Do your eyes deceive you?
The sun has made its presence known. It may be only for a day, it may be for more than a day. But right now, in this moment, it’s gloriously sunny out there.
The leaves on the catalpa – always the last to emerge – are showing themselves as well. They’re so small right now, but soon they’ll be the largest leaves out of all the varieties of trees on the property. Big, gorgeous heart-shaped leaves. And, right about the same time that the peonies begin to bloom, the catalpa will show off all its lovely and exceedingly fragrant flowers.
I’m enormously grateful for all this beauty. I’m always grateful for it, but I suppose endless days of gloom and rain make the contrast all the more striking.
We watched The Shop Around the Corner last night, even though Don protested initially, saying it was a Christmas movie, after which I proceeded to explain that I certainly watch it more than once a year and here it was in primetime and of course we were watching it. As I knew would be the case, he was glad we watched it. Ernst Lubitsch’s direction. Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, and a cast of simply scrumptious character actors. What more could you ask for?
I’m going to spend some time on the porch today.
Happy Wednesday.
great movie. will you now watch “you’ve got mail” to compare? though there really is no comparison and (even though i like tom hanks) i’m not a big fan of remakes …
hope your back is better now!
know you will enjoy that sunshine!
it’s sunny here, supposed to reach 88 degrees tomorrow (too soon!) and i am in a day-dreamy mood, trying to figure out how to get more time and space for creativity in my life.

Oh, I’ve seen You’ve Got Mail lots of times. I like it. But they’re two different animals. Thanks, Kathy.
i like “you’ve got mail”, too (though i thought they rushed the ending), but tend to favor the original of any movie re-made.

Me too. Thanks, Kathy!
I’ve never seen Shop Around the Corner but I want to. Will look for it at the library. Woke up to rain…for the next 5 days or so. Glad we did garden chores over the weekend. Enjoy your time on the porch, Claudia! (How’s your back?)
The back is up and down.
Yay for the sunshine! We are on Day 2 of sunny enjoyment! On Monday the forecast was for the 70’s and sun through the weekend….. of course now the rain is to start tomorrow and last through Monday. Let us hope they are wrong again.
Hope you enjoy some quiet time on your porch reading today and hope your back is feeling better!
Yes, we have rain coming tonight. Of course.
Back is up and down.
Enjoy the sunshine while you can. Ours is only here through today…unless the forecast changes, which seems to change depending on which forecaster happens to be on at the moment.
Enjoy your porch time! How’s your back? ;)
Back is up and down. But it’s sunny today! (Rain on the way this evening, of course.)
Of course…ours starts in the morning….of course. Glad to hear your back is doing a little better. ;)
Thank you!
Having a light drizzle in my neighborhood, but I don’t mind — warm enough to wear a light jacket or sweater and not so wet out. The news mentioned perhaps Tahoe will have some wet snow! My weather-app says they will potentially have several days of snow.
I enjoy hearing about your film viewings. A newer non-cable channel had a film-noir day last week, what probably years ago were called B-Films. One I caught was Backfire – Gordon MacRae (yes, really), Virginia Mayo, Viveca Lindfors, and Edmond O’Brien.
Hoping you and your back have a lovely day on the porch.
Oh, we’ll keep a look out for it, Martha. I love a good film noir! Thanks!
I too have that unfamiliar yellow shining bright orb in a blue colored sky. With you saying it is the sun I guess it must be. How delightful!
I worked on my patio yesterday. Swept up tons of leaves, pulled away some weeds, got some planting containers ready, set up the table and chairs, figured out the umbrella, and stood up the flamingo couple. I went into the house for some water. Came back out ready to enjoy the rest of the day outside. To…you guessed it,,, Rain!
It rained all night, but it surely did make the green pop out today. Like you I am impatient. And I am weeks behind you.
I forgot to mention Shop Around the Corner. It is one of my very favorite movies. You can not go wrong with that acting combination.
You’re so right, Trudy!
I know! All of you readers who live in the upper Midwest are way behind. You must be so frustrated!
Watched it , too!
Great alternative to all the political garbage on tv!
You’re not kidding!
It was a perfect Spring day here. Sunny, not too hot and a slight breeze. I need to get out and take photos of all the plants that John has planted. Fresh herbs and tomatoes to come we hope. I hope your day was a good one.
Sounds like your dinner menus are going to benefit from John’s plantings!
I’m SO GLAD you had a day of sunny skies! it can do wonders for the moral.
we’re just like plants. we need things in balance. and you’ve had too much of the other!
I also watched the Shop Around the Corner. I just LOVE IT! I watch it any time of year.
agreed. a great day.
we had two days of sun and are going to have two days of severe storms starting tomorrow night!
stay strong!
and maybe it would be good to invest in one of those light lamps or whatever they are. what could it hurt? and it might make all the difference for you!
it’s a serious condition for a lot of people’s quality of life.
hahaha! how is your moral? good grief. morale.
and the more I type it the less it looks like ANY kind of word!!!
That happens to me all the time!
I’ve thought of investing in one for the winter. My friend Rick and I were talking about it. I don’t really need it in the spring, since most springs are sunnier than this one has been. Thanks, Tammy!
Time on the porch sounds perfect. xo Laura
Couldn’t do it yesterday but I’m definitely doing it today. Thanks, Laura.
I love Shop Around the Corner — but I think I love “She Loves Me” even more. Either way, wonderful.
Glad you are getting our sun. I think another day might be coming your way!
I like She Loves Me (I started out acting and singing in musical theater and if only for the fact that Barbara Cook – my favorite singer – was in the original production, it’s a winner). But somehow, nothing has topped The Shop Around the Corner for me!
