Through My Window

March 20, 2017 at 9:25 am by Claudia

Imagine my delight when I saw these two sitting on the branch of a tree on the edge of the woods.

I love my mourning doves. I’ve been hearing them for while now, but this is the first time I’ve seen them.

This guy was on the tree near corral. (All of these photos were shot through the window in the kitchen door.)

In the midst of all the snow, these sightings give me hope that Spring will eventually come. I know today is officially the start of Spring, but…piles and piles of snow.

Though it is  melting.

Today I’m going to gather together everything I will need in NYC. Tomorrow morning, I head south to the city to work on Anastasia. Though I’ll miss my little cottage, I am so looking forward to seeing it on stage at the Broadhurst!

We will ignore the elephant in the room: Don left about a half hour ago. I cried. I’m having a hard time with it.

The winner of Big Ideas for Small Spaces  is Sandra. Sandra, I’ve sent you an email and I need your mailing address. Congratulations!

Another gardening book and giveaway is on the docket for tomorrow.

Happy Monday.

You are so strong and things will go well for you and Don! Be encouraged to know that so many of us care about you – you aren’t alone and neither is Don. Happy Spring!

The color of the sky is striking in your pics…happy to see your buddies are back. Saw the sunrise this morning…gorgeous on this first day of spring. Most of our snow is gone except for the occasional patch. Hoping that we are all done with that until next winter. Sending hugs…and wishing you safe travels! ;)

We still have tons of snow, but it is melting, so maybe by the time I get back on Sunday, it will be minimal?

Sweet Claudia, my husband used to work out of town for long periods. Not fun. I used the time to rearrange the house, yardwork, finishing projects, read books…you get it and already do it. All you can do. Go see those horses when you can go out walking so you can tell Don how they are doing. The best thing to happen for us was facetime. Soooo nice to talk together face to face.

Love the pics. I had 15 doves on my fence because I have a heated birdbath. Yippee! They are so calming. Wish I had that squirrel too!

    Hugs.

“My” mourning doves returned after a year’s absence from my garden while it was being re-landscaped. Sooooo happy they are back! Totally understand how you’re feeling, Claudia. It will take a bit to get into a groove, and Anastasia work will be a distraction for a week. You know how to fill up your time, and Verna’s suggestion of going out to see the horses is an excellent one. Many virtual hugs from all of us, but I know they aren’t hugs from Don. You’ll get them soon, you’ll see…..

Just keep busy today, Claudia. You’ve got a lot going on in the next few days.

Amazing photos, as always. You are a nature photographer!

Reading much this morning about philanthropist David Rockefeller, the last of that prominent family (of his generation). End of an era. He loved New York; I read his memoir sometime back.

I’ve developed a new problem of not sleeping well. I feel like I’m awake twenty times a night for no reason; hope it’s not apnea but going to the doctor today to troubleshoot. Could also be hormones (menopause), for which I can’t take any therapy due to my previous bout with cancer. But what a nuisance; I’m so exhausted and yearn for a good night’s sleep. Although I’m also supremely happy because my simply-horrible-awful-bad neighbor of the past eight years finally moved…and to the other side of the country…which was confirmed to me last night by another neighbor. It’s one of the brighter sides of time, and how it marches on sometimes to our advantage!

Sorry about the sleep problems. I had them when I was going through menopause – very frustrating! Glad your neighbor is gone!

I love hearing these descriptions! Here on the West Coast, it’s orange blossoms, like little white star clusters on the trees at the same time they’re dropping oranges. The scent on the evening coastal breeze is like none other; just wonderful, so sweet and clean.

My doves have been here for a while sitting on the top of the garage and then funnily trying to eat from the bird feeder. They are just too big they sort of stand sideways and then flip out a lot of seed. The squirrels are always around to tidy up. luckily while Don is away you do have the play to concentrate on, this will help. I know you will be part for a while but as you say that is the nature of your businesses. Hyacinths are beginning to poke their heads up in back garden, hoping for the best. My early daffodils did not survive , too much cold. Take care

But the work on the play will only take up about 5 days…

Our doves never leave. They are always here. Soooo many of them!! They seem to be ground feeders. They seldom try to sit upon the feeders, but are always there at the bottom.

When does Anastasia open? How much more work do you have on the production? It is wonderful that you both have work ahead. The time apart will be quite difficult I am sure, but it is wonderful to have texting and face-time options available. But so not the same as being in the next room…. they have yet to figure that out. Technology can only do so much!

They’ve probably been here, as well. I just haven’t seen them. Anastasia starts previewing this week, but it doesn’t officially open until April 24th.

I love to listen to the Morning Doves. We have a few male and female Cardinals that come in our back yard. I have not seen any Robins yet. Will keep Don in my thoughts and prayers for a safe trip. Congratulations to Sandra on winning the giveaway. Enjoy.

    Claudia,
So sorry you had to say good bye to Don for a little while and I know that must hurt…meanwhile your photography is just lovely. I get the sweetest love of Nature around my woods and and near my giant tree…There is an oak that i share with neighbors and the oak is supposedly just barely over 200 yrs old! It is narly in places but it is well tended to. I love it and squirrels have their nests in various parts of it.

Enjoy your week as best you can~~ love to you.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
