The Day of Reckoning

February 27, 2023 at 8:29 am by Claudia

Well, here we are. We’ve left a couple of messages about the urgency of an oil delivery. We originally called last Thursday, but…the weekend screwed things up. I’m going to make Don call again in a few minutes.

And the service technician is coming to look at the washer. As soon as I’m done here, we’ll take showers and then remove the doors and molding in prep for his arrival. There’s a nice tracking code which we can use to see how many stops away he is. Four stops as of now, but each stop can take an hour or so, so maybe around 11 am?

And then, we just get out of the way while he does his thing.

And we await 5 – 8 inches of snow tonight, another 1 – 3 inches tomorrow morning….and wait…the same thing on Friday. I have been telling Don all along that we’d get walloped in March. Sigh. We need the snowpack for our water table, so it’s a good thing in the long run. It’s just not something you want to see in March.

All of the above on the same day.

Ah, well.

Please cross your fingers that this thing with the washer is something we can get fixed.

And that oil is delivered. Today.

I won’t share a photo of me in pajamas, a hooded sweatshirt, and a wool cap. I’ll spare you that.

Edited: The oil is coming today. Whew!

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I bet you look cute! Hope your oil gets delivered today and your washer gets fixed. We’re supposed to get the snow today, too, starting around noon. We’re paying for our mild winter, it seems. But March arrives on Wednesday and somehow March sounds warmer than February. Hope everything works out for you guys today. Hugs, Elaine

Glad to know your oil will be delivered today! And hopefully the washer will be an easy fix. I’ve been dealing with similar issues…. we’re waiting for PGE to schedule a power disconnect/reconnect so that the electrician can update the the old fuse panel…. it’s taking months! Appliances aren’t working like they should, I’ve been going to the laundromat for quite a while… very frustrating! So, I have my fingers crossed that your washer will soon be ready to use! Stay warm….no matter what you have to wear!

oh, that last part (edit) was good to read … that your oil will be delivered today. i am relieved for you so can imagine how much better and warmer you and don will feel!

same good wishes and prayers about the washing machine … repair, not replace. repair, not replace. repair, not replace!

hopefully you get the snow you need, just not all at once (and not dragged out through march) so you can enjoy its beauty and still get around safe.

in the meantime, hope you are staying warm and well about things. are you and don otherwise feeling better? hope so.

    happy, safe monday to everyone.

Keep your older appliances, if possible, they are SOOOO much better than the new ones. It’s really quite sad the junk they make.

We use either natural gas or propane to heat our homes in my area. Is that the same thing as your oil?

No, we use heating oil – very big out here in the east.

      Stay safe, Darlene.

Good luck with all your home repair issues today. I just hate that — the waiting, the wondering, knowing it will be expensive — and essential. Hang in.

Good luck on your washer repair! The reassuring thing is that there is a lot you can repair before you need to replace your appliance. I’m thinking positive thoughts for ya!

Sounds like the Heating Oil gods have smiled on you and your cottage. We are hunkering down for yet another snowstorm here. Great ski season this year, but we are all tired of shoveling snow and will be ready for springtime when it finally makes its debut. I’m glad we don’t live in the higher elevations!

The light coming through the windows definitely promises the seasons are changing if we can just hang in there.

The washer was fixed for under $250.00. The heating oil was delivered 10 minutes after the repairman departed.

All is well. I just need to take a deep breath and calm down.

      Stay safe.

C: I feel your pain on the washing machine repair. I had to replace both my washer and dryer several years ago (maybe 10). They were 30 or 31 years old and they were Sears Kenmore. So I went to Sears to purchase new ones. The Sears salesperson told me not to expect them to last . . . “they don’t make ’em like they used to,” she said, which I thought was an odd thing for a salesperson to say. As it turns out, NO KIDDING! I’ve already had to replace the dryer! Fingers crossed for you guys!!! C

They do not make appliances the way they used to.

It’s fixed. The hose had come off because of an uneven load. Don thought it had to do with his ‘just one pair of jeans’ load and he was right. It’s fixed, the oil has been delivered. All is well.

      Stay safe.

I love it when a plan comes together and actually works. Oil delivered and the repair done ~~ no need for a new appliance. Yay!! Hopefully the snow won’t be bad….although as you said, it is good for the water table. We had heavy rain for a good part of the day today. So ready for Spring to arrive. Take care.

Ready for Spring, but we’ve now got at least 7 inches on the ground and it’s still snowing! It’s really beautiful, though.

      Thanks Chris.

Good news about the oil! Fingers crossed that the same will be for the washer…
I keep telling my husband that at our age the “chaos” should be less, but it still seems we have times that stretch our limits. Hang in there…We’re in Kansas and haven’t had snow this winter yet, thought it’s been much colder than usual. I’ve been hanging quilts over the north windows of my sunroom to help the heater keep up. Still, we’re grateful as you are to have each other and an overall very enjoyable life. That said — bring on the spring!

Got my fingers crossed for you! It’s been a hard winter. It’s been much colder than we are used too. We had new windows put in the first part of November and a new driveway and walkway poured two weeks ago. We will be eating mac and cheese for awhile longer!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
