The Big Corral Fizzle & The Egg Cup Finale

March 30, 2015 at 9:11 am by Claudia

I don’t want to dwell on this, but, as I write this, there is a dusting of snow on the ground.

I can’t go there.

Besides, it’s going up to 53° so it will be gone shortly.

Nevertheless….enough already.

So, yesterday I was determined to open up the big corral for Scout. I enlisted my husband and we picked up all the dog poop that had been under the snow. Then we put straw down everywhere there was mud. Then we moved the bench that blocked the entrance.

I grabbed my camera. Don got his iPhone ready to record video. (Yes, we’re nuts.)

We let her out.

As you can see, she wasn’t sure what to do. We encouraged her. “Go on!”

She walked around a small area. We walked up the hill, ready to record the momentous event. While we were talking to each other, we didn’t notice that she’d walked back down the hill and into the house.

Clearly, she wasn’t as excited as we were.

That’s what I get for planning the ‘big event.’

Later on, she did explore a bit more. I think she was sleepy the first time. She now seems to like going back and forth between her corrals. Her kingdom has become even bigger. There will be no stopping her Dameship.

Just a few more egg cups for this 2015 Finale.

1.  Oh, how I love this cup. The bunny rabbit as painter. Yes, you’re right if you’re thinking this was a middle of the night eBay bidding frenzy. You see why, don’t you? The painter’s smock, the palette, the face painted on the egg…who could resist? (I haven’t seen this one on eBay or Etsy for a long, long time.) One of my favorites. Marked: Japan.

2.  Truth in advertising: this isn’t an egg cup. I think it’s a toothpick holder. But I consider it part of the egg cup collection. So let’s just pretend it’s an egg cup. First of all, that cheruby face kills me. Then the little green hat, the clown-like clothing, the cracked egg…I adore it. Marked: Japan.

And finally, from my dear friend Judy, this series of four bucket egg cups. When that package arrived at my door a couple of years ago and I opened it, I squealed. Truly. And then I laughed out loud. For aren’t these the perfect words for egg cups? They never fail to make me smile and they’re on display in our kitchen on a little shelf. Love them.

There you go, my friends. The annual tour is over. Though I have some egg cups coming in the mail, so more will be revealed. Recently, I’ve seen some of the cups in my collection online on eBay and Etsy. If you’re at all interested, I can try to provide the links tomorrow. But you have to let me know, okay? It takes time to scroll through all the auctions.

New post up on Just Let Me Finish This Page.

Happy Monday.

Must be so confusing to Scout who has been cooped up for so long and not able to roam around like that. On a nice sunny day, she’ll figure it out. Sure hope things will warm up and continue that way here very soon. Your egg cup collection is absolutely wonderful! Have a great week. Tammy

I have indeed wondered if Winter will every loosen his grip and let Spring arrive! I was awoken this morning at 5 AM to the sound of freezing rain. At first I thought I must be dreaming but no it really was hitting my window. I just couldn’t bear to look!

I absolutely love these two egg cups in your first photo. Adorable faces all three!

Winter just doesn’t want to seem to leave! Go away, Winter. We’re all sick of you!
Freezing rain is not at all fun, Kim. So sorry!

I can identify w/ sweet Scout. We aren’t quite ready to trust that we actually CAN roam a bit more after the Winter snow and cold. Being confined, we simply get used to it and consider it our new normal. Then the gate opens and we are a bit cautious. She is a wise, wise soul. :-) But you have always known that. Ignore that “s” stuff and it WILL go away.

Pets, like children, never do what you want them to do, when you want them to do it…it’s fact! Had a good laugh over that…thanks! I can totally see how egg cup collecting could become an obsession…can’t wait to see your new additions! Enjoy the warmth predicted…we already have a window open! ;)

We did have glorious sunshine…but now the clouds have settled in for the day. But, I could smell spring in the air…so could Bowser! ;)

I do love the egg cup tour. I only have 4 egg cups, but I do have a lot of toppers/cozies for them. I love making the cozies!
I am glad the Dame has her kingdom back in order. Hopefully the weather will be actually springy (is that a real word?) from now on.
    Hugs all around :)

Spring seems to be reluctant to visit the Northeast, Deb. How many invitations do you think we’ll have to extend until it finally comes?

Scout is such a girl! Doing what she wants in her own time of course! I’m sure she enjoys the larger space! Love the rest of the egg cups! I look forward to seeing your new additions. I shared my two new egg cups on my blog post today.

Thanks Claudia! For some reason your comments do not come to my inbox ?? I love that turquoise of the Harlequin egg cup also! Oh a nice Fiesta egg cup is on my ‘wish list’ but always so pricey for me.

Another Blogger blogger said the same thing. I can only surmise it has something to do with me being on WordPress. It’s never been a problem at all until the past couple of weeks.

LOVE the little white “which-came-first” cups – really, really cute. Now, like a song that gets stuck in my head, for the next few days I’ll be thinking of other little sayings that could go on a set of cups. I vote for “a tour through the egg cups” every year before Easter. For new stories and the golden oldies too! Enjoy your day!

Scout will enjoy her outdoor excursions more and more. I think it’s funny how you were so excited for her, and she was a little more reserved. It’s like me finding a new toy for my cat and she’s thinking it’s not as fun and entertaining as I thought it would be. She prefers the aluminum foil balls. Looking forward to your new egg cups purchases.

I love seeing this tour… I like the words on the little buckets… from Judy. Appropriate for egg cups for sure.
I didn’t get a chance to comment on yesterdays eggs… but I recall the little bald guy… eggless/headless… that’s too funny. All very cute.
I never grow tired of seeing them.
Scout doesn’t look like she knows what to think about all the extra space… and no privacy, with cameras! She sure fooled y’all!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
