The Finish

April 22, 2019 at 9:58 am by Claudia

I had to make sure I got these gems into the mix for this year’s egg cup tour. They were a gift from my friend Judy, and I love them. I keep them in the kitchen on the little shelf below my cupboards so I sometimes forget to include them. Aren’t they adorable?

I hope you had a lovely weekend. I spent some of my time yesterday working on the garden beds, cleaning up more debris, getting wet and muddy in the process. With all the rain we’ve been having, I have to grab those windows of opportunity when I can.

This morning, we’re off to buy a new wheelbarrow – much needed. My little cart I was using last year is currently being used to house excess Item 4 (gravel) and I fear the muddy and heavy gravel has ruined it forever. I need something bigger anyway. Then, when Don takes Rick and Doug to the bus station (they’re off on a trip) I’ll go buy some mulch. There were an alarming amount of weeds growing in the big garden bed and I cleared most of them yesterday. I have to get that mulch down in the next 24 hours.

And to close out our little tour, one more shot of the egg cup cubby.

I have to get moving.

Happy Monday!

I just adore that cupboard with all the egg cups. Sounds like a busy weekend for you also. Scouts birthday party was so much fun. The kids did paintings and got to take them home. I had a blast watching the children be so creative. Then yesterday we had the family over for Easter dinner. My Mom isn’t feeling well so she didn’t come over to eat but the kids went to visit and spend some time with her. Scout had to ‘entertain’ us with her ballet. She is such a little Diva already. Love both my Grands so much. They loved their Easter baskets with fun stuff like balls that are full of glitter and light up when bounced. I have as much fun gathering the items as they do opening them. Busy day/week. Mom has a Dr’s appt, I have many chores to do and laundry to catch up on. Just so glad I’m finally on the mend! Hugs!

Love those egg cups…well, I’m fascinated by all of them…but you knew that.

We spent the weekend in the yard doing clean up. It felt wonderful, and was good exercise. There were close to 6” of pine needles that we had to remove. I know that is the popular mulch in the south, but I prefer wood chips. Some of my hostas are up…about half are not. Hopefully, with this warmer weather, they’ll be up soon. We have a couple we want to divide and move…then we can spread mulch.

A new shiny wheelbarrow…three wheeled or four? Enjoy your day! ;)

Three-wheeled. We went for an inexpensive one. It’s pretty!

We use wood chips, too. Actually, it’s a bit more like shredded bark.

      Thanks, Donnamae!

What a sweet photo!!! So cheery, esp on rainy days!! Have fun in your yard. We’re working on ours too.
Did I tell you that we live up the hill from the Vintage shop in OB? In fact, we walk down to Newport Ave frequently (quite a hike getting back up!) & always walk into Vintage…

You decorate, all in all, so nicely – – like how the aqua/turquoise sign on the stair wall picks up the color of the top-shelf egg cups (jewel tones). Nice on the eyes.

What a great shot that is of your cabinet with all the egg cups! That was one wise purchase, Claudia. It was just MADE for your collection. Couldn’t be more perfect. And it looks terrific with nearly every cubby “occupied” – your own high-rise hotel for egg cups. Except that all the clientele are permanent residents – LOL. Looks perfect in your staircase niche too. In short – meant to be. We had a sumptuous Easter breakfast at my middle sister’s – so much food that all I wanted for supper was Greek yogurt. The sun is just coming out up here, hope you’re getting some too, down there in the Valley! ☀️

Well my first comment echo’s the others – The cupboard for the egg cups was such a great find and I’m so glad you have it. I think you should send a picture of it with your collection to a collector’s magazine with some background on the eggcups. You might get published again!

Claudia, I enjoy seeing your egg cups and the final photo of the cabinet. I need to find a small vintage wooden shelf unit to hang over my grandma’s dressing table. It’s a solid wood kidney-shaped table top. I use it as a small desk in my office. I haven’t found. Anything suitable yet, so I was thinking of making over an old wooden produce box I found at my Mom’s house. But first, I have to complete the sewing of the curtains for my Mom. They’re tabbed Cafe curtains and I need 154 tabs. The worst part is turning the tabs right side out, since the fabric is thick and stiff. But I’ve gotten over 50 done with the help of my kids. 1/3 of the way there! Sewing the panels will be a breeze after the tabs…

I used to have one of those dressing tables – it was my grandmother’s and she passed it down to me. I have no idea what happened to it!

I can’t imagine how much work all those tabs are, Wendy!

Hey, Claudia . . . your friend you’ve never met here. So glad you bought that egg cubby. A few years ago, there was a cabinet in a little antique store I frequent . I loved it. I wanted it. I thought about it, and decided not to spend the money (probably a fraction of what something new would cost). Anyway, one day I decided to go buy it. It was gone! Horrors! Lesson learned. :)

Love the four cups in the kitchen. They’d make great mise en place cups.

We’ve had two gorgeous days in a row and today I did the garden walkaround to see what needs to be done. The short answer is “lots.” Good luck with yours!

i’ve walked away from a few vintage pieces/antiques in the past only to regret it. sold a couple pieces after quickly realizing i mis-measured or got caught up in “auction fever”, too. glad you don’t have that about the cupboard… it is perfect for your egg cups and that spot! happy for you!

I saw the cutest yellow chicken egg cup today at the Clinton Antique Shops in Montgomery, NY. Had some age and was a great color – they were asking $12. Thought a beautiful drive (and an egg cup) might interest you.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
