We are incapable of moving. Slugs. Sugared-out.
I said to Don as we returned home from Rick and Doug’s: “I can’t wait to get back to our routine.”
We find that the older we get, the more we cling to our routine – some might say, boring – days. We like them. There’s a comfort in them.
But we had a lovely Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Christmas coffee cake was devoured:
Stella did a bang-up job, as usual.
Presents were exchanged. Records were played.
Eventually, we arrived at Rick and Doug’s for a light repast. Our mutual friend Russ was there as well. Russ made vegetable soup that was delicious! Rick made popovers that were light as a feather. We brought pies – pumpkin and lemon meringue – that we ordered from a local restaurant. We had a lovely time. Then we came home and crashed from too much sugar and watched the Ellen Degeneres stand-up comedy special on Netflix and an episode of Monty Python.
I’m ready to cut out almost all sugar from my diet. It’s time. I go through these phases and I always feel better once I’ve done it. As of January 1st: bye, bye sugar.
Thought you’d like to see a picture of Sam. We love him.
I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate it!
Happy Wednesday.

Oh the sugar hangover is real! I tried to limit my consumption but sometimes all those goodies are just too hard to resist. BUT…once they are gone they are gone. I need a good cleanse for my health also. Enjoy your lazy day.
Claudia says
A good cleanse is desperately needed here, Linda!

You and I are wearing the same jammies! And I love Sam. Have a great week. All I am planning is tea with my sister one afternoon. Sounds about perfect, huh?
Claudia says
It sounds absolutely perfect!
grace says
A comfortable agenda and space to breathe and be after the general frenzy are very much welcome by me as well. Sam is a handsome fellow! Enjoy your Christmastime rest and relaxation!
Claudia says
We are. No music playing. Just quiet. Perfect!

Sounds like, despite the sugar, you had a great day! Back to routine but with some added good memories to cherish.
Here is Canada, today is Boxing Day, like your Black Friday. People get up early and head out for amazing shopping deals. Here at our little cottage, Boxing Day is pyjama day! We sleep in, shower, put on a fresh pair of jammies, watch movies, play with the new toys, eat, nap, eat, laugh, visit …. I think those who shop today are crazy! The holidays should be about time together, not shopping. But hey, that’s just me.
Enjoy your day. We’re watching “Escape to the Country” (British) and watching big flakes fall from the sky. Hoping our son and family can make it out today but that might end up being another day if too much snow falls. Either way, a relaxing time and the start of a nice break until we all return to work on January 8th. A re-energizing break provided by our employers and one we so appreciate each year at this time.
Namaste.
X Chy

I’ve never been one to go shopping on Black Friday or the day after Christmas!
I’ve watched quite a bit of Escape to the Country. Love that show.
Enjoy your day of relaxation, Chy!

Happy Boxing Day, Claudia! Glad you had a lovely time with friends. We visited with Mom and Dad, and managed to get a great big chuckle out of him. He rarely laughs now, so it was so heart-warming to hear the person he had once been. He thoroughly enjoyed the three-cheese mac and cheese we made him and Mom for Christmas lunch. Mom usually eats her meals with Dad at the assisted living facility, but last night, we drove her home and I cooked at home for her. ..My very favorite one-pan roasting of different vegetables and King salmon. Mom hadn’t eaten a home-cooked meals in many many months, just assisted living or restaurant meals. I think she enjoyed her Christmas dinner.
Wishing you fortitude in giving up sugar, and don’t beat yourself up if you indulge slightly once in a while.
Claudia says
So glad your mom got a home cooked meal at home. And that your dad laughed. A priceless Christmas memory, Wendy.

After all the baking this year (I was in the mood to bake), I sure could use a break from sugar myself. I hope you are having a relaxing day. Iβm trying….but canβt seem to sit still for too long…guess Iβve had much sugar! ;)
Claudia says
I bet most of us have had too much sugar!

Great idea about the sugar – I know you’ll be glad you did. For me, it’s carbs and fats. My weakness is breads, potatoes, pastas, noodles & all the fatty delicious toppings we put on them – butter, sour cream, cream cheese, cheese sauces, buttery sauces etc. Once I simply eliminated ADDED fats & lost the equivalent of a small toddler in weight in under a year! I really didn’t change anything else, just ate more “plainly” & I know it can work so that’s my resolution for 2019. Plain Greek yogurt will be my best friend again. It honestly tastes exactly like sour cream – except it’s not so rich – & I love it. So I’m hoping for the best. Enjoy the rest of Christmas week! PS – that coffee cake looks completely awesome. I can smell the cinnamon through the photo. Peace.

Oh gosh, I love potatoes and bread, too! We have baked potatoes all the time, but with vegan butter, not sour cream. Vegan butter is still fattening, though!

glad you had such nice days. may they continue … and sam is a sweetie, for sure!
getting rid of sugar is one of my goals for 2019 and beyond. also starting/finishing four cross-stitch projects for my family, painting more …
good luck and best wishes to everyone making changes and having enough time to rest/relax and for a better, brighter year ahead for everyone!

Thank you, Kathy! I cut way back on the sugar yesterday and will phase it out after the 1st.

My sugar goes January 2. I’m almost at the point that I don’t ever want to see it again. This too will pass…
Looks lovely!
Claudia says
I’m almost to that point, as well! Not quite, but getting there.
tammy j says
HA! my sentiments exactly! I managed to give most of it away in beautiful little Christmas tins.
but my downfall is sweet breads and muffins. and chocolate truffles. oh. and pie! well.
not hard to tell I need to make a clean sweep of all things sweet!
I have already decided on the ‘inner’ work I want to accomplish in the new year. I’ll add sugar detox to the mix. among the inner work is to learn to be content here where I used to bloom. LOL!
and to not use so many exclamation points and LOL’s.
sending love to that beautiful sweet Sam! he’s a keeper. I could hug him right now!
ok. getting all those exclamation points out of my system before new year’s. xoxo
Claudia says
I have pie in the fridge, cookies in a tin on the counter and chocolates galore. Oh my! I have to move some of this sweet stuff out of here!
I use far too many exclamation points, as well! See? I just did it!
tammy j says
LOL!

I don’t bake much anymore except for the holidays and then I use sweetener instead of sugar in pumpkin and banana breads and cookies..taste just as good to me! Good to see Sam again!!

He’s such a cutie!

Okay….I missed something in all the hustle and bustle. Who is Sam? He’s adorable!! And I love your jammies :)

Sam is Rick and Doug’s dog. We adore him!
