Still sick. So is Don. This morning I spent my first two hours coughing. Lovely way to start the day.
Anyway, we’re hanging in there. I did a bit too much yesterday, so I’m cutting back today. I do have to vacuum – it’s been way too long. And I have to go back to rehearsal this week – hopefully, not until Thursday or so. What a damn pain in the tush this is.
Egg cup tour continues:
• On the left, an egg cup from Prague. A gift from my husband. Darn it, he’s so sweet.
• Two morning glory egg cups found at the Paris flea market. First of all, morning glories! Secondly, PARIS! I think they’re fairly modern, but I love the design. You can still see the price tag in one of the cups.
• One of my favorite egg cups from a line by Carlton in England. This one was made in 1973. The name of the line is “Walking Ware” and consists of, you guessed it, egg cups with feet and shoes and socks. Some of them have long legs. I think they’re so whimsical and charming.
We have a few more to go and then this year’s tour will be over.
Oh, almost forgot! (Just kidding.)
I’d like you to meet Ella.
Yes, she arrived yesterday all the way from England. Ella is a Ferro Doll – like Harper – and I’ve often mentioned on this blog that I wanted one of her dolls with curly hair. They’re hard to find as Elena is concentrating on a different sculpt lately. I’ve missed out on a few over the past two years, sometimes due to my relative ‘newness’ to Blythe collecting and not being sure about what I wanted and sometimes due to timing. I’ve had a long back-and-forth with Ferro Dolls about it and, though she doesn’t take commissions, I asked her to let me know when another one of these curly-haired girls might be coming up for adoption. But she hasn’t – mostly because, like any true artist, she is expanding her designs and going in a slightly different direction. Long story short, one morning as I scrolled through my Blythe feed, a woman from the Liverpool area mentioned that she was going to let go of some of her dolls and to please let her know if there is one we’d like. I responded with the speed of a cheetah because I knew she had this girl. And somehow I ended up first in line for her.
Like most Ferro girls, she has an intense, slightly fierce look. I love her coloring, which is darker than many of my girls, making the combination of her skin tone and her blondish tousled hair quite striking. Her face-up is beautifully painted.
Harper (my other Ferro) is pleased to meet her sister and I’ll try to get some photos of them together today.
Side note: This is the first time – ever – that I received a doll without any clothes on. Nothing. And in a cardboard box rather than the original wood Ferro box she came in. I remember watching a video of her ‘unboxing’ and she came with a little romper and a hat and shoes and socks in the always beautiful Ferro box.
I was rather shocked when I signed for the package. It was so light in weight that I thought something had gone wrong! Anyway, there are no hard or fast rules, but every new or second-hand doll I’ve ever seen both here and online has arrived wearing something. I was a little miffed, I’ll admit it. But I let it pass because, in the end, I’ve got what I really wanted, which is this beautiful girl, and I’m sick and don’t have much energy. Also, I have plenty of wood Blythe boxes so I really don’t need another one!
I renamed her because ‘Ella’ just kept coming to mind when I looked at her. She already has a new body because she came with a licca body and I don’t like them. My friend Tania calls them ‘noodle legs’ and she’s right. So some of my time yesterday afternoon was spent replacing her licca body with an Obitsu 22.
Too much info I expect, but I’m sick, so give me a pass.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

I hope you both feel better soon.
I remember when Don went to Prague for a PBS project.
Ella reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert, “Eat, Pray, Love.”
Take Care,
Kaye
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Kaye.
Stay safe.
Marilyn Schmuker says
Ella is georgous! I wish I had curls like that.
I love the footed egg cup. My favs always seem to be the most unusual ones.
Whatever you and Don have sounds miserable. Rest and feel better soon.
Take care
Claudia says
Oh, me too! I always wanted curls.
Thanks so much, Marilyn.
Stay safe.
Grace says
Ella has arrived at the right place! H owever uncomfortable the journey, she is looking great now!
Please do take good care of yourselves and be well. much Love
Claudia says
Thank you, Grace!
Stay safe.
jeanie says
Of course you have a pass and she’s adorable! Welcome, Ella! You have a good home and all-season wardrobe awaiting.
The egg cups today are especially wonderful. Each time I try to pick a favorite. This time I can’t!
Here’s hoping that your cruddy flu goes away and fast. Sounds horribly grim. Hang in there.
Claudia says
It is grim. And it just keeps coming.
Thanks, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
Vicki says
Thank you for bringing out the darling egg-cup cozies yesterday!
Ella’s golden-brown eyes are striking. I’ve always thought a blonde with brown eyes is even more beautiful than a brunette with blue eyes.
Hope you feel better by Easter Sunday. Take care.
Claudia says
Her coloring is completely different than that of any of my dolls. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I really love her look.
Stay safe, Vicki.
Deborah says
Ella looks like a girl who knows her own mind! Personally I think it’s a bit rude when a seller is asking for hundreds of dollars for a doll yet can’t see fit to outfit her. But there you go.
