Tiaras and Tails

February 26, 2014 at 8:41 am by Claudia

scouttiara

Oh yes.

She has a tiara now.

Tina and Noble, of course. They thought it only proper. After all, she is a Dame.

And she’s had to put up with a lot lately. Slippery ice, snow, terrible weather, her beloved daddy far away.

A little glitter is good for the soul, don’t you think?

scouttiara2

After all, she is my pretty girl and pretty girls love tiaras.

It’s very cold again. Yesterday, I spent an hour shoveling snow onto the paths in Scout’s dog corral. They had become so icy that both of us were slipping and sliding on them. She seems to be navigating them a bit more securely now.

All this happened after I had a meltdown on the phone with Don the night before and he was treated to the sound of me screaming about how much I hate this ice and snow and how treacherous it is and how I am sick to death of it and I want to move and I hate it here.

Unlike my girl, it wasn’t pretty. And I’m not exaggerating when I say I was screaming.

Bless Don for listening and not thinking I am a nutcase. Or, at least, not believing it for more than a moment.

The next morning, sanity prevailed and I went out there with a shovel and a “I’ll show you!” attitude. Which led to a hot shower and aspirin for my aching back, shoulder and arm.

seltzermoxie

The aqua seltzer bottle ended up here. I thought seltzer and a guy in tails made perfect sense together. I added the pale aqua Moxie bottle and a piece of McCoy for a splash of contrasting color.

I like it.

Happy Wednesday.

Oh Scoutie, you are simply stunning in your tiara. Keep your mommy smiling through this trying winter. My little Lolo, wearing her “cone collar”, discovered something so cute last night as we got another dusting of snow….she used it as a scoop along our front sidewalk. It was a clever way for her to gather up a quick snow cone!

We all need a melt down moment at times to shed the buildup of frustration we often feel. This winter is worthy of multiple meltdowns. I have said many-a-time this winter that I will NOT endure winters in the midwest once my son is out of high school and my hubby can be more flexible with his job. I’m not sure where we will go or how we will do it, but I have about six or seven years to get it figured out.

Loved the placement of the blue seltzer bottle!

After a very scary weekend with her completely not acting herself – Lolo is starting to feel better. With a problem liver, the morphine and codeine didn’t settle well neurologically with her. Now that those meds are out of her system, she is acting better but still has to be careful with the incision from her spay and liver biopsy. Still awaiting the results – but fully expecting having a liver doggie that we’ll try to treat medically and just hope to enjoy her as long as we can. Sorry I can’t send Lolo your way….sounds like we’re in for another big snow this weekend and I’ll need her to help scoop with her cone! ha!

Oh! Love Dame Scout in her tiara, so much fun! She is much loved by her subjects and what wonderfully talented subjects she has in her dominion. Dame Scout should put out a proclamation that Tina and Noble are to be known as artisans of the realm.

I’m so very sorry for all you’ve had to go through, all by yourself. It is simply too too much! You have handled it very well – I would have erupted long ago, in your shoes. And I would have crumbled into a heap. Sending you lots and lots of hugs. Take good care of yourself!

Hurray! So happy for you! A day to breathe and catch up and a day free of shovels! WHEW. Hoping you can slip something you love in there too Claudia … hot chocolate, a quilt-making session for your new nephew (A BIG Congratulations to all! xo), a favorite movie, a new book, a bubble bath, a cuddle with precious Scout? Give yourself a gift of something, you’ve been through so much. We’re supposedly going to get some much needed rain the next few days, starting tonight — is more snow forecast for you? If you were in MO I would send my cousins husbands over to snow plow for you, that’s what they do in the winter – mow the rest of the year and clear snow in the winter. Thinking of you and Dame Scout!
Oh! I read in the comments you got to see Maggie Smith on stage … Love her so much! I got to see her a lifetime ago in “Private Lives”. I can remember Brian Bedford was in it too but can’t remember the other actors. I’ll have to research that!

