Thursday Morning Snapshots

July 29, 2010 at 9:51 am by Claudia

Ah yes, a slightly rainy, humid Thursday morning with a cup of coffee and…what’s that to the left? Yep. Poison Ivy Care. I regret to say that after 5 years of successfully navigating the poison ivy that grows all around this property, it finally won. Don’t know how, don’t know when. My right ankle is the lucky recipient of this lovely rash and it’s driving me nuts. I don’t know how all of you do it when you get a really bad attack! Mine is limited to the ankle and thank goodness for that. It might be getting ever so slightly better.

This time I didn’t leave the flowered mug behind in San Diego. I’m not sure why I left it there last year, but gosh darn it, I bought it and it deserves to be holding my coffee in MHC. Doesn’t it look at home here?

Today is cleaning day. After I get my tush in gear, it will be full throttle for me, cleaning gear in hand. I will be taking no prisoners. The dogs will be bored, of course…I care not.

Remember the beautiful gift Maryjane gave me when we spent the afternoon together in San Diego? I’ve been wondering where to hang it. The other day when I was fussing with the studio, I hit upon an idea. What do you think?

Let’s face it, the front of the craft table is a boring white. Maryjane, you have come to the rescue! Your gorgeous garland looks perfect here and it makes me happy.

I’m off to spritz some more treatment spray on my ankle and start my cleaning. Have a great day.

Claudia, use the spray lots and don’t scratch! Sorry that you had to tangle with the dreaded leaves. I am so glad that I live in AZ at times like this. All I have to contend with is cactus. Easy to avoid! Get well soon and don’t work too hard.

    Love the garland!

Oh no, I feel for you. My husband is covered in it at the moment! I Wish I had some advice. I’l tell you, what I tell him.
STOP SCRATCHING AT IT, WILL YA!
With love and total understanding, of course.

Hopefully it will ease soon and you can enjoy the day,
    Hugs,

I love, love, love that beautiful banner. Isn’t it awesome when you receive such unexpected gifts that are so gorgeous.

I’m sorry you have poison ivy! Jeesh, I hope you aren’t scratching it too much and it goes away soon.

Have a wonderful weekend. See you on Pink Saturday my friend.

After moving to mid-MO some twenty-plus years ago earlier this summer I ran into the dreaded Poison Ivy for the first time. Gad, what an ordeal.
I used Zanfel and Calamine Lotion – – for thirty days.

I may just follow your lead and stock up on a bottle or two of
    Cortaid Poison Ivy Care.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I’m in love with your coffee mug ! !

    Hi Claudia,

I haven’t been here to visit in awhile. Where does the time go? So sorry you have poison ivy! Glad it seems to be getting better. It’s humid, and dreary here today too in central NJ. Good cleaning day. I so want to make a lemon merangue pie, but I don’t want to put the oven on. Happy cleaning, I will be doing the same. :)

I love the garland there, Claudia! Perks that table right up. I’m sorry about the poison ivy. I had it one time, just over a year ago. Thought I’d go completely crazy. It was all over me. Had to go to the ER. I’d been helping out the elderly lady next door by cleaning out her flower beds.

Claudia, I think you’re found the perfect spot for that sweet gift.

And I’m so sorry you have poison ivy! I used to get it so bad during the summer and would even get it in my eyes. My cousin did, too. When we were little, we would often have it at the same time. So I sympathize with you.

eeewe! Poison Ivy is dreadful! My poor sister used to get it so bad her entire face would swell up like a balloon! I’ve only had it once and that was enough for me. I read somewhere that if you rub a dryer sheet over your arms and legs before you go outside, it will help repel it but I don’t know if it works or not. Hop you stop itching soon, Nan

Oh no, the dreaded poison ivy! Take care and watch it carefully. I once dug up a lot of sumac and rashed so badly I took prednisone for a week. The banner is very sweet! Clean for me as it is so hot at our old house I will be reading a magazine. bigsqueeze♥olive

You are the second person who has written about poison ivy this week! The other one said she has never been allergic to it before. Oh, no! I have never had it. Will I get it this year? It must be stronger this year…at least in the northeast and in oklahoma!

Feel better! Love that mug and yes, it most definitely belongs with you at MHC. Enjoy your cleaning – I’ve been working on organizing my dishes, etc ever since seeing a post about ‘Where Do You Keep It All?’ on Between Naps on the Porch. Now I’m driven to organize and my basement shelves look like a mini Home Goods. Yikes, I better keep out of the stores for a while. Ciao, bella!

PS Love where you hung those vintage cards – just perfect!

    I do love that banner..

A poison Ivy tip.. when you come in from playing around in the yard, wash exposed areas with water and Phels Naptha soap. It takes the Poison Ivy oils out of the skin and prevents a breakout. You can get it in most grocery stories.. it’s not pretty, more like a utility bar, but it works.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
