Remember when Don and I installed these bookshelves and this little wooden egg cup (a gift from Don and Scout) held center stage?
Well…now that I’ve got the bug again, but mostly because of the generosity of my readers, this is what it looks like:
The entire shelf is full of egg cups.
There are the set of four wooden egg cups (3 are on the shelf below) and the yellow ‘man’ egg cup from reader Barb in Canada. The blue chick egg cup from fellow blogger Linda, the rooster egg cup from fellow blogger Susie. Recently, I bought the little boy and these two egg cups:
I don’t know anything about them save for the fact that I really like them. Marked Japan.
And on Monday, a package arrived from reader Judy, who lives in Washington. Imagine my delight as I unwrapped these:
This is a vintage Hankscraft stoneware double egg cup. I’ve always wanted one of these. Is it just me or is the design vaguely Art Deco?
I love this sweet and sunny egg cup with a little chick. The inside of the cup is a lovely sky blue. Marked Japan.
Lovely. No mark, but it’s definitely stoneware.
And isn’t this the prettiest color combination? Marked Japan.
Judy, thank you. I love these additions to my collection.
Boy, have I been blessed. I don’t take it for granted, believe me. Thank you, one and all.
• By the way, another round of emails went out the other day purporting to be from me. All of this is from the email hack that happened a few months back. Ignore them. They are not from me. One of my readers thought they might be tied in to the WP issue I referenced yesterday. Nope. Just more crap from the hackers. I always receive a copy of your post comments via email, so if you’ve ever left a comment, you’re in that list of email addresses. I’m sorry about that. But we are all familiar enough with these emails that we do ignore them, right?
Never click on anything in any email, unless you are absolutely sure it is to be trusted. If you look at these emails, you can immediately see that they are a sham and not anything that I would write. I get them all the time from friends who have also been hacked. They usually go to spam, which is where they belong.
I hope I never have to write this warning again. I am well and truly tired of the whole thing.
• I’m under the weather today. I’ve been feeling extremely sinusy and/or allergy-ridden, as has Don, but in the last two days it has morphed into something that is almost like a cold. But it isn’t. Last night I barely slept, and I’m congested and coughing and, more than anything, annoyed. I want to work outside, and I did yesterday, but now I’m paying for it. Don made my coffee for me this morning and I’m sitting in my blogging chair feeling sorry for myself.
Waaah. Enough already.
Happy Wednesday.

Fun egg cups Claudia! Some of them make me chuckle. Hope you are feeling better soon. This winter has been hard — in my area there are tons of different stomach bugs going around. But, it does appear that Spring has finally arrived to my neck of the woods. So thankful for that. Take care.
Claudia says
I do love the funny and whimsical egg cups, Vera. Spring is here, too. Finally! It’s supposed to hit 71 degrees today. Huzzah!
Wendy TC says
Sorry you are not up to par, Claudia. My allergies morphed into a cold and I was down and out for over a week. I got rid of everything…cold (rest and LOTS of hot liquids) and allergy symptoms (allergy pill and nasal spray) …in about three weeks. I hope you recover faster. Meanwhile, enjoy looking at your new egg cups! The cute couple look like they’re ready for an evening of elegant dancing.
Claudia says
It’s such a pain because I have do much to do! Out in the garden, mulching, not to mention driving to Hartford in a few days. And it’s beautiful outside today…
Kathy says
My allergies are so bad too. I can’t breathe because I’m so stuffed up. My ears, mouth and eyes are so itchy.
Your new egg cups are cute. I like them on the book shelves.
Claudia says
That’s good to know, Kathy. I was wondering if I should move them somewhere else. I’ve got so much pottery and china, plus the egg cups. They’re everywhere!
Debbie Price says
I really like your egg cups sitting with the books. What a perfect combination! I do hope you and Don feel better soon. So far we haven’t had to many sniffles between Laura and myself this spring.
Rest and read today :)
Hugs,
Deb
Claudia says
I want to buy mulch! And a new garden cart! I’m wondering if I’m up for it…might have to wait until tomorrow.
Tana says
Those new egg cups are wonderful! I don’t think I could get tired of seeing all your egg cups, books, McCoy ware………I could go on. You collect all the things I love. OH, and Don’s jumping jacks! They are great, and just enough to keep out.
Claudia says
We’ll have to highlight the jumping jacks soon!
Linda @ A La Carte says
The egg cups are always a joy to see. I like them on the book shelves. I’m enjoying my new little cup you sent, it is so cute and I see how it matches your ‘couple’. It’s raining today so no outside stuff for me. I’m still pretty tied up helping Sara with the children this week. Blake has work and studying for finals and then he will be home in the evenings. I need to take some photos today but of course the light is awful. Oh well! Feel better soon.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
So much going on in your daughter’s house…new baby, Tiger, Blake working and taking finals…I’m sure they are filled with gratitude for your help, Linda.
Chris k in Wisconsin says
Oh, the allergies and the sinus crud…. it seems like it is plaguing everyone. Another by-product of the explosion of spring.
Lots of rest and liquids might just keep you up and running. It is so hard to make the decision to rest… but usually, when we make it, the results are pretty quick to feeling better. It is when we fight it and keep going that we end up in bed for twice as long as the one day we could have done. Since it is to be 71*, perhaps some rest in the sunshine would be the absolute best thing to do today!! Sunshine on our shoulders… it is always a good thing! :-)
Claudia says
I wandered outside a bit ago – very sunny and warm. I don’t want to take it easy today, but I’m forcing myself to. Hopefully, if I’m a good girl today, we can go and buy mulch tomorrow.
