The Calm Before the Storm

March 6, 2018 at 7:59 am by Claudia

Ironically, the sun is flooding the house with light this morning. It’s beautiful.

Ironic because tomorrow we’re getting a major winter storm (another nor’easter) with anywhere from 8 to 16 inches of snow. I guess Mother Nature figures she’ll give us a little sun before she blasts us.

I’m dreading it. But, my dread is nothing compared to what many people in the Hudson Valley must be feeling because thousands of them are still without power from Friday’s storm. I can’t imagine being in the middle of a ongoing loss of power and knowing that a huge winter storm is coming your way. Or how the crews from Central Hudson and other power providers must feel. They’ve been working non-stop since Friday.

Hey, March: so far, you’ve really sucked and we’re only 6 days in.

I’ve texted the guy who plows for us to confirm that I will need his services. While that will help enormously, I’ll still have to do a lot of shoveling. Oh joy.

Anyway, today I’m running errands, including a trip to the grocery store for provisions. I’ve also got a coaching session via FaceTime. A busy day.

I’ve been putting off shopping for an opening night dress and now I’m going to lose at least two days, so I’m regretting my inaction. Opening night is just 9 days away. Gulp.

I’ll leave you with another photo from this morning. Such pretty light!

Happy Tuesday.

best wishes on getting the errands run before the storm and for (after the storm) finding just the right outfit you want to wear for opening night – and that the storm isn’t a nor’easter but one last and little snowfall before spring arrives.

glad you have that pretty sunlight. that helps some, doesn’t it? hope so.

    hang in there!

No, it’s definitely a nor’easter. Less wind than last week, but it will be windy. Thanks, Kathy!

sorry, especially for the upgraded snowfall totals. hope everyone has/keeps power and warmth …

glad you are stocked up, have someone to plow at least the driveway.

        stay safe!

ps (since i don’t have an instagram account, i’ll tell you here): i like that view of your den with the pretty mint-colored table and rug … and all those books!

I am not looking forward to more snow, thankfully it appears we’ve been downgraded to about 4-6″.

I LOVE That last plant and it’s “design”.

Claudia, My tummy hurt just watching the weather report for the northeast. I know it’s a mess and more snow…too scary. I will be praying for all of you. Your sunny picture are up lifting. I am so ready for some calm warm days. I know you are also. Stay safe. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

I love sunlight and green plants this time of year. Sometimes I just hang out at my favorite nursery. A French bistro is located in the nursery’s green house and during the winter months it is one of my favorite spots. We just had another big snowfall, though nothing as serious as those of you out East are experiencing. Hang in there and stay safe!

Take care during the storm. Glad you are getting provisions. And I bet you have a wonderful dress (or outfit) already hanging in your closet for the opening night. We all love new clothes for those special occasions, but Mother Nature is saying no for now. I bet you can find something after the storm is over. At this time of year the snow won’t last for long on the ground and you will be able to find that new, stunning dress right before the opening night.

Enjoy the day and yes get ready for the storm. Yesterday was so nice and it’s raining like crazy today (a Southern storm I guess). Good day to just stay in and play around the house. Annie Belle is curled up in her snuggley bed and I’m on my 2nd cup of coffee today! Hugs.

you do know that as much as you are literally adored by one of the stars in the show . . .
you could show up at the opening in burlap and he would be thrilled!
and as Thoreau said . . . “beware of any event that calls for new clothes!”
and the sunshine streaming into your kitchen . . . WOW!

Oh, Claudia. We had a lovely sunny day on Sunday ~~ and the snow hit yesterday. Thankfully we only got about 4 inches. Schools had a 2 hr delay. So over it. I will hope that it gets blown out to sea and misses you. My hubs said it is a very heavy wet snow ~ the kind they call heart attack snow. So BE CAREFUL!!!! A lot of ours is melting already because of the warmer temps we have had the past 10 days or so.

Hope you have luck finding something to wear. That is a task I absolutely dread. But the occasion will certainly be worth it!!!! Enjoy your Tuesday, and hope you get all of your tasks accomplished.

Ours will be heavy and wet as well. When I start to shovel, I take it very slow and frequent breaks as well. Thanks Chris.

8-16? No! Enough I say! ( you can see how much influence I have). We only got 4 inches…it’s melting already. But last night it was a mini blizzard. I’m optimistic that you will find something to wear…have you looked online? That at least might get you an idea of what you might like to find. Oh…happy days! ;)

I feel so bad for you. At least that fellow can plow your drive, so that will be a help. But, you’ve still got a lot to shovel I’m sure. Our cranes came back last week…food is going to be scarce for them til this snow melts. Guess their timing was off. ;)

Claudia, I’m glad you’re preparing for the storm by getting provisions. How naughty of Mother Nature to tease you with such fantastic sunlight before the big storm. I wish you lived nearby so you could take my houseplants! I know you’d take care of them. I have them all sequestered on the ledge in my shower because my cats won’t leave them alone. At least the plants get lots of light from the south facing window and a nice steam shower regularly. Today is a worry day…just returned from taking my kitty to the vet for her oral surgery. Surgery is scheduled for noon. I’m anxiously awaiting for the call to tell me to go get her!

March has been a lousy month weather wise so far. We are going to receive 5-12 inches. They are saying if it goes closer to the coast, Long Island will get less. We live near Long Island so I am keeping my fingers crossed for the less snow. Went to the store to stock up on some food. Stay safe.

Well the snow has started here Claudia…at first it was light and didn’t last but now it is heavy and laying on everything….I don’t know yet how much we are expecting…I’m hoping it is not as much as you are…yikes!…maybe it’s better if I don’t know…lol….I hate shopping for something to wear for a special occasion…it always seems that is the time you can’t find anything that you really love and are happy with…Good luck when you finally get out there hunting!

My youngest sister has said for YEARS: “If there was one month a year that I could completely eliminate from the calendar, it would be March…” She’s right too. Because we always seem to get the yuckiest storms in March. And the snow is almost always that heavy snowball-type snow that’s especially difficult to deal with. I think what REALLY makes these storms all the worse is that they come when we are so very tired of Gray and Brown and Cold and Inside and Dreary – Winter. Now we prepare to batten down the hatches again. Sigh. Oh well at least we ARE coming to the end of things. Imagine feeling this way in December? Super bummer. Hope this one is the last one til next year. Peace.

Oh my I can’t imagine what it’s like to have snow storms like that Claudia. Here in England we had four days of snow last week, the first appreciable amount of snow in many years, and everything ground to a halt. The children loved it! It’s raining again now of course! Stay safe and warm Claudia.
