I pretty sure you know my reaction to yesterday’s news. Honestly, I never doubted it would happen. Not once.
Can you be happy and enraged at the same time? Turns out, I think you can, given my reaction while reading the indictment.
That’s all on that for now.
Awaiting the news sometime this month from Georgia.

A little trip in the wayback machine today. I finally photographed the picture cube from the Gordon Lightfoot concert we attended back in the seventies (maybe 72 or 73?) I saw him live several times, but I attended this particular concert with my friends Becky and Scott. Both of them were close friends from high school and Scott dabbled in photography – I hope he still does!
Scott took the pictures, developed them, and gave me a large print of a photo (I don’t know where that is) and this photo cube – I believe they were birthday presents that year.
Those were the days when Gordon Lightfoot regularly played Masonic Auditorium in Detroit. That’s where I saw and met Judy Collins, as well. At the time, you could get backstage easily and in Collins’ case, I met her onstage and she signed my program. In the case of Lightfoot, we found our way backstage to his dressing room.
I put the cube on the floor to eliminate as much glare as possible.
The last photo was taken as we chatted with him backstage.
You could never get away with that today – only if you had an official backstage pass, as we did when we saw Paul McCartney. Understandably, security is much too tight now.
Don was thrilled when I unearthed this from a box. He insisted we display it by our turntable.
We miss you, Gordon.
Something about me: I have music of some kind playing in my head all day, every day. I can generally tune it out, but it’s there. Right now? For Lovin’ Me. Whoops! It just switched to Bitter Green.
It may be time for another swipe at the front lawn. We’ll see. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday. But today is beautiful. I’m going to listen to some Gordon Lightfoot today.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.
Donnamae says
Those pictures are priceless….such memories. I’m glad you are going to display it…by the turntable seems the perfect spot.
It’s interesting to me the songs that just pop up in my head…for no apparent reason. I don’t have music playing constantly up there as you do…but often enough to make me wonder why that particular song? Funny how the brain works.
Happy mowing! ;)
Claudia says
It is strange – something we hear or say or smell triggers it.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

what a wonderful find (great photos … looks like your seats were up close)! what a wonderful experience! glad for you. putting the photo cube by the turntable sounds perfect.
your talk of music today has brought up a very happy memory for me (thank you) … the first concert i ever went to. it was “three dog night” and i went with my brother and sister. :)
hope cooler weather has stuck around if you have to mow the lawn today. stay safe.
hope everyone has a good day.

Claudia says
I had tickets to Three Dog Night in high school – I was a huge fan – and I got the flu and couldn’t go. Sob.
But I follow Chuck Negron on Instagram.
Stay safe, Kathy.
kathy in iowa says
oh, no … sorry you were sick and had to miss the show! :(
i don’t recall anything about the “three dog night” show i went to except where it was held and talking with my brother and sister, and being in a huge group of people up near the stage between acts. i don’t recall what they sang, what i wore (funny about that because i probably stressed out about that beforehand … haha), etc. just now i looked it up on the “concert archives” website … that show was august 07, 1975; i was seventeen and about to start my senior year of high school. :)
don’t know if it goes back to august 1975 or includes anything by gordon lightfoot, for example, but there is also a website dedicated to the setlists of songs performed at lots and lots of shows. for anyone who might be curious about such details. :)
hope you are having a nice night.

your mention of Gordon Lightfoot made me go to Youtube to listen to him. Lovely music. Thank You!
Claudia says
You’re most welcome!
Stay safe, Jan.
Shanna says
Yup. Always a song in my head, though it drives me crazy sometimes.
Claudia says
Me too!
Stay safe, Shanna.

Perfect photos to display by your turntable!

Thanks, Barrie.

Yeah, I was a little taken aback at the level of rage I felt welling up from deep inside as I watched yesterday’s headline news go down in real time; knew it wasn’t good for me to get so upset. But as more and more was revealed on the newscasts with each ticking minute, I kept saying to myself, “Wow. Wow. Wow.” A mix of positive and negative emotions.
Definitely the Gordon Lightfoot I’d have in my head, what he looked like in the years I was listening to him that I most remember. Very cool, Claudia. That he’d chat with his fans speaks good things about him. Thanks for sharing your memory cube today.
I’m going thru some rain envy … although DRY here (per se) in Southern Calif we are NOT (due to ‘wet’-cloying humidity which I’d prefer make its exit, soonest).
Life seems busy right now except that I feel really restless and bored with the busy-ness. Don’t quite know what that’s about; I suppose I could use the vacay I never get. We’ll go out for the week’s errands and drive today; maybe it’ll help to get in the car and go somewhere although we never stray far.
I can remember being a kid off from school in summer and feeling boredom. Guess it might have been a challenge for our moms to keep us occupied and entertained!

