Yesterday was spent doing three loads of laundry, watering plants, pulling weeds, and remaining glued to my laptop as details slowly emerged as to Paul Manafort’s guilty plea. When I saw he was cooperating with Mueller, I almost did a little jig right here in the den!
Even though Don doesn’t like to watch news programming at night or pretty much ever, I persuaded him to watch Rachel with me last night. Oh boy, things are getting exciting for those of us in the resistance! Let’s see what happens in the coming days. If it tries to pardon Manafort, his goose is just about cooked. The same thing if it fires either Rosenstein or Mueller.
It’s like a cornered rat, so who knows what this narcissistic fool will try?
(It = that man.)
Anyway, back to mowing, recycling, and grocery shopping today. Back to the mundane, yet comforting, daily chores.
Three weeks from tomorrow, we leave on our trip. It will be here before we know it! We still have to book our Edinburgh lodgings, but everything else is taken care of, save any day trips we might want to take.
I’ve got Don hooked on The Great British Baking Show. Who would have thought? Rick, Doug and I were chatting about how much we loved it and Don’s interest was piqued. We watched a couple of episodes the other night. Then, when I mentioned that I wanted to watch Rachel, he said “Only if we can watch an episode of The Great British Baking Show first.”
My work is done.
I hope everyone in the path of the hurricane is safe. We are thinking of you and sending our prayers your way.
Happy Saturday.

no need to say who “it” is … you are being kind though- when referring to him, I usually release my “inner stevedore” (silently … we have little ones around, so I like to maintain their image of “proper nina”) and use all THE WORDS- power to “The Resistance”!
looking at your beautiful assortment of collections is just a bright spot- I should gather my things and enjoy looking at them- wonder why I keep them squirrel(l)ed away? when I’m no longer around, my heirs will probably make a beeline with them to the nearest dumpster/thrift shop-
have a fun weekend-

Oh, I use much saltier language here at home. I just have to edit it for the blog!
Chy says
You have more grace than me Claudia. I can’t ever refer to him as a “man”!!!! But little ears around here as well, so a lot gets said in my head ….
Did you know we have the “Great Canadian Baking Show” here in snowy Canada? Yes, it’s snowing again today …. 2 months too early. A now dear friend Terri was in the first season and did so well. I love the British version, so now we have 2 to watch!
Have a lovely weekend dreaming of Europe. I can’t wait to read all about your new adventure!

Thanks, Chy!
Claudia says
Yes I did – Daniel Levy is one of the hosts, isn’t he?
Good for your friend!
So sorry about the snow.
And believe me, the language I use to describe it here at home is much, much saltier. I just have to edit it for the blog.
Chy says
Yes he is. Quite the character!
As much as I’m not impressed with this early snowfall, it will melt by Monday. And no one is in danger. My heart aches for those in the path of the hurricane right now. Our experience is head shaking but nothing compared to the coast of the U.S.
Our copy of “Fear” will arrive on Monday morning. The great debate this weekend is who gets to read it first!!

We love Great British Baking, and my daughter, who is a terrific baker IMHO, gets lots of inspiration to try new recipes.
Three weeks! They will fly by for sure and pretty soon you’ll be jetting over the Pond! Exciting and excited for you.
I heard the news on the radio, and nearly danced a jig in the driver’s seat, but being a very careful driver, just did somersaults instead…
Visited my boy last night. We were with him for two hours. We finally got him to eat a bit, but what the vet tech really wanted was for him to be comfortable enough to pee in his litter box, which he didn’t do. I’ll call the vet hospital shortly to see how he did overnight. Everyone is so kind to him, but we know it’s natural for him to be scared.
Claudia says
I love baking. One drawback of watching the show with Don is that he wants me to bake everything!
I hope your boy is better today, Wendy.
Wendy T says
Claudia, Great British Baking is amazing since all the contestants are home bakers.
I’m at Phantom of the Opera this afternoon so will find out if Bagheera can come home when I call the vet later. Fingers crossed. It’s a terrific production, BTW.

