, I have learned that it is the small daily and routine activities that are intrinsic to the fabrics of our lives. I hope you have an idea of how many people you have touched by sharing your photos and stories. Take care

So if they’re customizable, they’ve got the shiny face?

I’m glad you’re exploring Blythes, Nora.

Nora, you never told me that your husband died. I’m so, so sorry to hear this. I know you were absent from commenting for a long while. I suspect that’s why. Sending my love and sympathy to you, dear Nora.

Thank you! I did a little more reading about the shiny faces, and consensus seems to be that most of the dolls are made that way, and that many people sand the shine off using A variety of methods. A review that I read of the various models was extremely Byzantine and its complexity. It seems as if to customize the doll the shine must be removed. Of course since I didn’t make a note of any of these resources, I’m not very helpful. Perhaps You also remember when the dolls first came out and we’re so different from anything on the market. It’s quite wonderful they’ve had a resurgence. As always your choices of dolls and outfits Are the cream of the crop, and I can see how addictive these little girls can be. Hoping for less heat and more rain as August passes. Stay safe!

Yes that’s true. All Blythes have shiny faces before they’re customized. All of my girls have been customized.

You’re off on a new adventure, Nora!

Your blog is the only one I read faithfully that has ads…the others are just women chatting

I would venture that those are blogs that are on Blogger, which is free. Those of us who use a server/host – in my case, because it’s much more secure – almost always have ads because paying for a server and security, etc. is expensive. My blogger blog was once hacked and disappeared for several hours. After that, I vowed to get off Blogger. Now there’s always someone to help me with technical problems. On Blogger, there was no one.

Of course, this blog is basically women chatting, too!

      Stay safe, Brenda.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