(I just reread my previous comment – it reads like my cousins husband snow plows for something like the fun of it… I meant that they have a landscape business most of the year and then snow plow business in the winter.)

Scout does look regal! I had forgotten she was a Dame. That should be Dame Scout looks regal! (Hope she will forgive me.). The only nice part of living in a city is, we have sand barrels…and a city sand pile not to far from our house. So if it gets too slippery…we just go get some sand. It’s supposed to start warming up March 1st….hang in there….it IS going to warm up and melt! I love the seltzer bottle pairing with that drawing/sketch….brilliant! ;)

With that tiara, Scout is ready to audition as Maggie Smith’s best friend on “Downton Abbey.” Imagine the scene-stealing that would go on then! Perfect. PS – try kitty litter as a replacement for salt. Won’t melt ice but does provide a reasonable amount of traction.

I’m hoping that next year you can find some extra money to buy some sort of a snow blower. Once you do that you probably won’t need it! Lol! Of course I wouldn’t know how to start one or use one since my husband takes care of our neighbor driveways here. My body wouldn’t be able to take the shoveling that you do. Oh Claudia, to live with royalty, how sweet. I’m liking that seltzer bottle with your dapper guy, too. This horrible winter has left you with creativity, at least. My issue is no longer snow, but water leaks in the basement. I had my own version of Screaming Fit yesterday evening when I discovered it. Plumber coming today, I hope. I must get all the messy things fixed before I leave for OZ at the end of the month. I cannot dump them on my sons to deal with them. I will be visiting daughter for three months. I’m taking photo lessons to insure proof of travels! It’s so cold here today, Polar Vortex is back with a vengeance. Stay warm. Hedy

We need our meltdowns so we can dust ourselves off and get back at it. It all accumulates inside, and like a steam valve, it needs a release. We women of the snow-world are strong…. after all, ANYONE can do temperatures of 50’s ~ 70’s. What accomplishment is that?? We must be of strong stock ~ or just dumb because we stay,,,,, not sure which. Perhaps it is simple brain freeze, and like childbirth, the flowers of Summer, and the colors of Fall make us forget.
Scout’s tiara is priceless, although she doesn’t look like she is quite sure of the picture being taken. From her look, I would say she is gathering ammunition for a Scout Post coming up!! I bet she has a notepad somewhere with lots of jotting!
It is nearly noon and it JUST got to 1*. Wind Chill Advisories again. No break for at least the next 7 days. “We are (Northern) women, hear us ROAR” (or weep), depending on the moment. Take care, kiddo!!

    Hi,

I have sweet dog (yellow lab) with arthritis in her spine and other mobility problems. To slove the ice problem I put down several scatter rugs for her to walk on when she goes outside, then I bring them in and then put back out as needed. She feels a lot safer and I think happy for the rugs! I hope spring comes soon for you.

The rugs sound like my towel idea. Since you do have so much to cover to get Scout out there, I wonder if maybe something like mulch might work ~ you could toss it ahead of her like a bridesmaid tosses rose petals lol….though now that I think of it, that might create other problems. Anyway, beautiful photos of Dame Scout as usual.

We’ve had enough of this long winter in Michigan too. It’s too dangerous to walk my dogs in the neighborhood because the walks have ice patches. Several times I’ve almost fallen in the dog trenches in the backyard. I understand why you had a meltdown. I don’t know how the Alaskans do it. I would go nuts! Will we ever see green grass and warmer temperatures? It must be worse with Don away. Love your blue seltzer bottle. It’s perfect with the tuxedo print.

Left for work and train at 6:30 this morning. My Mini Cooper thermometer only goes to 0 degrees, which is what it registered. The train station in Poughkeepsie had temp as 3 degrees. As it is usually 10 degrees higher from where we all live, I can only surmise that it was-7 degrees BEFORE wind chill in our part of the woods. Stay strong, my friend! Take a break Sunday and come over for some comfort food and chit chat. Maybe we will all do the dance to the Spring gods to hasten the arrival of buds, sunshine and baby robins. Cheers, Tina
