Two of My Favorite Things

October 29, 2008 at 12:52 pm by Claudia

Thought I’d share two of my favorite things. This little lamp is a treasure that my husband and I found several years ago at an antique shop. We fell in love with the captivating smiles on the man and woman. They are so happy that one can’t resist them. Are they on their way home from the market? Have they just picked those flowers? I don’t know…I only know that they are irresistible.

When we purchased this little lamp, it came with a small black shade lined with gold foil. After a while I realized that the lamp always seemed to be very hot when it was on and that it was due to the shade. I always wanted a red shade, but I couldn’t find one and made do with a white one. The other day I was in the soon-to-be-departed Linens ‘N Things and there it was – a perfect red shade.

This syrup pitcher was my great-grandmother’s. She lived in Orillia, Ontario on a farm (An earlier post showed the farmhouse as painted by my great-aunt.) My grandmother always had this pitcher in her china cabinet; it was passed on to my Mom and she, knowing that I loved it, gave it to me. The lid on the pitcher is pewter.

I’ve put some wild turkey feathers in it that we found on our front lawn on a couple of different occasions. The feathers would appear mysteriously overnight. What were those turkeys doing? Fighting? Having a camp-out? Gossiping? We don’t know, but it is certainly intriguing.

More later….

Your lamp is charming, Claudia, and I love the pitcher too. How wonderful those feathers are! This time of year especially.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
