This and That

April 28, 2012 at 7:59 pm by Claudia

Thought I’d share some shots from my walks around Hartford:

Hartford is the home of many insurance companies, including Travelers. Recognize their red umbrella?

This Alexander Calder sculpture is next to the Atheneum.
Love the deer. Or is it a stag?
An angel atop the arch in Bushnell Park.
I love this building with the beautiful inlaid tiles next to and between the windows.

And these in the more modern extension that’s been added on to the building in the previous photo.

It’s been a good week, but a stressful one. We’re in that part of rehearsal where everyone is a little tense, trying to make sure they know all their lines as we put the whole play together. I’m taking tomorrow and Monday off and Don is picking me up in the morning. I’ll be glad to get home for a couple of days, though I’m sure I’ll be mowing and cleaning much of the time! I miss my little cottage, my husband and my doggies. I need to be with them.

I’ve been eating too much sugar – rehearsal halls are notorious for sweets. I need to cut back as I’m sure I’ve gained weight. But tonight….I’m treating myself to a Drumstick. I need some comfort food. Hey, it’s been a tough week and I’m only human!

Playing with banners. I’ve uploaded 6 different banners this morning while waiting for Don!

Enjoy your time home. I know how awful it is to be away from home when that is the only place you want to be. Love the pictures and really love the graphic quality of that first picture. xo Diana

Hi Claudia! I am enjoying your lovely pictures of my capital city. The “stag” on the fountain is a Hart! It is the symbol of Hartford, which was named for a city in England, Hertford. The figures are native Americans, as portrayed by the sculptor around 1920. Hope you have a wonderful time at home. Linda

Beautiful architecture in Hartford! Thanks for the peek. Enjoy your time at home, as I know you will even with the chores. Chores have a way of normalizing things. Hope the next week goes well. Ann

Enjoyed the walk around town…………..now hoping your weekend at home was fabulous. Even though chores were many I’m sure, just being at the cottage with your loved ones is well worth the work.

Hang in there – the weeks are flying by hopefully.

Beautiful photographs, Claudia! I especially love the park where the deer/stag is atop that fountain. Thank goodness you have such lovely places to investigate while you’re so far from home… a silver lining to missing your cottage. (Note: I haven’t thought about drumsticks in years! Now I want one!) I hope you have a lovely week ahead and will enjoy your time at home

This and That

March 26, 2009 at 1:21 pm by Claudia

Thought I’d post a few more photos from the Barn Sale that didn’t make it into the first post. Love this birdcage on wheels – oh, if only I lived in a bigger house! My friend Donna would love this.

This sweet corner shelf was so charming, especially with the lace draped over it.

I want this birdhouse…but then there are many things I wanted at this sale.

These are fabric Easter eggs I am in the midst of sewing. Unfortunately, I am having problems with the tension on the Featherweight, so they are on hold until my friend, Ingrid, can stop by and help me out. I haven’t finished stuffing these – they need more Poly-fil – but I love the look of them. In my next post, I’ll give the link to the tutorial for these little cuties.

I have a full day ahead with classes, coaching, a faculty meeting and more coaching. Bye for now.

The birdcage on wheels is fantastic! What a lovely planter it would make. Or…a lovely home…for a bird!

Susan and I sat at auction last night among toothless half wits and children eating large portions of orange cheesy french fries. We stayed late to buy things for a buck while our toes were freezing and to surround ourselves with the most attractive men dressed in flannel and dirty baseball caps…LOL. We spoke of your posting of the barn sale (which we loved) and how things don’t seem as pretty in our world. We both took showers before retiring for the evening…you probably had bon-bons. LOL again!

Oh my gosh… I am drooling! That is the most unique birdcage I’ve ever seen – and rusted to perfection… There’d be no room at my small house for it either, but if money and space were no object!!

I also loved that divider made out of the paned doors… So simple! I would love to have a ‘glass house’ in the backyard made out of glass paned doors all hinged together… Great posts this week, Claudia!… Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

This and that

December 7, 2008 at 11:05 am by Claudia

I’ve just begun my Christmas decorating…I have 3 bins of ornaments and all other things Christmas waiting to be opened, but we have to get our Christmas tree first. I did add some lovely balls to the wreath that hangs permanently on our chimney.

I also strung lights on our porch railing. I love seeing Christmas lights appear on houses in the neighborhood. I can’t help but smile.

Look at the cupcakes I made!

Alas, I didn’t make these. They are fizzy soap cupcakes from the shop. Aren’t they adorable? One of our customers bought some and said she was going to display them on her cake plate when she didn’t have any baked goods on hand. I readily admit to taking her idea and running with it. They look so cheery on the island and there they will stay until I bake again. That might not happen for a long while, as both my husband and I are on diets.

Have a great day. More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
