It rained like crazy yesterday. Flood warnings were up. You can’t have this much snow and ice on the ground and not have a problem when there is excessive rain. Since the culverts down by the road are overloaded with snow/ice, the water was draining onto the road and there was lots of it. Crazy.
But at the end of the day, gasps were coming from within the cottage when Don and I saw this:
One of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever seen.
Don has an audition today and I’m going into the city with him because my ring is already repaired and ready for pickup. It won’t be an exciting trip – Don will rush downtown for his audition, I’ll pick the ring up and dawdle in Midtown, then we’ll meet up and head home. But, better to go in today when the winter weather isn’t an issue.
We didn’t get to both movies last night, but we did watch Mary Poppins Returns, which is absolutely delightful and magical and wondrous and everything a movie like this should be. We were enchanted by it! I love Emily Blunt and, of course, what’s not to love about Lin-Manuel Miranda? The entire cast was pitch perfect, including a couple of wonderful cameo performances at the end of the movie which made us smile in delight.
Don has already voted as the deadline is today. Someday soon I’ll talk about what we’ve seen during this awards season – if you’d like. I’m a bit hesitant about expressing my opinion because I don’t want to put the damper on something you might like. But I can certainly give a general overview. Let me know what you think.
Alright, my friends. I’m off to get ready for yet another trip into the city.
Happy Friday.
I am interested in your comments on this year’s movies, so please feel free.
I agree with Terri. I’m also interested in your take on the movies, Claudia, as well as readers’ comments. Everyone provides thought-provoking ideas and opinions.
Thanks, Wendy.
Thank you, Terri.
glad the ring is ready and you two can get ahead of the weather, travel together to and from new york city today.
best wishes to don on the audition.
and good luck with the flooding. hope it causes no trouble for you or anyone else.
i don’t see many movies (maybe four total last year?), but appreciate your reviews of books, movies, plays … thank you.
my twin sister and i are spending tomorrow with our great-niece and one of our (two) great-nephews while other family members make a move (thankfully they’ll only be a half-hour away and the move brings some good things, but i am still emotional about it). tomorrow will be a change of pace, a change of energy required and it will be fun. they are such sweet kids. :)
hope you have a nice weekend, too.
kathy in iowa
I hope you had a wonderful day with family, Kathy!
I’m a bit jealous of your city trip today. Hope it turns out to be a great day for the two of you! Our kids are moving into their first jointly owned piece of Manhattan—so exciting (for their mother, at least)! Good weather is wished for all!
It was very cold and windy, Shanna. And gray. Not the best weather in which to enjoy the city.
I hope you two have a fun time and Don’s audition goes well. I, for one, would love to hear your comments on the movies. We are going to hunker down…and putz the weekend away while we are in this deep freeze. Enjoy your day! ;)
It’s really cold here, as well! I cannot wait for Spring!
I totally agree with the appearances at the end of Mary Poppins. I also so loved Colin Firth as a villain.
Me too!
I love reading your professional reviews of films. I’m wondering if I missed your comments about Roma. Keep ’em coming! Beautiful sunset!
I spoke about it briefly here and in more detail on IG. I loved it. One of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
Ever think about it, its not a sunset with out clouds? :)
Right!
It sounds like a great day and evening. I’m truly looking forward to Mary Poppins and to be honest, you could have said it was the worst movie you’d ever seen and I’d still be looking forward to it. I stopped picking what I wanted to see by other people’s opinions — which I value and love to discuss. But you have to decide for yourself. The fun thing about hearing someone else’s take — before or after you see something — is that sometimes you glean something that gives you a little insight or helps you notice a wee detail that might have passed. And that’s fun!
And what a gift that sunset was. Almost makes the weather worth it!
The sunset was spectacular, Jeanie! Thank you.
I love to hear your movie thoughts!! It is a good weekend here for reading and watching movies, that is for sure. And, sadly, next week is forecast to be even more terrible. More snow and by Wed & Thur actual temps of about -22*. My daughter’s move went well this morning and the movers showed up promptly at 8. So so happy!!! With weather like this, we never know what to expect. Most of the rural schools had 2 hr delays.
Hope this craziness doesn’t reach MHC! We can only hope that it is a quick hit here and then gone. Hauling water every summer evening seems like a lovely dream right now!! Safe travels today and good luck to Don on his audition.
Very cold here, as well. Yuck!
I’m now officially over Winter.
Mary Poppins is a wonderful movie. The colors and costumes are amazing.
Green Book is one of the best films that I saw last year. It is terrific how it brought a new set of listeners to Don Shirley’s music.
We will be sure to watch Green Book, Julie. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Claudia, as usual, you and Don have a safe trip and break a leg, Don. I’ve been in and out all week, and when I was in, I did not so much fun stuff like scrubbing the bathtub. It’s a deep tub so cleaning it is a pain. And since I don’t use it for baths, I’m eventually having the bathroom remodeled and having a nice shower put in. Saving my nickels and dimes! So today is play day in my sewing room. After I finish sewing two purse accessories and a new bag, I’ll cut out and sew a winter coat. I deep dived into my box of lining fabrics and came up with exactly what I wanted. Yay!
I long for a day of play but I can’t do that until I finish cleaning out the office. I’ve started but I keep being pulled away by bad weather, storms, very little heat, etc.
I might be fanciful Claudia, but I see an angel in the cloud. She is looking to the right. Her wings are out stretched. It is indeed a beautiful sunset.
Share your thoughts on the awards. It is your blog after all.
On Sunday my cousin and I are off to see the Wizard on the big screen. I am excited!
I went to the Vintage by Crystal sale. I won my first flower girl.
Enjoy the city.
How lovely! I’ll look for that angel.
So glad you got a Vintage by Crystal creation, Trudy!
Good thoughts for Don and his audition.
Marilyn
Just a routine audition that could go any way. Television is about your ‘look.’ Thanks, Marilyn.
I always enjoy your opinions on movies and books. You won’t keep me from seeing something I want to see but you might encourage me to see something I might not.
Have a good trip to the city.
Thanks, Kay!
I love hearing your comments on movies because of your professional spin! I know what I like and don’t like, but I enjoy your observations knowing that you know much more about what goes into the acting and making of a movie. Comment on!
I will. Just have to get a bit rested before I write that sort of post.
I second the comments above about wanting to read your opinions. As someone said, it’s your blog and, after all, that’s why we come back to read it. ;-)
That is a gorgeous sunset. Cannot believe you’re getting so much rain! It is currently 20 below wind chill here as I type this. Oh, how I wish it were warm enough for rain.
Looking forward to reading about your return trip to the city. Take care.
We had rain, but then the temps fell and we’re in a very cold spell. Thanks, Kay!
Wow to that sunset…I hope Don had a great addition!
It was a routine television audition. They’re almost always about your ‘look’ and they are relatively short. Who knows?
Thanks, Nancy.
Yes, please comment on this year’s movies. Thank you!
Thank you, Lottie.
