11-20 lambchop&baby

Lamb Chop and Baby Lamb Chop. They’re hanging out by my side of the bed these days. They make me smile.

As soon as I took this picture, protests for equal time were heard reverberating through the upstairs walls.

11-20 lamb on bookshelf

A gift from Sheila.

11-20 two sheep

On the left, a gift from Judy. On the right, a gift from Lori (owner of Vignettes in San Diego.)

11-20 lamb with party hat

And the Lamb With The Party Hat – star and symbol of this blog.

I love my little lambs and sheep. My sister, also a lover of all things sheep, has even more than I do!

I put a new Obsession Scarf in the Etsy shop yesterday evening and within minutes, it sold! I couldn’t believe how quickly it went. It’s in a particularly lovely colorway in blues and purples. If you see something and it’s snapped up before you can buy it, let me know. I do take orders and I am happy to make one up for you and reserve it on Etsy under your name. I’m only crocheting these scarves for a limited time, and I’m just about to order some more yarn. So let me know.

By the way, I keep meaning to tell you this: the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree for 2015 came from our little town.  Yep. The whole thing happened while I was away in Florida. At first, I was sad because I hate the idea of cutting down a magnificent tree that has lived so many years, but a friend of mine assured me that the owners were worried it was going to fall on their house and were going to cut it down anyway. Big trucks came down Main Street (where the tree was located) and a crowd gathered and pictures and selfies were taken and the next time we see the tree, it will be at Rockefeller Center.

I try to avoid the political on this blog, but really, the anti-immigrant fear-baiting rhetoric I’m hearing is simply appalling to me. We’re talking about a humanitarian crisis that is being used for political purposes. If you are my friend on Facebook, you know how I feel about this. And anyone spewing such xenophobia who calls himself/herself a Christian might want to reread Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Immediately.

I’m stopping there, but believe me, I could write a lot more.

Happy Friday.

She’s frailer than she was. She falls a lot because of her bad hip. But she’s hanging in there and we love her.

I now must see, through pictures only, the tree at Rockefeller Center! I do hope that they obtain the trees from people, like those in your town, as ones that may need to come down anyway. It would be a wonderful send off for the tree!
I have such mixed feelings about the whole refugee thing that seems to be swamping the media. I want to help them so very much. It is a crisis that tears at my heart. My fear? That we will allow them to come here and then not really help them. We already have so many homeless that live in the States that are not helped and they are from this country! I do not want us, America, to give these needy people a false hope, as that is the last thing they need. We must make sure these people get help, not more worries. Ugh….
I do hope you, Don and Scout have a nice weekend. Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving? This year has flown by!

Your point is a very important one, Debbie. We need to follow through with all of our citizens that are in need. We cannot fail them.

As a military brat who lived in France and Germany during the Cold War and faced threats from Algerian terrorists and Baader Meinhoff terrorists I feel my viewpoint is different from many others. I fear the Xenophobia and hatred being spewed by so many. People have to realize this is what terrorists want. They want us to live in fear. They want us to hate so they can use that hatred as justification for their actions. I choose to live life fully without fear. I choose to be aware of my surroundings but not give into fear. I choose love over hatred. My fears are for my friends and relatives — Ayteken who is Muslim, Leslie who is married to a Muslim, and my granddaughter whose other grandmother is Filipino. The most accepted prejudice now is against those who are “brown” and could be Muslim and therefore a terrorist. ISIS is to Islam as the KKK and Westboro Baptist Church are to Christianity. They are perverting religion to justify their actions. We can’t match hatred with hatred. We can’t allow fear to over rule common sense.

Thank you, Laura. I was thinking the same thing this morning…that if we turn on each other and give in to fear, we’re letting the terrorists win. You are very wise and I thank you for sharing your thoughts this morning. I might write some more on this subject next week as we head toward Thanksgiving, which I believe, was holiday celebrated by those who immigrated to this country.

Oh, I remember how much I loved Lamb Chop! What frightens me is how many people buy into the anti-immigrant rhetoric and the xenophobia; if that is what guides us, I’m worried that we will become a nation ruled by terrorists of our own making. I hope you & Don & Scout have a nice weekend!

