The week ahead

January 9, 2023 at 8:45 am by Claudia

Monday morning, and rather dreary, but there’s hope for sunshine this afternoon.

We watched the first episode of All Creatures Great and Small  on PBS last night. So glad it’s back! I almost forgot about it. Except for Jeopardy, we rarely watch network television, but thankfully, I saw someone post about it on IG. It’s excellent, of course.

I found out yesterday that one of my former students is seriously ill. I have written a note to her and she is now in my daily prayers. She is one of the best people I know.

I’m prepping for my work in NYC starting on Wednesday and also trying to take care of things around here since I’ll only be here to sleep from Wed – Saturday. Then I’ll have two days off. And then two more days on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Then I’m done. Lots of rain in the forecast, always a pain when trying to navigate around the city. And the rehearsal studio is very far west – almost on the Hudson River – so it’s a long walk, as east-west blocks in Manhattan are much more lengthy than north-south blocks. It will probably take a couple of days to figure out the best route. If need be, I’ll grab an Uber because I cannot abide being late.

Thought I’d share a little Polaroid of me that Don took a couple of months ago. He was working with black and white film, light and shadow. It’s tucked away on the bulletin board in the kitchen.

I’m reading a bit more than a chapter a day of War and Peace, since I’ll not be able to read it Wed – Sat. I must say, I’m really enjoying it. It’s highly readable and the character studies are rich with detail. I’ll read a few more extra chapters today.

Okay. Not very exciting, but it is indeed a snapshot of this moment in time.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Good morning, Claudia! We’re getting lots of rain right now, and it’s been coming down for hours…but we really need it! I’m hoping that we, too, get a bit of sunshine…may be just a peek! Don took a great picture of you, very artistic! Your NYC work sounds exciting, along with the logistics dilemma…nice that you have a little break in the middle. Prep work takes a lot of worry away though. Hope it all works out well!

sounds like a very busy week ahead for you! you’ve done it before so many times that it should go well, easily (except for the rain part) and i hope that’s how it will be for you.

will be praying for your former student.

nice photo don took of you. glad he continues to enjoy photography. and that you are enjoying “war and peace”. you both have many interests. same for me … lots of things i enjoy doing and i am never bored.

i am, however, tired right now. was awake until after 3 am this morning and was out the door just after 7:30 for a car appointment (replacing headlight, getting an oil change). yawning … but will be good to have those things done.

    happy, safe monday.

Claudia, I love that picture…it is enchanting…amazing…as to W and P, the fact that I have read it more than once, along with the other two long books….tells you that I was a little girl who lived in her own world in her family in her books. When I first started teaching, I challenged my students to read W and P, C and P, or A K..a few did but not many…the words…the phrases…awesome…I am considering reading W and P again…on Gutenberg free…I am excited for your project. My eldest grand loves living inBrooklyn and working at the publisher. I think she still gets to work from the apartment two days a week. I have not been to NYC since she moved there, but I have spent many times in NYC. I am excited for you. I am still masking …no inside restaurants or big stores…however need to fly to Indy in May…graduations…need to get to NYC to see her… need to get HOME to WV to friends…etc…I am going to do one trip every six to 12 months…depends on Finances because HOME will mean hotel…some friends did not vaccinate and and can’t stay there…NYC hotel of course. Have a beautiful day…your photo is beautiful…just how I imagine you…

Excited for your upcoming work and I hope you enjoy it. Love the photo Don took of you. Black and White photos are so interesting to me. I’m finally feeling a bit better and hope to finish the last of the Christmas clean up. Starting some new projects for January. 2023 will be a better year I’m determined.

Hello, friend. Your office update was good to see . . . I need some inspiration so it was just the ticket. Good luck with the work . . . you’ll probably end up with a part in the play, lol! :-)

I love black and white photos. They have a lovely aura about them and the one Don took of you is beautiful. We watched All Creatures Great and Small, too. Didn’t Helen make a beautiful bride? I fear James is going to enlist, though. We Canadians were pretty proud of Mattea Roach and Ray Lalonde’s winning streaks on Jeopardy. Safe travels back and forth to NYC. I’m glad you have next weekend off to recuperate after a busy week. Hope it won’t be as rainy as you think it might be. Hugs, Elaine

Love the photo, Claudia, and sending all good wishes for your friend’s recovery.

Isn’t “All Creatures” wonderful? I was afraid I’d miss the airing of the wedding because we had grands and I was pretty sure we couldn’t suck them into it. But one fell asleep a bit before on Rick’s lap and the other fell asleep on mine after plaintively asking if they could watch something else, head nodding and bobbing. After quietly telling him, “I think you’ll like this — it has animals” he bobbed and nodded some more and by the time James and Helen made it to the church, he was out like a light!

Good luck with this week’s work. The travel sounds exhausting. And I love that photo. I know. I said it at the beginning. But I really do.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
