A Tiny Dress Form

December 28, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

I found this little dress form when I was doing some Christmas shopping in one of our local antique stores. It isn’t old or even vintage – the body is made of papier mache – and it was only a few dollars. I thought it would work perfectly as a necklace hanger – at least until I get a life-size dress form. I might paint the whole thing white and antique it a little. Or should I leave it as is? What do you think?

Happy Monday!

That’s adorable, Claudia. Dress forms are so pretty. I’ve seen so many life-sized ones on blogs and people get so creative with them!

I think yours looks great as is – but you know me – I also think a distressed white (or pink or robin’s egg) would look fantastic!

For Christmas, we made most of our gifts for each other as we’re pretty cash strapped these days. I bought each of the girls a “jewelry hand” and then personalized them by painting them in the girls’ favorite colors, etc (a future blogpost). You’d think that I’d have remembered to take before photos, especially now that I blog, but I didn’t!

So if you do change yours, at least we’ve been able to see the “before” photos! Have a wonderful week, Claudia!… Donna

What a coincidence! I am just trying to make a little dress form 12th scale out of paper mache myself! It is very messy, and I’m a long way off making it look the way I want it to. Yours is a beautiful little dress form. Great find! I like it the way it is, but I like wood and its colours.
The necklaces look very pretty on it.

It is so sweet! I really love it the way it is, but I have also seen some really nice dress forms covered in old book pages and whitewashed over that.

I like it as it is, but white would be pretty also, but why not your favorite color? That would be pretty also, honey.

I bet you’ll paint it…or not! Either way it’s a cute necklace stand! I have a big one wearing an antique muslin dress and drapped in a crocheted shawl I made for my grandmother, Minnie. I’ll have to show it on CIT one of these days. When I saw your form I thought it might be tiny enough for your doll house. Happy New Year, Claudia.

    Well Claudia,
I am a paint it white person, but, the white jewelry does show up well on it in the light satin.

I hoped maybe you had made it and would show us how. =0)

    blessings in 2010.

Claudia…I like the natural look, but I still haven’t rid myself of the “white” obsession. So, I’m not much help.

I spent lots of time catching up…we had a similar light experience with red lights…$22 at Ace in the village and my husband bought them, trying to please me. They went back, and then he bought some candles that were the wrong size, back they went. We may not be welcome again.

It was a quiet Christmas here with our son. Not so many presents, lots of good food, and each other’s company.

    Oh, how cute, Claudia!

I like it like it is, but if you paint it, I vote for that wonderful shade of Robin’s egg, maybe teal which is the universal color. That way, you can hang pink things on it and have that great combo.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