Claudia says
Yep.
Stay safe, Deborah.
kathy in iowa says
of course you have a pass (and not just when feeling crummy, but always)! hope you and don see progress in how you’re feeling, feel stronger every day and that you both get 100% better soon. now would be good. :)
welcome, ella! you’ve made it to a wonderful home … and clothes!
most of march is filled with bittersweet days for my family. some days are hard, bitter. other days are easier in their sweetness. all days holding tears, but also lots of smiles, lots of memories and also lots to look forward to (especially thanking God here). hearing the name of your newest girl brings a smile today as ella is the first name of my very spunky maternal grandmother. thank you.
there were a dozen tornadoes in iowa last friday night. more severe weather is expected to get here soon, maybe by 3:00 pm. been working on things, but took a break to check on how you and don and everyone else here are doing. now i need to hustle, get things done, just in case the weather forecast holds accurate.
stay safe, be well, everyone!
kathy
Denise S says
Here on the east coast there were 8 tornadoes on Saturday caused by that same storm system. Kathy, praying that you and everyone in the path of today’s storms will be safe.
Please post again after the storms and let us know you are okay.
kathy in iowa says
thanks very much, denise. prayers (especially for my family) are always appreciated!
hope no one was hurt or worse from those storms, the ones tonight or anytime. stay safe!
enjoyed a couple hours of rain, some lightning and, briefly, small hail tonight (i love, love, love rain … stepped outside, later had a door open to feel it more). the strongest part of the storm was south, went east of us, then a bit north so we were spared damaging weather. feeling bad and praying for everyone affected.
how are you? hope all’s well for you and your family. stay safe in every way!
and thanks again for your prayers!
kathy
Claudia says
Oh my, Kathy. That weather and tornadoes sounds frightening! Please stay safe, my friend.
kathy in iowa says
thanks very much, claudia!
we were spared the worst of it, both last friday and tonight, so doing alright that way. you know i love rain so had a door open to experience it more, breathe it all in. took a video so i can replay it whenever i want (probably the next dry day we have, which will be tomorrow) … haha.
praying for everyone and everything in storms’ paths … and those not impacted at all. also that you and don get to feeling better soon, get over that crud!
thanks again for your good wishes!

Mindy says
I hope both feel better soon. Your new doll is a doll!!! Love that curly hair. Your egg cups today were so unique. Are you looking for anymore?
Claudia says
Not really. Occasionally, if I see something extraordinary, I’ll buy it, but my egg cup cubby is full and I’m happy with what I have.
Stay safe, Mindy.
Elaine in Toronto says
Ella is such a little doll, no pun intended. Everything about her is perfect – the curls, the eyes, the rosy cheeks, her pretty eyebrows, her defiant little expression and her sweet outfit. No wonder you fell in love with her. She will fit right in with her sisters, especially Harper. It was fun to hear of her journey home. My dad used to call what you and Don have, “the crud”. As kids, we didn’t know exactly what “the crud” was but we knew we didn’t want to catch it! Take good care of each other. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
She has little teeth, too!
Yes. It is the crud and it won’t go away! I might have to go in to rehearsal tomorrow, so we’ll see how I get through that.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Kay+Nickel says
Feel better soon. We had a cold for 2 weeks recently. Not fun. The only thing good about being sick is that it makes us grateful for good health.
Claudia says
This one is going on a week for me and definitely two weeks for Don.
Thanks so much, Kay.
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
I know you’ve shown your egg cups before, but I don’t remember Walking Ware….so cute!
Ah, Ella. I kind of figured you would eventually add on to your collection….she’s really cute Claudia. Love the curls.
Hope tomorrow is the day you start feeling better! ;)
Claudia says
I do, too. But right now, I feel pretty crappy and I have to go into the city on Thursday.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
chris K in Wi says
Ella is precious!! Love those curls and that sweet face.
Wish you were both feeling better. Hope that happens really soon.
Watching the special on MSNBC w/ Rachel about the idiot’s arrest. I still don’t feel any great sense of relief, as nothing ever seems to stick to him. ugh. I remember when all of us actually thought we would be dancing in the streets and rid of him years ago….. sigh.
If you have to go in to rehearsal tomorrow, take care!! When does the show open?
Claudia says
I would have been dancing in the street during his arraignment but I simply feel too crappy to execute that little number.
I have to go in on Thursday. The show opens on April 23rd.
Stay safe, Chris.
Roxie says
Oh my, Ella has some serious attitude! I suspect she is much happier now that her journey to her new home is over. (And she has clothes to wear.) No wonder you were looking for a little one with curly hair–she’s amazing. It’s hard not to have favorites, but…
I hope you and Don are feeling better soon.
Claudia says
I know. I am so entranced by her face and her hair, which is incredibly soft by the way!
Thanks, Roxie.
Stay safe.
Judy says
Welcome little Ella! And I hope you feel better very soon. Take care of yourself!
Claudia says
Thank you, Judy! And Ella says hi to you!
Stay safe.
