Tree Lights and Rain

December 11, 2024 at 8:40 am by Claudia

It’s been quite rainy since Monday. It was so dark this morning that it was almost impossible to get a good Queen for a Day photo. I had to wait longer than usual. You’ll get no complaints from me about the rain – as you know, we desperately need it.

The lights are on the tree. One string wasn’t working, but we still had enough on hand, thank goodness. After we finished, the tree looked like it was leaning to the right, so I kept turning it, with Don giving me updates, until it looked fairly straight. We were busy yesterday, so we didn’t add the decorations, but we will today. It will be a nice rainy day activity. Besides, we rather like seeing just the lights for a while and, true to form, I briefly considered only lights this year. But I think, in the end, we’d regret it, as we have such a nice collection of vintage ornaments.

I have to take my car in tomorrow or Friday as I’m hearing a metallic sound when I brake. It’s probably a brake pad that needs replacing – or a rotor. Crap. If it isn’t one thing, it’s another.

FYI: I don’t know if I mentioned it on the blog – I don’t think I did – but the day after the election, I got two messages. Very clear messages. The first was an image of Dump and “Leon”  in handcuffs. I saw it at least twice that day. I also received a simple message: “They’ll be found out.” And I became very calm and have remained so since November 6th. I still believe Kamala will be inaugurated.

We’ll see.

Queen Imogen.

Queen Madeleine. Taken this morning; getting a good photo took forever, as it’s so dark and rainy out there. Her hair is a bit flyaway, but that’s the norm. She’s French; she has her own style.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

what a beautiful tree! and those lights! i know that having something for a limited time makes it feel extra-special, but i could go for trees and more lights year-round.

and agree about ornaments. i have a dear collection, too.

anyway, great choices. glad you and don have some decorations up.

good wishes on your car brakes.

i have been/am focused on other things (including a squirrels’ version of wwf … lots of wrestling and chasing on the deck every day … sadly, earl does not like to share with burl) and intentionally avoiding news so must ask … i know about “dump”, but who is “leon”? also, good to pay attention to messages and feelings. i don’t have that same feeling about the inauguration. to me it just feels like a very deep, dark, scary mess that may never come to light and will take decades and more patriotism and courage than our elected officials have seemed to show in a long time.

on a happier note, we had a bit of snow last night, enough to cover the deck and bushes, yard, but not stick to the streets. very pretty. maybe it will head your way …?

need to get to other things.

happy wednesday and thursday. stay safe!

Your tree is beautiful and sparkly….looks great now, but I’m sure your vintage ornaments will really make it shine! Good luck with your car, hope it’s an easy, inexpensive fix. Stay warm!

Beautiful tree, Claudia. Beautiful girls in their crowns. Hope you’re right about Kamala. I feel like it’s all a bad movie and it will be over soon. Trump is coming for us, now (Canada). Yikes! Happy tree decorating. Hugs, Elaine

Your tree is a beauty with or without ornaments.
It is snowing again in Michigan. We only got a dusting of snow last night but we’re getting some lake effect snow today. By the weekend it is supposed to warm up and rain. I just want a few snow flurries on Christmas eve and day.
I hope you are right about the election. I would love to see him and his cronies in handcuffs. Time will tell.
    Enjoy your tree

It’s raining cats and dogs here and though we might have snow showers this week, no snow predicted for Christmas. Darn it.

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

Your tree is already gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve had a single year where I didn’t have at least one magazine or coaster or similar under a tree stand leg to get the darned thing straight. At least Lizzie is good enough with the tree that I’ve stopped anchoring each leg with a box of kitty litter and/or wiring it to the wall. The girls are lovely as always! And good luck with the brakes.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
