Tiny Treasures

September 19, 2011 at 10:40 am by Claudia

Two of my former students won Emmy awards last night. Jim Parsons won his second Emmy for his great work on Big Bang Theory and Abraham Higginbotham won for Modern Family – he is a writer and producer on that wonderful show. Truthfully, both of these guys were favorites of mine who also became my friends. Couldn’t be prouder of them. I just talked with Jim today. Though, wait a minute, I don’t think I heard my name in the acceptance speech…. hmmm.

What do you think of Gladys? Gladys is either a salt or pepper shaker. She was part of that wonderful package of goodies Vintage Sue sent to me. I am so taken by anything that is tiny. And I love this particular style of figurine with the rosy cheeks, cupid’s bow mouth and vintagey look. I believe Miss Gladys is a maid and it looks as if she just took a visitor’s hat.

This guy was also in the package – another salt or pepper shaker. Love, love this face.

What is it about teeny, tiny, miniature things? They call to me. I have little things like this all over the house. Of course, I have my dollhouse and all the miniatures that go in it, but the little things that I’m talking about today aren’t that kind of miniature. They’re not to scale. They are just wee little treasures that pop out here and there amongst all the ‘big’ things around the house. They are unexpected pleasures. Are you a tiny treasure lover?

Speaking of tiny, I used the macro setting to get this photo yesterday:

He’s spun his web in my rose bush. Amazing.

Have a great Monday.

David and I are crazy about the “Big Bang Theory” ~ we never miss it! Jim Parsons is so very talented and how cool is it that you were his teacher. Wow! Now as far as little things go, you and I share this passion. All of the precious little things just make me smile!

    Lots of love and hugs,

YOU taught JIM PARSONS!?? OMG! I love him! His character cracks me up. Saw him not long ago on (I think Letterman or Ferguson) and enjoyed seeing HIM outside of his character. What a great young man he is!

LOVE the mini’s, too. Your dollhouse is adorable. You are going to have soooo much fun with that.

    Have a sweet day!

Lovely shot of the spider Claudia. I too love tiny things. I have an affinity towards vintage egg cups with animal faces on them. It goes back to childhood when my great-grandmother made soft boiled eggs and had four lovely animal egg cups her mother brought from England. I have one and love it.

Congratulations on your Emmy win, because if they won you won too. We received exciting Emmy news last week. Our son and his crew won a technical Emmy for sound on The Kennedys. We are very proud.

    Have a lovely day,

    Sue

You definitely are a winner too Claudia – after all who would we be without our great teachers of long ago!

If ‘Gladys’ had arrived in my mailbox I would have been in tears – that was my dear mother’s name. Being a Welsh name I always wondered how my mother got it – we are strictly English, ha! ha!

Congratuations to your former students. They should have mentioned you. Where would they be today? You must be so proud of them both. I haven’t seen either show, but don’t watch alot of t.v. Usually only watch some shows because my hubby taped them and we watch them together. I LOVE little things. From my dollhouses to little kids clothes. They are so cute hanging in the stores. So tiny. Have a great day.

Claudia, Here’s a cute use for old shakers….put a wire made to hold a photo into the holes. Then place a photo in the wire:):) Smiles, Susie

How exciting to see your students do well – the best feeling a teacher can have! Awesome that you taught them. And I think your miniatures are fabulous – more and more I like small things – they are so much easier to keep. Thanks for stopping by my blog! You were one of my original blog inspirations! So great to hear from you!

    Blessings,
    Tricia

What lovely little thingies you have there!
And the spider, well I wouldn’t call it lovely, but it is still pretty awesome smack in the middle of his web.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
