Ta Dah!

April 7, 2010 at 9:45 am by Claudia

My first bunny sighting – shot through the kitchen window screen. This is a little guy! I love, love seeing the bunnies on the property – they have a home in our woods. I also saw one of the groundhogs/woodchucks who live under our shed. He was dining on our grass – they are vegetarians, did you know? Just like me.

I finished the last 3 squares last night:

Left to right: an egg cup with an egg, McCoy pottery with yellow roses and forsythia, and my initials and the year.

Here’s the whole 39 (really 40) Squares project:

I’m going to try and get a better photo but this will do for now. What fun this was – I’m already thinking of stitching one with Don in mind. I’m also doing Teresa McFayden’s Freestyle Embroidery EZine, but I will hold off working on that until I am in San Diego. Yes, embroidery floss and sewing basket will be packed up and shipped to San Diego. I have to have something to work on and I think these little embroidery projects are the perfect creative outlet.

I think I will take my 39 Squares project with me. It reminds me of home and everything I love. Perhaps I can find a frame at one of my favorite shops.

Some of you have asked why I will be away so long and why San Diego. I will be the Voice/Speech/Dialect coach for the Shakespeare Summer Repertory at the Old Globe for the third year in a row. I will be out in San Diego for 10 weeks. A long time – but not as long as last year, when I also taught for a semester – that involved a six month stay. Don and I used to live in San Diego – I worked at the Globe for eight years. I have many friends there, as well as Don’s family. Nevertheless, I still don’t want to leave Don, Scout, Riley and MHC.

I will be blogging from what I call MHC West – sharing some of my favorite antique stores and barn sales. Oh, there is so much eye candy out there!

I’m off to pack some boxes for shipping to San Diego.

Your sampler is lovely! It will be a wonderful reminder of home, too. I’ve really enjoyed seeing everyone’s squares develop over the last weeks. That was a wonderful idea that Amy came up with.

    Safe journey Claudia!

Bunnies! We have them on our property too! I cannot believe you were able to capture his picture so quickly! Our dart about so quickly, I doubt I could get a picture! :)

Your heading back to Cali reminds me of when we first “met” online last year — I think you ordered a pillow? So, it’s been a year! Wow! Time flies — when you’re having FUN! And it’s definitely been fun knowing you!! :)

Spectacular, honey! Your embroidery had a very unique perspective with your theater arts background and I’ve enjoyed watching it come to fruition.

Back from a very tiring trip to Seattle and trying to still catch up on th’ blogs. Uuuughhhh!!!!

    Hey Girlfriend,

Your stitchery is amazing, and definately something to be proud of.

I love San Diego, but then there’s not much I don’t like about California, except living there! I used to live in a small town called Visalia, somewhere between Fresno and Selma, the raisin capital of the world!

    Have a great day,
    Meri

Dear Claudia, I am thrilled to discover your beautiful blog and your cottage! I have had such fun looking at your vintage treasures. My family owes such a dept of appreciation to Theater Professors. My son has been a back stage techie since the sixth grade. Graduating with a major in theater,he recently wed on the stage of his college. Our family has a special fondness for anything theater related. Well if one has to be away from home and garden, San Diego’s not a bad place to stay! Know you’ll be working hard but hope you get plenty of time to enjoy that lovely area.

Sorry to hear of your recent losses – good friends are surely missed.

That’s a cute bunny but I know what he’s after, your new crisp green plants shooting up fast these Spring days! I have them too.

Safe journey dear – keep us up to date on your California travels.

I am looking forward to your posts from San Diego. Actually you will be closer to me now than when you are on the east coast. I love your embroidery. I just started to do some embroidery. I have a question, how do you keep your floss from fraying? I watched a youtube tutorial, but my floss keeps fraying or shedding. What am I doing wrong?? Have a safe trip. Keep posting, I’m hooked on your blog now.

I hope your stay in San Diego doesn’t seem as long as it really is. I know you will enjoy seeing your old friends and being back where you used to live. Perhaps Don will be able to visit you while you are there.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
