On Monday night, the local weather guys (who are great) announced that, contrary to the original predictions, the storm was tracking much further south and our area of the Hudson Valley would not be getting the predicgted foot of snow, but more likely a few inches. It was a dramatic change in the forecast.
Don was disappointed. He loves the idea of a blizzard or a big storm. It’s the ‘event,’ the power of Mother Nature, the idea of being cozily ensconced in our cottage while snow swirls outside.
I was relieved. In the end, we got about 2 inches of snow and it looked very pretty outside. Don got to take a walk up in the woods in a magical snow covered world. He loved it. And he acknowledged that he was glad we didn’t get more. We dodged a bullet.
A photo from yesterday morning:
It was a wet snow, so it would have been a pain to shovel. We haven’t had to shovel at all, thank goodness. Today is very windy, as often happens in the aftermath of a storm.
Areas to the south of us, like NYC, got more snow than we did. Snow in NYC is always magical.
Per Don’s request, I made french toast yesterday as a special “watching the snow fall” treat. Yummy!
Oh, before I forget – or maybe I’ve said this already – Etsy made me a Seller of the Month for February, as well. But I’m running out of things I want to sell, so it may not continue next month.
In typical fashion, neither of us remembered that it’s Valentines Day today.
This hat was made by a woman who lives in NYC. I fell in love with this pattern – she calls it the Bubble hat. It arrived on Monday. Truly the best hat for Blythe yet. It fits her head shape perfectly. Also arriving in the same postal delivery, this little handmade bear. A friend of mine in England put it up for sale, when she realized that she already owned 3 of these little guys and didn’t need another one. He didn’t come with the boots; I put them on his furry mohair feet – an idea I stole from lots of little bear owners on my Blythe feed.
I named him Derek. Don’t ask me why, it just came to me.
You have to play with him a bit to get him to stand on his own, but it can be done.
Okay. Don and I just said Happy Valentines Day to each other. Since we say I love you several times a day, every day, we’re cool.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

Such a pretty picture of your snow storm that wasn’t. I can understand Don’s disappointment but at least he had French toast to make things better. Is that Pippa looking so cute in her new bobble hat? She looks like she’s saying, “How could you forget Valentine’s Day?” But all is well. Love is there every day. You and Don enjoy your “snow” day. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
That’s Pippa!
Thanks so much, Elaine!
Stay safe.

From the pictures, it looks like you got at least 6 inches of snow…must be the ‘wet snow’ effect. Happy to hear no shovels were needed. We are to get a wet 1-3 today. I’m expecting and hoping that it will melt on contact. Dare I hope we’ll be that lucky?
Darling hat…and Derek is a cutie. If love abounds, everyday is Valentine’s Day I believe. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
It’s cold and windy today, so the snow won’t melt any more than it has. Still pretty!
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Well, SO glad you didn’t get a DANGEROUS blizzard as what I’d seen projected on the national news. Also, love the bubble hat (with bear!).
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Claudia says
Others did, just not us.
Thanks so much, Vicki.
Stay safe.

Well, North Jersey apparently got your snow! We have about 7 inches, but I have no complaints due to the crew that completely cleaned roads, driveways and the sidewalk right up to my front door. We live in a townhouse now and the landscape and snow removal crews are awesome.
Now, that little bear….adorably cute! Enjoy!
Claudia says
Makes sense since you’re south of us and that was the area that was going to get hit.
Stay safe, Judy.
Kay in SE Wisconsin says
Glad you missed out on the blizzard. I agree with Don that when everyone is safe at home it feels nice and cozy to watch a bad snowstorm do it’s thing. But when you just get a few inches of the really wet stuff it makes much prettier pictures as it sticks to every surface.
Congratulations on the Etsy honor. And that little bear is precious.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
I’m crazy about little Derek!
Stay safe, Kay.

Claudia, that’s a very snowy photo, glad you didn’t get all that was expected. I love Don’s idea of a special treat to watch all that snow, and French toast was a perfect choice! Stay cozy!
Claudia says
We will. Very windy and cold today!
Stay safe, Barrie.

glad you didn’t get so much snow this time. it’s beautiful! french toast sounds delicious.
my sister tried to teach me how to knit bobbles like those on the cute green hat, but i haven’t been able to get it right yet. will keep trying so i can add some to the hats i knit.
and derek the bear is adorable!
osteoporosis appointment and shot yesterday. don’t know the lab results yet that affect bones, but am grateful to only get these shots twice a year instead of two each month for a year (as i did after my back broke in four places). hopefully that means progress, plus it makes my schedule easier.
colder here today by maybe close to 20 degrees, but i am fine with that. i want winter to be winter.
otherwise not much to call news here and i’m good with that, too. looking for more ease. hope that’s what you all have … easy days spent to your liking. easy weather, too.
kathy
Claudia says
I never learned to knit bobbles for some reason!
Thanks so much, Kathy.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day together, Claudia and Don, even though I know you don’t need a designated day on the calendar to celebrate your love for one another.
Claudia says
Thank you, Wendy.
Happy Valentines Day.

The bear with the boots is just crazy cute!

He’s pretty adorable!
Stay safe, Jenny.

That looks just like the right amount of snow — enough that it won’t last but look pretty while it’s there. LOVING that cute hat and the bear is adorable!
Claudia says
That entire photo is full of adorableness.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

The snow photos are so pretty but I’m glad I don’t live in it. My ex-husband and I wished each other Happy Valentine’s Day as I drove him to a Dr’s appointment. He had back surgery a couple of weeks ago and is doing well. Slow going and lots of pain meds so he can’t drive yet. He has another appointment tomorrow with the Surgeon but Sara will take him to that. Tomorrow is his birthday also. I’m so glad he lives close by now and we are family and take care of each other!! Hugs!
Claudia says
I’m so glad you are still close and supportive of each other, Linda.
Stay safe.

Beautiful photos of the girls and their friends. I am glad you didn’t get too much snow. Funny but we watched the Super Bowl which is unusual for us.
Be cozy.
Claudia says
We will!
Thank you, Kay.

Hi Claudia, my mom would never get behind on your blogs, but I have been a bit. My mom died a year ago on Family Day (do you have that day in the US). Anyways, along with my closest cousin passing away just a few weeks, I’m grieving big time.
I have to say that I loved the photo on the beach with you and your love. Beautiful.
I really like that that green hat with the bobbles. You have quite a knack for dressing your Bylthe dollies. My girl Ariel finally has glasses which she very much needed. Unfortunately I ordered shoes and they don’t fit the girls. That’s crappy. I haven’t ordered anything lately.
I’d better get supper on, it’s that time again. Take care…
Claudia says
No, we don’t have Family Day, Irene. Thinking of you as you remember your mom and your cousin.
Thank you.
Stay safe.
