Very, very cold. Water dripping from the taps so the pipes don’t freeze. Waking up in the middle of the night with a coughing jag.
I’ll be glad when all of this has passed.
I heard the shocking news that one of my former students passed away yesterday. Lonnie was a student of mine at Boston University and what a bright light he was. Kind, compassionate, funny, wise – he spent the years after graduating working for those in need, especially those who were suffering from AIDS. His extraordinary work touched thousands and, in reading the comments about him on Facebook, it is clear that he made a real difference in so many lives. He had a heart attack last week. We thought he was doing better. But his wife wrote yesterday that his brain activity was profoundly affected by the heart attack and they made the decision to take him off life support.
He had a four year old daughter.
I hadn’t talked to him in person for years, but we occasionally communicated via FB. All of us in the Boston University theater community are shocked and deeply saddened. He was such a fine person. An angel here on earth. Gone far too soon.
Stay warm out there.
Happy Thursday.

Claudia, I’m so sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose someone so young. I hope you start to feel better soon. This cold weather and being sick is horrible. We have sunshine again but it is cold. My Mom is doing better so I’m trying to get some work done around the house today. Piles of laundry is not attractive decor. Hugs.

So sorry to hear about your friend, Claudia. Working with AIDS patients is next to Godliness, in my book. It sounds like the world has suffered a loss, too. Stay warm and feel better.

Deepest condolences on the loss of your student & friend. I think I know how you feel. I taught 1st grade for 9 years & about 20 years after I’d moved on from that [I was working in admissions at one of our local universities] I happened to hear – can’t even remember how – of the death of one of my little kids in a car accident. Hadn’t seen Missy in all that time but had very fond memories of the sweetest little girl who used to sit by my desk & “chat” with me before class started in the mornings, while all the kids were coming in. It was really a shock & a deep sadness. Shouldn’t have happened. I even remember feeling angry about it – it was just wrong to have happened to anyone so young. I remember she liked poetry & her mother [an artist] had painting Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Swing” on her bedroom wall, which Missy showed me when I visited her home. We used to say the poem together sometimes in school. I’ll never forget the smile on her face when we were done. Anyways, much sympathy on the loss of your friend. Peace.💔

I am so sorry for your loss of a friend. Sounds like he had a remarkable life….he was taken much too soon.
It is still very chilly here…but, this should be the last day of this polar vortex thing. Course….they are saying….this could happen again due to climate change…oh joy!
Stay warm my friend! ;)

Claudia, I’m so sorry that you’ve lost a student and friend. Knowing he left his wife, who had to make the dreadful decision of taking him off life support, and a very young daughter is heart-breaking. I hope both of them have a tight-knit community of support.
Are you feeling stronger? I hope the coughing does not last long after the other symptoms have gone away. Keep drinking liquids to keep those respiratory membranes moist and allow the irritated places to heal.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Sometimes there are no words or ways to understand how things like this happen to truly good people. I send you wishes of peace and healing.

I’m sorry for your loss Claudia. How wonderful that your friend was able to touch so many in the short time he had here. Kindness trumps everything.
I received my Maileg mouse today and I absolutely love it. The packaging
(minimal and all recyclable) was adorable. I am hooked and have to keep reminding myself this is supposed to be a gift. Thanks again for the introduction to such a sweet line of toys.

So sad about the loss of your friend. So sad for his young family too.
Hope you’re back to feeling 100% soon. If you have to be ill, this is a good time for it since we’re stuck inside because of the extreme cold. The bright side is, after this polar vortex passes, each time the temp tops out in the high thirties, low forties, we’ll think it feels like spring.

I am also very sorry to hear about your loss. So difficult for his family with such a young child.
Your cough will abate I pray. When I lived in cold weather places I found it too easy to get sick when outside in cold weather. You love your home and I hope you will be up and enjoying all of your fine activiteis soon,
