Thank You & the Living Room

September 14, 2010 at 12:42 pm by Claudia

Thank you. For being my friends. Your loving, supportive, caring comments mean the world to me. Please know that I carry each and every one of you in my heart.

Yesterday, we had a big, sudden thunderstorm in the late afternoon. I heard something hitting the house and realized it was hail. We ran out to the porch and watched the little perfectly round pieces of ice hit the ground all around us. The storm was short-lived but tempestuous. I love a sudden storm.

I thought I’d share the other end of the living room with you:

We bought the tiger oak sideboard when we moved into our first place together in San Diego. It’s heavy. The large cupboard was one of my favorite auction finds ever.  It has lots of shelves inside that store all kinds of supplies, phone books, receipts, wrapping paper. At the moment they are a tad messy. That’s green McCoy pottery on top. What else would it be? The two paintings by the front door are very special. The one on top is of Mockingbird Hill Cottage and was painted by my father. The one below is of my grandmother’s childhood home in Canada and was painted by my great-aunt Ruth.

The french doors lead two steps down into our den. That’s where we watch television and where I usually sit with my laptop (which you can see if you look closely.) And there’s the piano on the right. Snug quarters, that’s for sure. I didn’t do any staging for this photo – what you see is what I saw. Thank goodness there were no piles of folded laundry on the chairs, as is quite often the case.

Jill from Little Nest Studio sent me a note about a Vintage Spode pattern named Claudia. Oh no. I love it. That spells trouble, if you know what a pottery and china lover I am. And now the hunt begins.

Lovely! What a warm, cozy place to be, storm or not . . . but there is nothing like a storm to make a home feel even more safe, cozy, and warm.

And no staging — I’m impressed!

    Claudia,
What a lovely room. Love the McCoy on top of the cabinet. I have picked up a couple small pieces this summer and one Roseville vase – all for Florida posts.

The Spode is gorgeous – I love it. Hope you have good luck finding it. My Pink Saturday post this week mentions your name!

    Take care, my friend.

Can I come and sit and knit with you in your cozy house? Lovely post about Mom yesterday. You are very much alike but your spirit has always been lighter than Mom’s. It is still hard to watch her give up a little at a time over a long period of time.

    Love and miss you,

I love your living room Claudia, it looks so welcoming! I feel like I could walk in and feel right at home. So many homes these days are gorgeous but pretentious and not the least bit comfortable, as if no one “really” lives there. Have a wonderful afternoon, Nan
    PS: love the “Claudia” china!

I heard there were hail storms yesterday! We only had a quick severe thunderstorm here though…had to run out and get my packing boxes really fast so I didn’t get drenched…hehe!

Your living room is a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e! Love it!

Thanks so much for the sweet comments you leave for me…they make my day!

    Hi Claudia Sweetie…
What a beautiful share. I loved strolling through the house today. Your room is so warm and so inviting. Just gorgeous, and I love the french doors that open into the den. Don’t you just love step downs? I think they make such a grand statement.

I continue to pray for your sweet Moma. I hope today was a little better.

Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

    Hi Claudia,
Your living room is so cute and little den so cozy. Your rooms make me want to get up and move things around (which is the biggest compliment I could give you as it only happens with homes I am inspired by). Love the items on the coffee table too, is there candy in the dish?

    Have a nice night!

Oh, how I love a good storm. Love. It. I love to cozy in with my favorite quilt, a cuppa somethin’ warm, and a good book or movie (Often Pride & Prejudice, of course!). Your home looks so cozy and inviting. I love that you didn’t stage it. It’s perfect just as it is.
I’m so thrilled that you love the Claudia pattern. When I first spotted it, I thought, “That has her name all over it…literally!” So pretty!

    Hi Claudia…

Oh my gosh…. I had pictured exactly this in my mind’s eye.. Cozy, sunny and totally charming. I ADORE that big white cabinet. I sure could use it at my little cottage. :-)

The handpainted house pictures are treasures for sure. I painted my daughter’s house for her in watercolor. I hadn’t done any since high school and it sure looks like it…. Oh well, she liked it.

    Huggies!

Claudia, Both of those side chairs look good for a comfortable sit! The wide arms on the wood one would hold my cup of tea nicely. This room looks just as I imagined your home would be–colorful and inviting. So exciting to find china in your name! I collect Charlotte dishes because that is my daughter’s name–I did a table with one of the patterns tonight. It’s fun to go on the hunt. Linda

My mum has a coffee table just like yours. My grandpa had cut it down and then gave it to her when she asked for it. It’s one of her prized treasures.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
