I hope you won’t mind this announcement:
The bathroom tub has been re-caulked!!!!!
Late in the morning yesterday (should have started a little earlier) I decided that there would never be a good time to remove all the crappy caulk and re-caulk the tub, so I dove in. I just wanted to get it done. It was a mess, of course, and the hardest part was removing the caulk. I used the tool I have as well as a scraper. So, for a couple of hours, I was on my knees, hunched over the tub, constantly scraping and – let’s face it – swearing. But I finally got all of it removed and I gathered up the old sheet I had placed in the bottom of the tub to catch all the debris and threw it in a trash bag. (Unfortunately, the scraper went along with it – so I’ll be buying a new one.) I took a break to let everything dry. In the meantime, we couldn’t get the old container of caulk out of the caulk gun. It took both of us to wrestle that thing out of there – it was quite the struggle.
Then, I sat in the tub and caulked. Unfortunately, I discovered I had purchased CLEAR caulk instead of white caulk. Darn it! Don handed me my tools when I needed them – he was my assistant. Anyway, it’s done after three years of saying I needed to redo the whole thing but not doing it. We decided that we’ll buy a tube of white caulk next week and add another layer so that the tub looks “finished.”
Now we have to wait until 3 pm today to take a shower because the caulk has to cure for 24 hours.
And, as expected, my back, shoulders, neck, and right hand are very sore. But I’m so happy it’s done and it was worth it. I’m tired, so waiting for a shower will be no big deal.
Today, I rest.
This girl is one cool customer.
The coat and jeans were made by a woman in China. I love them! In fact, I’d love that coat for myself. I used to have one in gray that was very much like it. Every time I wore it, I got compliments. (I was much younger then.) Now, my girl is continuing the tradition….cue a tiny little tear rolling down my cheek.
There’s a very thin layer of snow on the ground this morning, but it will rain later and it will all go away. This promises to be a bit of a crazy weather week. Up, down, rain, ice, snow. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

That sounds like quite the job, I can imagine how satisfying it is to have it done! Perseverance is key! It’s always so fun to see the clothes you have for the girls…and amazing to think how those small pieces are made!
Claudia says
I don’t know how they do it!
Stay safe, Barrie.

Three cheers! It always feels so good, so accomplished to finish such a big job. Your back and knees must have been killing you and I bet a shower never felt so good!
Claudia says
Haven’t had the shower yet. You have to wait 24 hours for the caulk to cure, so not until 3 pm today.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

congratulations on a big chore well done … and having the perseverance to do such an unpleasant thing.
glad you can rest today. hope you feel better soon after all that hard work.
same variable weather here. six-plus inches of snow fell over twelve hours last thursday … it was beautiful and i loved it. so sunny and warm by saturday meant all that snow is gone and i’ve since had “spring fever”. tomorrow and thursday we are to get more snow and that awful winter-y mix of ice, sleet and rain that could freeze. except as a kid living with my family in mississippi for a few years, i’ve always lived where there’s an obvious change of seasons and always will, icy times included. they’re all beautiful in their own ways; just have to be prepared, right? (i’ll be getting more ice-melt today).
hope you, don and everyone else have a great day. stay safe!
kathy
Claudia says
Yes, we have some of that sleet and ice coming this week. That is never welcome. Yes, get that ice melt!
Stay safe, Kathy.

Kudos to you and cheer-leading Don for getting the tub caulked. Hard work, indeed. You’ll enjoy that 3:00 shower. Mei looks adorable in her cute jeans and coat. Love the little toggles on the coat. So sweet. She’ll be all ready for the wintry weather we’re supposed to get tomorrow. Stay warm and cozy. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Those are spoiled! They rarely have to go out in bad weather.
Stay safe, Elaine.