Linda @ Itsy Bits And Pieces says
OH I love how the egg cups look displayed on your shelves! Charming! Sorry to hear you have the crud. I am still not over it…I understand being annoyed. Hope you feel better SOON!
Claudia says
You too, Linda! Isn’t it a pain in the tush? Take care, my friend.
Nancy Blue Moon says
The little couple is so adorable Claudia..The bookshelves are a perfect place to display them ..
Claudia says
Thank you, Nancy!
Janet in Rochester says
So sorry you’re not feeling well. It stinks to be under-the-weather especially when the weather is just beginning to cooperate with us again. As a firm believer in the body’s incredible capacity to repair itself, I say… have yourself a very large hot lemonade [maybe with a nice shot of whiskey] and a serious damn nap in that comfy blogging chair. And some vitamin C too. Put your feet up, get your coziest nap blanket and have at it. Hope you’re feeling better very soon!
Claudia says
I’m sitting in Don’s chair at the moment, thinking I could nod off any minute! I just might.
Judy Clark says
So sorry you are not feeling well. I finally had to find someone to do my yard work because I did it a couple of times and ended up sick for several days after. My allergies just cannot take all of that freshly mowed grass.
Love all of your new egg cups! Aren’t readers the most giving people?
Get well soon. You still need to get that Wellness Formula at Whole Foods. It sure helps me.
Judy
Claudia says
No Whole Foods near me, Judy. Maybe I’ll try to stop by the one near Hartford, if I have time.
Yes, our readers are incredible. xoxo
Donnamae says
Sorry you are not feeling up to snuff…Jim and I just have sore muscles…thank goodness no allergy or sinus stuff to deal with. Of course maybe if we (I) weren’t so landscaping ambitious, we wouldn’t have sore muscles! We’re not doing much today…think our bodies could use a day of rest. My goal is to have everything redone by Memorial Day weekend…and it’s early this year! The egg cups look charming on your bookshelves …it’s the perfect place for them. Lay low if you can today! ;)
Claudia says
I took the pots of impatiens out to the porch, vacuumed, did the dishes…and that’s about all I can handle today, Donnamae. Guess I have no choice but to lay low!
I bet your new landscaping will look gorgeous!
Temporarily in Texas says
I love the egg cups! I love you sharing with us! I really love your Gene Stratton Porter book(s). I have a good collection of her books and love to read them! I’m hoping to visit the Limberlost Swamp some day, even though I know it is pretty much gone. Happy reading and thanks again for sharing
Claudia says
Oh, wouldn’t that be the best trip?! I hope you can make that trip. I’d love to go there, too. I have to re-read that book. I have two editions, the older one that you see clearly in the photo and just two books down, another one that I found that is exactly like the one my grandmother gave me. Which, if you remember a recent post, is most likely in the home of my other sister. That’s another one of mine that she’s got!
Temporarily in Texas says
Have you read any of the other books? I particularly love “Freckles” and “Keeper of The Bees!”
Barbara says
Please don’t get that respiratory bug. It starts like general allergies and then knocks you off your feet for quite a while. If you do think you have it, get to the doctor right away.
Claudia says
Thanks, Barbara. I think it’s just allergies/sinuses gone haywire, which, unfortunately, happens to me occasionally.
gayle says
I love, love the way the egg cups look in front of the books! More is better! I love things layered with books, the line up of these cups is perfection. Feel better soon!
Claudia says
It was just a temporary solution, but I’m getting so many positive comments that maybe I’ll keep them there! Thanks, Gayle.
Laura says
Goodness, your collection has really multiplies. Hope you feel better. I have been going through the same thing. Love spring. Hate the allergies. xo Laura
Patricia says
Bloghing problems are sure going around no one is immune. It’s getting ridiculous.
I’m sorry you didn’t feel well today.
I hope you both get to feeling better.
I think you have been blessed indeed. It’s so wonderful to get a package in the mail … That doesn’t come with strings attached. I like the white double egg cup. Yes, it does seem a little Art Deco-ish
I tried to comment yesterday on your blog – not the day the comments were off… Anyway, couldn’t comment, though others clearly had. I figure it was on my end.
Take care friend.
Vicki says
Well, I’m just sorry you’re feeling lousy; maybe you’ll feel better Thursday. And I just hope for the day when I, too, can find you a fantastic egg cup. The Salvation Army store within a driving distance I like has closed and Goodwill stores here never have egg cups. I’m going to start frequenting more yard sales, mostly for me, but I’ll be on the lookout for you! I’ve been in three antique shops of late and they don’t have any either.
For now, I’m breathing a sigh of relief but only a little one for my best friend of our early 20s whose husband is a mountain climber. He was at 21,000 feet elevation on Everest, above the ice fall, when the quake hit. He’s now made a perilous descent from Camp 2, to Camp 1, then base camp (where they lost their camp physician to the tornadic wind that hit from a rush of ice collapse and falling rock). He’s been helicoptered out to a safer place off the mountain; however, the country is in chaos and it’ll be awhile til he can leave, I assume because of impassable roads, downed bridges and who know’s what (as in trying to get to an airport…think of the breakdown in Communications networks, with phone and power out or all kinds of systems, etc.) but what’s particularly heartbreaking are his words that ‘the gentle people of Nepal’ just didn’t deserve this and he’s just so sad for them.
