The Moon, Maxfield Parrish & The Good Wife

October 26, 2015 at 8:25 am by Claudia

10-26 moon first try

I don’t know why, but I can never get a good picture of the moon. I’m sure it’s something to do with my settings, and I’ve never made an effort to figure it out. I think I’ll do a little googling today on that subject. But the moon was huge last night, big and fat, and this is a shot of it over the back forty.

As Don said, “It’s never as good as what you’re actually seeing.”

Yep.

Here’s the other try:

10-26 moon second try

Interesting, but…

I needed to get out of the house yesterday so, while Don was running an errand, I stopped at our local Antique Barn. I had the vague idea that I might find some McCoy for $10 or so. I didn’t. There was some McCoy, but nothing I was interested in. I did see something I want very much indeed, but I can’t justify buying it when we’re trying to make ends meet.

10-26 Dinky Bird

A Maxfield Parrish in its original frame. It’s one of his more famous illustrations, Dinky Bird. I suppose I should research that and find out why it’s called Dinky (or Dinkey, depending on who’s talking about it) Bird. I love it. Look at those blues and those golden tinged clouds! It was priced at $79.00, which is actually a very good deal. Maybe no one will buy it and I can save up my pennies. Or maybe it will still be there in time for my birthday next month.

A girl can dream.

I checked on the title – it’s an illustration for a poem by Eugene Field, The Dinkey Bird.

Yes, to all of you who thought you spotted Don on The Good Wife  last night. He was in a scene right at the top with Michael J. Fox. Brief, but fun. And a fancy suit, to boot! I would have alerted you in yesterday’s post, but we didn’t know about it until around 6:30 or 7:00 pm, so I posted the information on Instagram (a good reason to follow my account)!

Not that I often have important late breaking news. And, unlike CNN, I don’t call every little thing “Breaking News.”

Don’t get me started.

It’s a very cold and frosty morning around these parts. In fact, when I saw the frost, which I had not expected, I panicked about the porch plants. But they seem to be okay. Whew!

Dad’s doing well at the Rehab facility. He is known by everyone there. He’s been a patient there before and, of course, he was a daily visitor (sometimes 3 times a day) when my mom was there during her extended stay at the end of her life. So, people keep stopping in to see him and he basks in the attention. He’s still in pain, but is getting physical and occupational therapy.

Happy Monday.

I noticed how pretty the moon looked shining down on my yard last night too. Your Roseville pottery looks beautiful in your cabinet. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to it either. Hope you can get the art work you like. Off to rake today. Doris

Nowadays, only big names get more dialogue on most television shows. It’s not the way it used to be, unfortunately.

Claudia, Hugs to your father. It’s sad for us to see our parents suffer. I wish I could have seen your Don on that show. Wish he could get more TV…wouldn’t that be nice. I can’t seem to get a shot of the moon that doesn’t end up being a white spot…period. LOL I don’t think the book that came with this camera tells enough. Blessings to you, I think our autumn colors and weather is going . xoxo,Susie
    p.s. I like that painting.

It was fun seeing Don last night…it caught me off guard at first! I hope that painting will wait for you…I’m betting it will. It was frosty here last night too…and the leaves are rapidly falling. They look so beautiful against the sunny blue sky….I’m sure gonna miss this view I have! ;)

So glad your Dad is in a good place. It makes such a difference in recovery for the patient and for the rest of the family, too.
The moon was pretty hard to miss last night, wasn’t it? So beautiful! I do agree with Don. The real thing is always just a bit more remarkable than is a picture. That doesn’t mean we stop trying to capture it, though!!
On Saturday the leaves here were falling like snow ~ but much prettier! Today the grass is completely covered. There is never a shortage of work to do in the Fall.
Hope your day is a good one!!

Sorry, I missed your husband on Good Wife. I am afraid that I cannot take my eyes off of Michael J Fox when he is on there, so hilarious that role he plays! I will watch it again and pay more attention this time!

So glad your Dad’s doing well. How nice that he’s BMOC at his new place too. Must make it easier to be away from home for a while. Hope you get your painting too. Sending out positive vibes on your behalf – LOL. I’m still waiting for some Indian Summer weather myself. I just CAN’T accept bare trees and really cold weather until December. And I have to find out what kind of trees are planted at our local McDonald’s. Believe it or not, they don’t reach their peak color until Thanksgiving week. It’s SO nice to have some “late” trees in the area, to prolong the beauty of Fall. Have a great week… ?

I’ll be sure to do that, Claudia. I just don’t know how to find out what they are. I wonder if having a sample leaf would help? I do have a little pocket book of trees in my car. I could see if there are any matches. But ever since I’ve lived in this neighborhood, I’ve noticed how those particular trees are always brightest – yellows and oranges – during the week of Thanksgiving. Not typical for the area at all. Our peak here is usually middle of October through Halloween.

The Maxfield Parrish print is gorgeous and really that does not seem like a bad price, but I live on a pretty tight budget also so I get it. Happy to hear your Dad is doing well. My Mom had gum surgery this morning and is doing well, it’s always scary at her age though. I loved seeing Don last night! His play off of Michael J Fox was very funny. I too wanted more of Don. I also want to tell you how much I am loving his CD…more on that soon.
    hugs,
    Linda

No, it’s actually a good price – just not a good price for me right at the moment! I’m glad your mom came through the gum surgery with flying colors, Linda.

Yes, of course, they should have written a far bigger role for Don, but…we have no control over that!

I’ve just come in from a long day of errands and appointments in 98-degree swamp. I was at one point (in another town) a mere half-dozen miles from the ocean and it was even hot over THERE when normally it would be cooler closer to the water.

Love to hear about your typical autumns with the clear days (or even rainy ones) and cold nights although I know frost is ‘The Enemy’ right now. Your moon photos are awesome!

Recorded ‘The Good Wife’ last night so will be sure to look out for Don when I play it back!

Hope you’re having a good evening; wrap up in a nice blanket! (Sure wish we could be doing that in Southern California!! Most of the time, for sleep, it’s a sheet only, which we wind up kicking off!)

You know, we aren’t informed when an episode is going to air. We have to figure it out like everyone else – as we don’t watch The Good Wife normally, it was only by chance that we discovered it was going to air that evening. I did a heads-up on Instagram, which was the best I could do! Do you have On-demand on your cable? You could watch it that way. But don’t worry, it was a really short scene.

I don’t watch Good Wife, but my daughter watched almost a full episode last night. I showed her your website photo of Don, but she thinks she may have missed that scene, since she didn’t start watching at the beginning. I’m bad about learning how to use my camera. I’m sure my photos will turn out better if I take the time to learn.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
