This Being Sick Stinks

September 28, 2014 at 8:50 am by Claudia

Crap-ola.

And some other words I choose not to use on this blog. But you can bet I’m using them offline.

That’s how I feel.

I’m coughing constantly. I’m waking up in the middle of the night..coughing. I’m blowing my nose…constantly. I simply feel rotten. I worked yesterday and it was a struggle: coaching actors one-on-one while sucking on a lozenge hoping to stem the tide of coughing, only to have to temporarily halt the session while I collapsed into a coughing fit. Not fun.

Today I also have to work, but only to about 12:30, thank goodness. Here’s the part that stinks…besides the being sick thing…I was planning to drive home today and spend tomorrow mowing the lawn, checking in on things, picking up the mail, etc. But, even though my heart says go for it, I know that I’m simply not up to it. It’s a two hour drive and I don’t want to be driving on the Interstate while being overcome by a coughing fit.

And, really, do I think I’m up to mowing our massive front lawn? Short answer: no.

Hopefully, I can swing a quick trip back home later in the week.

But for now, I think I have to hang out in the hotel room and get better.

Gosh, I wish Don and I had the same days off. I need some husbandly care-giving. I miss him. He would rub my back and get me orange juice and say comforting things.

tunnel position

Dame Scout in the tunnel position. I usually sit in that chair and watch TV or go online.

s on quilt

Quilt position. I got up to leave the room for a minute and this is where I found her. She moved from her tunnel position to the quilt. Who knows why? All I know is she’s awfully cute. And she’s really good company.

Hopefully, I’ll be up to taking her to the park later.

Almost forgot: It’s my dad’s 91st birthday today.

Happy Sunday.

I’ve been battling the same illness for almost 3 weeks. Every time I feel like I am getting better, I have a relapse. This is a wicked virus. Take special care and snuggle with Scout :)

It’s probably best if you stay put…and rest. I think the worst is when you get sick…and there is no one to comfort you. Crap-ola indeed! ;)

    Ms. Scoutie,
We Bower Kitties prescribe this for our Momma when she gets the crap-ola maybe it will help your Momma too. A warm bath, with water. (Scoutie, stay away from that water stuff. We all know water should only be used for drinking, but sometimes our Mom’s just have to relax in it. We know, we just don’t get it either.) Hot tea with honey and lemon for her cough and sore throat, rest and many cuddly cat naps. We’re not sure if dogs know how to cat nap, but Scoutie, you have to do your best and “wing it”.
Hopefully this will help. If not, you still got to cuddle and sleep with your Momma and that ain’t all bad.
    Fondly,
    Mickey and Mizzou

Wish I could send you some ginger-lemon tea ….it really works to calm my coughs. Ricola Honey Lozenges do the trick for my coughs during Church. Staying hydrated is important.
I feel so badly for you, I know how you must feel to be sick with no one around to comfort you…except Scout. Take care and know that we are all feeling your discomfort and would like to help.

Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.

Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there
that I’m totally confused .. Any tips? Thanks a lot!

I don’t blame you for not wanting to drive and risk having a coughing attack. When my head is stuffed I tend to get a bit off balance so I don’t even try to drive. Your girl looks so sweet. Glad she’s there to keep you company. Hope you feel better soon Claudia. I can’t imagine being sick and having to coach actors. Bless you!

Oh, I hope you are able to get some rest after your morning of work. I bet having Scout there does help a bit ~ esp since you can’t be at home. There is a lot of that crud going around. Keep hydrated!!
Hope it was a very uneventful day and that you begin to feel better. Don’t try to answer all of us, just take the time to rest. We totally understand!! Take care!

Well I know you’d like to head home and check on things. Be really, I think we all agree you need the rest!
the house will be fine, the yard will be fine. No worries!
Just get well. I know you probably don’t feel like taking Scout to the park…at home she could just go into the run will you sit and veg on the porch or where ever. But the fresh air and exercise will probably be good for you. Don’t I sound like a MOM?!
    Rest friend.
Hopefully, you’ll get to see Don soon enough.
hang in there, praying for speedy recovery.

Oh no! Hope you feel better soon. The cold crud has hit early this year huh?? I’m going to try elderberry to keep us well this season. I’ve read great things about it.
Hope you recover soon and enjoy the rest of your teaching trip.
Scout looks like a great remedy to help you feel better.
    Happy Birthday to your Father.

Claudia, I remember last year, when your readers sent dozens of birthday wishes to your Dad on his 90th. Please give him my best regards. And blessings to you; may you feel better very soon. You received some great advice from your readers. Tea, naps, fresh air, cuddles with Scout. Take care.

So sorry you feel so bad. Wondering if your getting Lyme’s disease has your immune system low. You do need some chicken soup and some TLC.
Glad you have your furry one keeping you company. Feel better.
Glad you decided not to drive home. That yard will wait.

I’m so sorry that you have such a miserable virus, especially away from home. You probably know all the tricks in the book to lessen the symptoms and possibly shorten the duration…extra rest, push a lot of fluids (especially water and tea), extra vitamin C and possibly some echinacea, oregano oil…if you’re head is stuffy, steaming your face over a pot of hot water, humidifier in your room (probably not possible since you’re away from home). Sending get well wishes your way!

How are you feeling this morning. I hope each day is better for you.
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate you and Dawn keeping the felt project going for just the few of us left. I have enjoyed making these little “felties” so much and will continue working with felt after this project is finished.
Get well and don’t worry about posting a pattern for this month. We have the Peacock to work on and that will keep us busy.
    Take care….Hugs, Balisha

I hope you’re feeling better by now Claudia. It’s no fun being sick especially head colds. Good that you have Scout for company even if your back isn’t getting rubbed. I hope this week finds you feeling better.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
