The Girls and a Birthday

July 3, 2022 at 8:43 am by Claudia

Yesterday was another hot and humid day culminating in thunderstorms late in the afternoon. In the morning there were a few sprinkles, but that was it, so Don went ahead and worked at the farmer’s market. It ended up being a good day for him. But boy was he tired from being out in the sun and humidity all day long!

I stayed home and did some laundry, watered houseplants, cleaned and started a new jigsaw puzzle. I gave up on the last one because it was very, very difficult and I finally lost my patience and any motivation I had and put it back in the box. Maybe I’ll get to it again someday. I find I need something to do other than reading on days when I can’t be outside for any length of time, so I bought another puzzle. This one is The World of Sherlock Holmes.

The girls and I worked on a little project in the morning:

We decided that we needed a new group portrait. So, two by two, I carried them outside to the glider and the girls decided where to stand. A couple of them were less than enthusiastic, but we ignored them and carried on.

All in all, I’m pleased with the results.

They’re awfully cute.

TODAY is a red letter day! It’s my darling baby sister’s birthday! I adore her. And I helped raise her since I was 11½ when she was born. She is an extraordinary human being and the world is better for her existence. I don’t know what I’d do without her.

Happy Birthday, dearest sister! I love you to the moon and back. I hope your boys spoil you today. God knows, you deserve it! xoxoxo

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Wow that is difficult work for Don.
I do feel bad for him. Although I am sure he enjoys the contact with the people it is difficult in the hot humid weather. Any extra money in this economy I am sure is helpful.

dear Claudia/Don — glad Don was able to get “out & about” ! sometimes little diversions can be necessary/helpful — speaking from experience, haha!! love the girls, altho some sorta look like they are rolling their eyes — again, speaking from experience as I have seen that look many, many times, haha!! hope your sister has a great day. Ky is very hot right now, little rain here in the middle of the state — the ‘bluegrass’ is turning brown — farm crops are in sad condition, horse/cattle farmers already feeding hay with long summer days till fall. sure hope you all can enjoy each day. stay healthy/safe

That’s why I said some of them were less than enthusiastic! I love how expressive their eyes can be.

      Stay safe, Linda.

It feels like you grew to nine beauties so quickly that I almost lost track, so it’s great to see them assembled for their photo. They’re all so ‘individual’ with looks and personality. Of course you dress them with such special-quality, darling clothes. What fun for you! And of course they don’t take up much room, so it’s an enjoyable AND manageable hobby/passion. I like their little knees for some strange reason; makes them feel so real in how you’ve posed them in recent photos, which almost sometimes feels like motion to what otherwise would be inanimate. I guess I see the knees because my eye always seems to go to the adorable shoes! The dolls go so well with your other miniature-style collections (the precious diminutive stuff, be it doll house accessories and furniture; your putz sheep; the egg cups; quality workmanship in small form; just so much lovely detail to appreciate!).

I’m really crazy about them. If you’d asked me a year ago if I would collect dolls, I would have laughed out loud!

      Stay safe, Vicki.

sounds like a pretty good day … getting some necessary things done, then doing fun stuff. glad you had it!

hope you are enjoying the new puzzle. better luck on the other one some other time (winter maybe?).

heat and humidity aside, i’m glad don had a good day at the farmers’ market, too.

hope the thunderstorm helped lower that heat and humidity. we might get the same overnight. hope so … every day for the next week is to reach 90+ and maybe 97 to 99 tomorrow and tuesday. bleh!

fun to see your girls all together and how sweet that most look like they are holding hands or reaching for a sister’s hand. :)

happy birthday to your sister. i hope this will be the start of a terrific year ahead for her and her kids.

did i tell you that i now have a roommate? been here about a week, don’t see him, but he’s already left a mark (five, actually) so i am actively seeking his eviction. my new roommate is a mosquito. ha not ha. :)

hope you all have had a nice day and will have a fun fourth of july. stay safe in every way!

I don’t know what the lifespan of a mosquito is, but it can’t be very long!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
