How is everyone doing?
Since our Christmas is fairly low-key, we’re fine.
We are laying low today. I have some things to do, as does Don, but mostly, we’re going to listen to holiday music, read, eat, and watch It’s a Wonderful Life tonight.
I spent some time trying to get all the girls lined up on the music cabinet in order to take a picture. I was worried one of them would fall off. But I figured it out and here they are:
Sophie, Maeve, Imogen, Olivia, Pippa, and Zoe.
They now live in the den – and they’re still in this position. If I put them upstairs in the office, I’d barely see them. Better here, where I can look at them while I’m writing this blog post.
I’m finishing up a Maigret mystery – Maigret and the Reluctant Witnesses. I find Simenon’s rather short mysteries are perfect when I’m not ready to commit to a long novel. They’re a little apértif.
We watched The Kennedy Center Honors last night and I cried several times. Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler, Berry Gordy – music that I have loved most of my life. Hearing that music, seeing them honored, hearing their stories, was a perfect way to spend an evening. For several years recently, the Honors were not what they used to be. The choices made by the producers resulted in a rather shallow production, instead of a grand salute to talented and brilliant artists who have performed and created and innovated over a lifetime. Some of the honorees were far too young, in my opinion, to have earned an Honor. This time, they got it right. Fingers crossed for the future.
Okay. Time for our second cup of coffee.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

Hello,
Your girls look charming. I think their faces have stories to tell. They do come from all over the world which make what stories they have to tell most intriguing.
I too, enjoyed the Kennedy Honors show last night.
Have a wonderful, peaceful day.

And each girl looks so different – they have their distinct personalities (at least to yours truly.)
Stay safe, Kaye.

I missed the Kennedy Center Honors last night. Thanks for commenting: now I’ll know to look for a replay.
Claudia says
Yes – do that. It’s quite wonderful this year.
Stay safe, Linda!

We are supposed to have a green Christmas this year. I just looked out the window and it’s snowing….fluffy looking flakes falling straight down…just
beautiful!
I missed the Kennedy Center Honors. I have always loved Joni Mitchell’s music.
I know we have some of her albums in the basement. We decided to get a turn table so we can play all the vinyl we have. We want to go through all of them and be able to play them again.
Your girls all look so cute together. Too bad they are too big for the doll houses.
Wishing you and Don a wonderful Christmas and safe and healthy 2022.
Claudia says
Glad you’re getting snow!
Actually, I don’t like dolls in my dollhouses, so it’s just fine.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Marilyn.
Brendab says
Merry Christmas.
Claudia says
The same to you and yours, Brenda!
Stay safe.

I always watch the Kennedy Center Honors. My favorite moment last night was the audience getting to their feet when Stevie Wonder sang.
Merry Christmas to you and Don.
Claudia says
I know! That was wonderful!
Stay safe, Lynda.

The Girls look great perched where they are. I think Olivia looks the most confident! I haven’t heard of the Kennedy Centre Honours so I shall definitely look them up.
Have finished now for Christmas, I could officially retire in early January and claim my state pension (after nearly 50 years worth of contributions!) but I have decided to defer it and carry on working two days a week. I enjoy purchasing library stock as well enabling inter library loans with other libraries throughout the UK and sometimes Denmark.
I have a pile of library books to read including the latest Anthony Horowitz, there’s a lovely wool shop opened not far from my house so I’ll walk up tomorrow and buy wool to knit a hat which will probably be ready for next Christmas!
Just waiting to see what Boris is going to say over the next few days.
Happy Thursday
Claudia says
Well, that’s because I have her eyes forward and not to the side. But she’s pretty gutsy!
Two days a week sounds perfect, Dee Dee. Not too much, but just enough.
I don’t have the latest Horowitz, but it’s on my list!
Stay safe and Merry Christmas!

Kennedy Center was good this year. And the girls are darling! Enjoy Maigret — he’s perfect — and have a wonderful day!
Claudia says
He is indeed perfect. After I’ve had some lunch, I’m going to read a bit more.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Your girls are so adorable. I love how they are all so different. Sweet little family. I missed the Kennedy Center Honors but I’ll try to find it. I’ve been falling asleep so early lately. The holidays are wonderful but also a mixed blessing to me. Today, 12/23 my daughter has been married 15 years but it is also 6 years since I lost my brother and in a few weeks my sweet Charlie left me. So I’m blessed but memories of loved ones lost never leave me. Resting today for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with the family!
Claudia says
Yes, I understand your feelings. Too close to when you lost your brother and Charlie. The end of October starts that period six years ago when I lost my father, and a few months later, Scout. It’s always there, isn’t it?
Much love to you, Linda.
Stay safe.

I was trying not to pick a favorite but I have to say, seeing them all in a row, that Pippa captured me. Maybe it’s being able to see more of her face or the fact that she doesn’t want her bangs in her eyes. But whatever, she’s mine.
I’ll email you a YouTube link tomorrow. We actually got to sing a live performance! Albeit with masks. But the music is really pretty and I think you might enjoy it.
Merry Christmas to you and Don. I’m really glad to have contact with the girl that got me through high school. I will forever be grateful.
Claudia says
Same here, my dear friend. We’ve been through so much together and I treasure all those memories. Much love to you and Keith this holiday season.

Quiet Christmas here in Nevada City, Ca too. Not due to Covid so much as weather. After the hottest summer ever and fires everywhere. We are going to get hit with a “SnowBomb”, as some are calling it. Day after day of snow….looks like 10 days straight. Our families aren’t coming, to dangerous to drive down from the mountains. We will celebrate when the weather clears. If Covid has taught us anything it is to go with the flow. Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.
Claudia says
That’s a lot of snow, Janet! Stay safe, my friend.
Merry Christmas!

We, too, will be enjoying a green Christmas this year. It is fine with me. We know we will get more than enough snow in the months to come so it is nice to not have to worry about the kids traveling out here for the day, even though it is only a 40 min drive. Bad roads drive me absolutely crazy. Tis the season.
The girls look adorable. Their first Christmas at MHC. How fun! Enjoy your days and take care.
Claudia says
We’re supposed to get freezing rain tonight, so I hope everyone gets home safely!
Stay safe, Chris.

missed the kennedy center honors program, but your mention of it brings fond memories of watching those programs with my mother (thank you).
such sweet expressions and cute clothes those girls have. and their names, too. glad you found a good place for them.
also glad you are ready, can take it easy and enjoy Christmas.
we will have some holiday treats here, watch “it’s a wonderful life” and definitely keep things low-key (how i like everything). finally finished a gift this morning; worried that i’d damaged my mother’s sewing machine … but i didn’t … and am glad and grateful about that. and i started reading a book again … fiction even! :)
hope everyone here has a blessed Christmas.

Your dolls are so unique. I’ve never seen anything like them—so much personality.
I was anxious to watch the Kennedy Honors to see Joni Mitchell honored. I am disappointed by Bette Midler’s remarks this week about my home state of WV, so I skipped over her. Merry Christmas!