I read the entire indictment this morning. It’s like something you’d see in a work of fiction. The details in the indictment are well worth reading. It’s 45 pages, but it’s double spaced and it’s well written.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Wendy T says
I haven’t listened to Lightfoot in years, but he was once a favorite. I think I have vinyl (but I need to get my turntable repaired) and probably a CD. My late husband and I saw him a couple of times. How about making a miniature Gordon Lightfoot photo in a photo frame for Don’s mini-studio?
Claudia says
He already has miniature pictures of the Beatles and John Prine. I think I’ll leave it at that for the time being…
Stay safe, Wendy.
Linda MacKean says
Amazing photos and priceless memories. Gordon Lightfoot was such a wonderful artist. I hear his music in my head also. Oh and yes happy about yesterday but the anger at it happening at all with never leave me.
Claudia says
I agree. I am very angry and I think we need to stay angry!
Stay safe.

That cube is great — the photos are terrific and the memories even more so. I remember those backstage days. I saw Gordon Lightfoot at Michigan Festival eons ago. It was a bad date (well, a date that didn’t turn out all that well) but the concert more than made up for it!
Jack Smith: My hero.
kathy in iowa says
hej, jeanie.
sorry about the bad date, but as the song goes … “God bless the broken road that led me to you” (rick, in your case)!
i just made myself another batch of sketchbooks … one for painting/drawing landscapes, one for people, another for birds, etc.. to tell them apart, i taped related images from a magazine on the different covers. on the cover of my “people” sketchbook is a photo of jack smith. :)
hope you are having a good night!
kathy
jeanie says
You’re right about those roads leading! I love that you made your sketchbooks — do you have a blog? I’d love to see them. And bravo on your choice of covers for your “people” book!
Have a great evening!
kathy in iowa says
thanks, jeanie. :)
no blog, instagram or other social media for me.
do you have a blog?
it would sure be fun to see what everyone talks about here … their gardens, stacks of “to be read” books, art, etc.!
since i can’t show you right now or include a link, i’ll just say i’m a newbie to painting and sketching. i especially like watercolor paints, water-soluble colored pencils and water-soluble crayons … mostly for fun (i am working on a couple of children’s books and when i feel stuck there, sometimes i draw a character or place in the story to hopefully break through).
and my sketchbooks are easy … made by kinko’s/fed-ex staff (haha). i bring in my favorite papers and they cut them to the size i want, add a slick or chipboard cover and bind them for me. watercolor and mixed-media, kinko’s chipboard, previous things i’ve done, things torn out of a magazine, whatever. easy! and not very expensive. :) i do that because i like paper in sizes different than the pads of paper are usually in. also, i live in a small place, paint/draw at a desk in the corner of my living room and so like to have a simple, uniform look to my sketchbooks. and in having them bound, i’m much less likely to tear out what i don’t like and so will hopefully over time see progress in what i paint and draw. :)
how about you? what do you like to do?
hope you are having a great night, too!

Hi Kathy! My blog is https://themarmeladegypsy.blogspot.com
I do a lot of watercolor (used to do more mixed media but have switched over). So I’m interested in the sketchbooks! That’s a great idea. I’m still buying mine and I like the idea of the personal ones.
If you want to continue this off Claudia’s blog, my email is jeanie@wkar.org (I’m in Lansing, MI). My blog is a lot of stuff — real life, art, nature stuff, travel — wherever I am at the moment! Stop by or email me!

thanks, jeanie!
i will gladly do that … but today is not the day. had an extra-early start and will likely not get back until after 9:00 pm tonight … so tomorrow and looking forward to it!
hope you are having a nice, easy day!

Love Jack Smith!
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Kay in SE WI says
Your friend really gave you a wonderful gift. To enshrining them in the cube made sure they were harder to lose too.
I began reading the NYT annotated copy of the indictment but I didn’t get very far yet. I hate how much space that orange creature has been taking up in my mind lately. More poor air quality alerts for today and tomorrow so it looks like I’ll have plenty of indoor time for reading it when the mood strikes me. If I do have any pleasant music playing in my mind, which I usually do, it’ll drive it right out of me.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
I’m sorry about the air quality alert – this has been a tough summer, Kay.
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
Oh, wow, lots of great memories of Gordon Lightfoot. His music will live on. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
It will live on, Elaine. Still can’t believe he’s gone.
Stay safe.
Denise says
Gordon Lightfoot? You are singing my song right there!
And the news about the former prez: reverberating g happily around the world.
Claudia says
Yes, indeed!
Thanks, Denise.