Yesterday, I admit it… it’s problems did make me smile.
We are big fans of The Great British Baking Show, here, too. I’ve
picked up some baking tips just from watching, but I’ve still got a long way to go. I’m a good cook…but can’t seem to bake much other than cookies. I didn’t get that gene…my mom and grandma were fantastic bakers. The new episodes of the show, unfortunately, won’t be including Mary Berry…that makes me sad. And, they won’t be on PBS either…only Netflix. That’s a little more inconvenient as far as I’m concerned.
That photo of your McCoy and that painting is just so serene and gorgeous. It’s quite perfect you know. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I love baking! Yes, I’ve started Don off with earlier seasons so he can see Mary Berry and the two lovely and funny hosts.
Donnamae says
I enjoy baking…my problem is with yeast. Maybe my future DIL can teach me the ins and outs of yeast….she’s an excellent baker! ;)
Claudia says
I rarely use yeast nowadays. I used to bake a lot of bread years ago, but not now!

I was jigging a bit yesterday morning, as well. We watched Rachel last night, also. My husband watches it nearly every night, but I just can’t bear it. I love Rachel, but it is the news I can’t handle. I want to believe the pieces are lining up, or falling into place ~ but every time I start to feel that way, we seem to slip slide backwards back into the black hole. Maybe the hurricane will do him in. He is blowing about as much wind as Florence. If only he could spin himself out to sea.
I have come to believe that the mundane is good. There is some semblance of peace in the ordinary. We just don’t seem to have much normalcy any longer, so any time the day can be filled with the routine of laundry, straightening, bed-making, cooking, weeding, etc. (without the news bringing us to our knees) seems to be a very good day, indeed. I hope you have a great mundane day!!
Claudia says
I can’t watch her all the time. Especially when I have to go to sleep!
Mundane is rather wonderful, I think I take great comfort in it. And I did have a great mundane day!
kathy in iowa says
do that jig!
agree also about the comfort of routines and small, repetitive tasks, especially those not needing to be done in high heat or humidity … enjoy!
prayers for everyone affected by the hurricane and other troubles.
happy saturday!

It turned out to be a humid day today, Kathy – only save by the temps not being too high!

Is it really only 3 weeks? Wow, they will fly by. I have been an MSNBC addict for about ten years now (ever since Rachel first started there), but have dialed it down lately. The news has just been so darned depressing that, by the time she gets on, I can’t stand to hear one more time how screwed up everything is. Plus, she does it in such detail it’s more than I can take before bedtime.
I was a huge British Bake off fan – until all the recent changes. I think it would break my heart to tune in now and not see Mary Berry :-(
Claudia says
I agree. I watch it when big things have happened but not on a daily basis. We are big MSNBC fans, too.
Carolyn Marie says
I love the Great British Baking Show! Sometimes we watch the finale with our grown kids and our 9 year old grandson. He loves it as much as the adults.
Claudia says
It’s so wonderful and everyone is so kind to each other.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I am on ‘vacation’ so haven’t watched the news at all but did read a bit online and yes doing a little jig myself. I adore the British Baking Show and have watched all the seasons they have on Netflix. I missed Mary Barry on the last season but the new lady is nice also. Just three weeks until your trip, I’m so excited for you and Don. I’m really enjoying his photos on IG. Will he take his camera on the trip? It’s quite large I know. Happy Saturday. I’m going to do a bit of shopping with Ashleigh today and then take another walk in this glorious place. Hugs!
Claudia says
As I understand it, the new hosts are different as well. I really liked Mel and Sue.
No, that camera is WAY too heavy. And besides, it’s for a certain thing – taking portraits of other people. He’s not going to want to do that on the trip.
Deborah says
Curious that they changed the title from Great British Bake Off to Baking Show for North American audiences. There’s an Australian and a NZ version too, I think. Good stress buster for these stressful times.
Claudia says
They often change titles from one country to another. Marketing, I suppose. Seems silly to me!

The homunculous who lives in the White House has caused me to draw on all the bad words in my arsenal, some of which I’d never actually voiced aloud before this [mis]administration, surprising my husband who’s known me since we were 20. The Great British Baking Show is the perfect antidote to these venomous times. We lock the door, hole up in the den and settle happily in to watch what an English blogger I follow describes as, “nice people doing nice things being nice.”
Claudia says
Best word ever to describe it!! You win!
I read the quote from the English blogger to Don and he thoroughly agreed!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Love your beautiful aqua McCoy pieces…3 weeks to go and I am feeling so excited for you that you would think I was going with you…in a way I am because I know you will share it with all of us!!!
Claudia says
I surely will! xo