Personally, I think swearing is an essential step in DIY. It must be such a relief to have it done.
Donnamae says
Ha! Yes…a little or allot depending on the size of the project. ;)
Claudia says
It is absolutely essential! It is a great relief and that shower today – around 3:30 – felt good!
Stay safe, Lynda.

dear Claudia/Don — glad your ‘labor’ was successful — I even hate cleaning the tubs usually end up falling in or sliding into the tub–quite a sight to see, haha!! all your girls are so cute — they seem to have unlimited clothing–are they ‘fashionistas’???? love them!! hope your weather is not too bad–I really hate freezing rain–snow is not so bad–ready for spring here. stay safe/healthy
Claudia says
They do not have unlimited clothing! And they have to share everything. Those are the rules. (I also love mix and matching with other pieces of clothing.
I, on the other hand, have nothing but jeans and t-shirts!
Stay safe, Linda.

I love your girl’s nubby sweater!
Caulking is a hard job; congrats; good feeling of accomplishment. You’ll feel better every time you see it finished; one less thing nagging at you that needs to be done.
I’m grumbly because the trash truck broke down right when he was ready to empty my cans at 7am; now, approaching 1pm PST, dumpster divers are having a field day in the neighborhood with our full cans of plastics/recyclables. It’s not elderly people or anybody needing food scraps; it’s young dudes in hoodies and shades, addicted to drugs and alcohol wanting to turn in the plastics for money (which is supposed to help the CITY coffers, not them). The police are spread too thin to be of any help; small town, not enough law enforcement. I cannot STAND people going thru my trash, especially when they leave a mess. As my husband says though, ‘first world’ problems. Like get things in perspective, Vicki; this is only a minor, temporary irritant!
What really bugs me is that I’m writing a series for a local publication (folky stuff; nothing ambitious or highbrow or professional) and I can’t seem to score any quiet time without interruption or problems. For me, to write, I need QUIET, like a lot of it. But I’m married, have a wild dog, the phone won’t stop ringing, yada-yada-yada. I need a Tiny House/studio in the backyard (not gonna happen, ever). “The solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.” (Albert Einstein) If I don’t have a quiet life and alone time, which I don’t (I am almost NEVER alone these days), my mind is too distracted, and when it’s distracted my creativity goes out the window. I just wish I had better concentration. And no publishing deadlines. Sigh. (Don’t mean that to sound self-important; I’m just a little frustrated today. And I think I’m feeling over-anxious due to impending weather which the forecasters are making sound totally concerning for the next eight or nine days with COLD, rain, snow in low elevations, WIND, big waves at the beach; but I think I already spoke of it. Just can’t help but be another thing to clutter the brain, though!)
Claudia says
Why don’t you go out to a coffee shop and write? Or take a drive to the beach, sit in the car, and write? Better yet, the library? Not a lot of people, has to stay quiet. I see people writing at our library.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Vicki says
Good idea; it’s just that I still distance from people due to my immune system problems, and public health here in Calif just today (for tomorrow’s newspaper edition/Weds) published new warnings of Covid and RSV being on the uptick again, advising to keep to the masks (and hardly anybody wears a mask, but of course I do for my own protection, so maybe that’s all I should worry about). I’m safe enough at the cemetery during the day; I just sit in the car, keep the car doors locked. It’s 25 acres; peaceful. Park the car under a tree for shade when it gets too warm. I think I need a laptop; have never had one; is just easier than scratching out stuff with pen/paper. I can’t wait for a perfect circumstance/setting.
I definitely could try the library; in my other lifetime of YOUTH both in high school and a small amount of college, I always was able to get my homework done in the library so that when I got home I could enjoy being with my family and spend the evening watching TV or reading for fun.
Thanx for the advice. My husband has an acquaintance who is now a published author of police-detective/crime novels (currently working on book 6) in his retirement. He has a lovely-spacious home in a quiet, HOA-controlled/patrolled neighborhood, his kids are grown and out of the house; but he chooses to write at a teeny table in noisy Starbucks with his laptop. I’ve learned that’s somewhat cliche; that more than one writer has a connection with Starbucks and writing there; must be all that good coffee stimulating the brain!

Kudos on a job well done! I tend to put off the big jobs…because they are big jobs. But it always feels good to have it done. Now on to more pleasant things…eh?
Darling coat….looks great on your model. Enjoy the rest of your day! ;)
Claudia says
I do, too. And I put this one off too long. But I guess the pay off is that I’m thrilled to have finally done it.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