    Lambchop….oh how I loved Lambchop.
Politics…UGH…I was struck though by a posting where people are sending their used baby carriers for refugees to manage their infants etc. I will be sending one that I found at a garage sale..sometimes it is the simplest things that can help people.
In the midst of all the political talk, I hope we finally begin to help all our homeless vets that have served our country…there are so many of them…..
    P.S. I sent you a message on ETSY….

Most definitely. We need to help all of the homeless, including our homeless vets. And we need to help all those who need refuge and aid. Got your message, Cindy, and messaged you back.

I loved Shari Lewis and Lambchop, still do! Your little sheep are so sweet! I too am saddened by the political rhetoric about the refugees. We have to keep our hearts open. I saw on the news that a Muslim in Paris covered his eyes and had a sign that said I love you I’m not afraid of you if you aren’t afraid of me give me a hug. How vulnerable can you be with your eyes covered like that and your arms open. Many gave him a hug. It moved me and reminded me we are all human. Yes the terrorists frighten me but I don’t want to let them win and dictate my life. Off my soap box now. So enjoy your special day tomorrow.
    hugs,
    Linda

I saw that same story and I found it so moving. That it should even have to happen is the sad thing.

The terrorists cannot win and our staying humane and loving to all can only help us in this battle.

How very interesting about the Christmas tree being from where you live!

I wish you a healing weekend, Claudia. We’re getting assaulted by the heaviest headlines these days and you’re already dealing with enough personal emotion. Don’t let it take you down. Get out there and breathe some air this weekend if you can and, truly, your scarves are such an excellent activity for you right now…and they are absolutely gorgeous.

I loved Lamb Chop and Shari too..and the little Putz Lambs…I have tried hard to find a putz lamb but people were asking outrageous prices for them..maybe I will get lucky this year…What is wrong with these governors?.. scaring their people into being prejudice…I have never heard of such a thing in this country…I am so glad that our Gov. Wolfe is not in on this craziness…Think of all the little children who are scared and so far from their homes…Wouldn’t you want someone to be kind to you…You can not blame a whole group of people for the actions of one sick person…Never! Ever!

I am in absolute agreement with you. We look at Nazi Germany and the yellow stars that Jews had to wear like it’s a dim memory generated by a madman. This kind of fear mongering, this assuming all Muslims are potential terrorists? The same kind of thinking.

Donald Trump is in SC today and has said all Muslims should have to register with the government. We are becoming Nazi Germany and it’s very scary.

The little lambs are absolutely precious. They make me smile.
The politicians and the 31 Governors….. not so much. Comparing people to rabid dogs, and calling for registering those seeking asylum… it sounds WAY TOO reminiscent of a monster who once lived in Germany. The fear mongering is what is most frightening. And those who applaud when the words are thrown out~ that, to me, is terror.
The disenfranchised are looking to belong…. to anyone or anything. What are we offering to them? Have they been bullied and are now ready for anyone to finally accept them? All of this hate is toxic and terrifying. As Maya Angelou is credited with saying: ” Hate. It has caused a lot of problems in this world, but it has not solved one yet.”

I understand why you hesitated to make any political comments, Claudia. But I’m glad you did anyway. The only reason we’re hearing rhetoric now is because it affords the various Presidential candidates air time and media attention. Unfortunately, more than a couple of them sound like absolute morons. And it is scary in a very real sense. I want a second opinion, if you know what I mean. Take care and have a great weekend. ?? ??

PS – congrats on having a hometown tree at Rockefeller Center! That has GOT to be the most beautiful Christmas tree – every year it looks better. A few times a year, my Mom went to NY for weekends with her girlfriends after they all became empty-nesters – and they loved their December trip the best, with all NY’s gorgeous decorations, the stores etc. ⭐️⭐️

This week has, and continues to be, one of great sadness – I’ve really had trouble keeping the tears at bay. I’m even nervous in my own town and wishing I could move far out into a small country place.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
